I actually got scared watching this one. I really enjoyed this. A subtle underlining love story but nothing to scare away most guys. I rate this one high on all the scare except value, I can't see me watching it over and over again, maybe once a year. Music rocked, souds strangely like the music out of the twilight shows. But I enjoyed to magic and cases they go on in this. I am a big fan of some shonjo and some more kind of manly ones, but I recommend this one to anyone. The first couple of cases are ice breakers for the storyline but once you get into the later cases I was non stop.

This is a great anime. The word “underdog” doesn't even seem to justify the level of neglect or oversight this series has received or is it better said, the degree of attention this series has NOT received from the anime mass media outlets....and partly this is understandable because there ARE bigger and better animes out there, BUT STILL! I mean, I subscribe to a lot of the anime magazines, not to mention, I visit many of the anime news sites and I don't remember this show getting too much coverage.....if any at all. Which is a shame because this a very cool show that's not only funny and intriguing but has a very cute cast of characters and puts considerably unique spin on it's take on both the Horror and Mystery genres.

A priestess, a monk, an exorcist, a medium, a girl with latent abilities and two researchers with unspecified talents investigate psychic phenomena. This show delivers exactly what it promises and yet it still seems to be lacking something. The main problem with Ghost Hunt is that while it is enjoyable, it’s not very memorable. Nothing about it really stood out; it was just kind of average.

Ghost Hunt is a pretty difficult anime to review. It's one of those shows where the whole is so much greater than the sum of its parts. Ghost Hunt doesn't have groundbreaking animation, but it is still crisp, clean, and suitable for the material, it isn't stand-alone-spectacular. The story is different, it isn't ongoing. The anime is broken up in to several different story arcs, each arc lasting about 3 - 4 episodes. Character development builds a bit with each arc, it is done well, but isn't the center focus.

The story is pretty true to the title, Ghost Hunt is about, well, ghost hunting (story arcs cover different branches of paranormal activities and psychology). The narrator, Taniyama Mai, is a bubbly high school freshman who accidentally becomes involved with a narcisstic paranormal researcher and his strange circle of friends (an Australian priest, a miko, a Buddhist monk, a medium, and a Chinese mystic) helping Shibuya Psychic Research. Ghost Hunt is a bit like the show Mushishi, just a little less serious.

Ghost Hunt, over all, is a FANTASATIC show if you know what to look for. At its core, it is almost a show about humanity, the story arcs can be sad and involving, but exciting at the same time (sadly, the first story arc is pretty unimpressive, and to get in to the show, you really need to watch more than the first 3 episodes). I wasn't expecting much at the beginning of the show, but the episodes fly by very enjoyably. The set-up is very nice, and you never feel like you are dying to get through a filler episode and back to the plot.

Highly recommended, especially for fans of mystery or slice-of-life anime.

As someone said below, Ghost Hunter is an entertaining show to watch. It doesn't have a deep storyline, each episode unfolds the mystery of events that happen on the jobs that the characters do and somethings kind of send chills up your spine.

On the animation: The character design is pretty average. Some of the character's designs don't really see to fit the character themselves. When they show the ghosts, spirits and events, it can be kind of eerie so for me that was actually a positive. I'll rate the animation with the sound since the sound kind of tied in with some of the creepyness that the animation gave. I wasn't too big on the OP but I do like the ED.

Story: Basically a girl, who I believe is a freshmen told some ghost stories in an old abandoned school building. Some folks come to help exorcise the building and these folks eventually band together to become this mystery solving poltergeist hunting team. It just basically shows their different cases in about 3 - 4 episodes per case. Nothing with romance, or a lot of action or a ground breaking storyline. Just a group of people solving problems and fighting off the spirits.

Characters: They were a bit odd. Some of the character's personalities didn't really match their profession so it was interesting to see them go from Monk/Priest/Psychic to regular ole ever day working people.

Value Enjoyment: I actually like this anime because it's just something to watch. It's a good break after watching romance after romance after action after action after confusing this, confusing that. This is more of a look into paranormal life and the people who deal with it so if you want to watch something that you can think about..maybe even try and solve with the team while being pretty relaxed and sometimes freaked out then I would recommend this.

Ghosts, phenomena and thoughts metamorphosing into physical energy. Do they really exist?

Ghost Hunt is one of those shows, which are, well, fun to watch. Not necessarily too intelligent, complex or profound, yet entertaining nonetheless.

If you are interested in ghosts and other phenomena and you want to watch something smarter than "Ghostbusters", then this show is your candy. Don't expect anything too serious or complex though. Now that I think about it, X-files is like a mature, American version of this show.

Ghost Hunt is basically X-files for Japanese horror stories in the sense that the main 'Ghost Hunter' tries to tackle and explain the phenomenon through the scientific method of observation, hypothesis, experimentation, and conclusion. There are approximately 5-6 story arcs, with each arc focusing on a different case.

In general, the story arcs are quite interesting. Although the story pacing may be a bit slow at times, in the end this anime feels quite satisfactory. If you have seen Mushishi before, Ghost Hunt would probably be the most similar to its kind. Both are very similar in the sense that there is some sort of phenomenon that needs investigating and they use similar phenomenon to battle it. However, unlike Mushishi, Ghost Hunt does not possess the same type of surreal natural feeling. Rather, it is another approach to Japanese Ghost stories.

The character casts consists of 1) main Ghost hunter Naru 2) his assistant Lin 3) a naive girl who gets caught up in everything and ends up tagging along Mai 4) a priest, a monk, a spirit medium, and a miko 5) later on, they put in a commoner male. Naru and Lin are both shrouded by mystery. Both speak very little, and yet they possess great ability to 'hunt ghosts' through various supernatural abilities such as exorcism, mantra, etc. All throughout the anime, one can't help but to ask oneself: do they possess abilities of their own? Mai, as well, has some sort of latent power within her that slowly develops over the various arcs. Character development is mainly surrounding those 3 characters. Character chemistry is somewhat plain and unimpressive, but allows for decent interaction.

Overall, Ghost Hunt's main appeal is in the subject matter and how it chooses to approach it. The story and characters themselves aren't that impressive. However, I was oddly fascinated by each episode as each episode brought about a new surprise. I enjoyed watching this anime mostly for its novelty, and for the tense scary moments. A good watch for those who enjoy the X-Files's approach towards the supernatural

Ghost Hunt was one of the few animes that I didn't have much expectations for in the beginning, but surprised me in how engaging it was from start to end. In fact I thought that it would only be some random 'non-scary' shoujo-ish anime, based on previous experience on similar looking animes. Of course I was wrong on judging it by first glance

Out of the shibuya psychic research office a ghost hunter, a diviner, a part time assistant work together with a medium, a monk, a priestess, and a christian exorcist to solve mysteries of the paranormal. It isn't horror and it isn't scary. It's more like detective stories / whodunnits of the supernatural. It's also excellent! The characters aren't exactly deep but very likable. The whole series is light, good entertainment and can be funny at times. Good Animation and Sound help a lot. Before I knew it I went through 22 episodes - just one after the other and am now hoping to see more soon. I can imagine myself watching the whole series again on a future weekend.

Ghost Hunt is a wonderfully executed anime series. To be honest, the first three episodes (for myself, anyways) were just 'okay.' However, after that, the show really picks up. I highly recommend giving it a watch! It's one of the few gems out there.

normally i dont like mystery or horror anime but ghost hunt really surprised me. it is not the usual anime and it has a diffferent mood from other anime of its genre. mostly it is horror without blood though the last story was a bit bloody. just lit the light in your room and enjoy a subtly horror anime with lots of chilling scenes.
the characters are all lovely except that you dont really know much about them. their backgrounds keep hidden until now but that doesnt kill any of the enjoyment. everyone has his own stereotypes what is very funny to see though it is not quite realistic how they behave in cruel situations. overall i like ghost hunt very much and i can recommend this to everyone who likes mysterious anime yet is not interested in bloody scenes with lots of monsters. and i think ghost hunt is a bit underrated. watch it and build your own opinion.

I've watched to episode 18, and I surely will continue watching it. It's really good. Not very scary though, more mysterious. It's also got humour in it, and a little romance. One of my favorites so far.

Viewed fansub version up to ep 3

Animation : up to the level of a fair 2006 anime. Objects are decently drawn, actions are well put n motion. I regret that the characters' faces are a bit all alike as it is often the case in typical japanese anime.

Sound : nothing outstanding but nothing impeding.

Story : a simple story in a school life context, but a good drama build up. interesting developments, a good fist impression.

Character : very fair. Characters have a mind of their own, their priorities, their way of thinking and their weaknesses. Very interesting interactions. some of them are pretty bold. I hope we can encounter more of those further down the story

Value : should be fair although too early to tell

Enjoyment : very fair. I am looking forward following eps with much anticipation

in summary, a mix of detective, fantastic and school life anime of a good quality that definitely deserves a try of the first episode. easy to watch and no need to decipher the scenario

ghost hunt is about an office called shibuya psychic research. shibuya is a strange good-looking guy that is pretty much likd by the girls. one day may a high school student accidentally hurts shibuyas assistant. so shibuya makes her to be his assistant. then one person after another happens to join and they talk about ghosts and their presences. a classmate of may seems to need attention and pretends to be attacked by ghosts but none really believes her.

after all it looks quite promising and i hope the story develops further and it wont become a love story. it has some funny moment and a lot of characters introduced in the first epsiode. i hope they are not gonna leave some of the characters just superficially introduced otherwise it is nothing but average.
