| First, a note: I have never watched any of the prior works by the author of this.
Kuu is a girl who goes to school in a zone full of schools (think Toaru Majutsu no Index). Suddenly, a guy named Kyoshiro, with a striking resemblance to the prince in her dreams, comes and tells her "let's go, together."
This starts out as a slice of life romance but soon breaks out of the slice of life part. Soon mechs appear and untold destruction ensues. Within this, we meet about half a dozen or so supporting characters (all of them remarkably cute as Magmaburning notes) whom all have complex relationships with each other.
This series took me on a ride which I ended up chaining after the halfway point. If you want a romantic based series with a bit of shojoness and are willing to deal with quite a few large plot holes and some really cliché themes such as princes and princesses, then this is for you. I don't know who classified this as a Shonen on Wikipedia but this is way closer to Shojo than Shonen.

| Many of those who watched Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora related this to another anime, Kannazuki no Miko? Sadly, i have never watched that anime before, but from the information i gather, Kannazuki no Miko is a previous work of the same creator of Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora and it even refers to Kannazuki no Miko...
Why is it that I decided to Watch Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora? Because the OP theme was a nice song sung by CooRie? Because it was a very new anime at that time? Because it had really nice animation and beautiful characters? Because the story looked Interesting?
However, Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora would disappoint you immediately if you had formed any expectations of this anime...
It Starts Off with Shiratori Kuu talking about her life, and how she feels like an empty shell, waiting for her "prince" to come and fill her empty shell. Is this supposed to be a Shonen anime? I seriously doubt it, because the first episode would probably bore a normal guy to death... & I was thinking, even if Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora was a Shojo anime, It's still pretty slow and moving at a pretty slow pace...
Every 5 seconds, you'll hear Kuu's voice talking to herself, commenting about everything that's going on, her every single thought, her every single feeling. It would be a good thing if you can "connect" with her, which I Could. But If you can't, which i can definitely imagine some people who are definitely unable to grasp onto Kuu's Point of View, it would Definitely Bore you, Annoy you, Turn you Off, & Just Waste your time...
Episodes pass, more is explained, more characters are introduced, but not exactly developed. Only the 3 main characters, Kuu, Kyoshiro and sometimes Setsuna are developed. But the rest were just extra characters which were there to only make the story seem complete. I suppose Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora was suppose to be the kind of anime which people call "mecha yuri"? with a lot of yuri (girl on girl) actions and kissing and touching and feelings...
I'm not very into yuri, but i could still somehow tolerate it. There were many plotholes along the way, many unexplained stories that could have been explained if given the time to, & mechas fighting for a seemingly never achievable victory. It might have started off with seemingly some potential... but the episodes would feel dragging and bore most people to death, probably. However, i didn't think it was thaaat bad? but i didn't think it was good either? I was just neutral. Kuu's constant talking to the viewer will constantly bring you back into the anime to make you understand how she's feeling, but the constant confusion and events that go on will just pass you by. By the end of the series, I Seriously don't remember what the heck happened in all those middle episodes?! (O_O)"""
However, For SOME REASON, FOR SOME STRANGE REASON, The Ending Was GooD?! Not that it was the best ending in the whole world... But for an anime which had a lot of events going on throughout the series that doesn't stick in my mind, acting just like a time-passer... I Seriously Don't know, HOW COULD THE ENDING BE SOOO Strangely GOOD THAT IT COULD SQUEEZE Some TEARs Out of ME?! The First time I watched Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora, I Cried Quite a Bit In the Last Episode. The Second time I watched it, I Still shed a few tears?! T_T
Until Now, I Still Seriously Don't understand why is it that I Felt Sad and Could cry for the Final Episode when the Episodes in the middle were like nothing happened? Was it because of the attachment that I had subconsciously grew onto Kuu? Then was that the purpose of Kuu's constant talking to herself/to the viewers? To subconsciously make the viewers understand Kuu's feelings and grow attached to her, So that the Final Climax Episode would make the viewer Shed Tears despite the dragging middle episodes?!
I don't know what the purpose of Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora is... But that is how i felt about this anime. The mecha action in the middle would temporarily interest you, after All, the Animation Is from 2007... Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora is an anime that talks about Beauty. & Of course, if an anime is going to talk about beauty, It NEEDS Beauty. & That's definitely what it has. Beautiful Characters, Beautiful Mechas, Beautiful Sceneries, Beautiful Memories... Animation is Tops, & I'm guessing the production studios probably had put quite some effort into making this anime look beautiful...
The Sounds? I Really Loved the OP theme which was sung by CooRie... It's a Very Nice Song... & The ED Theme is a Good Song as well, but not as good as the OP theme. However, it's still great, and the OST throughout the anime episodes fit the mood nicely. The Seiyuus Did their Jobs Really Well. However, sometimes the constant crying and screaming would have seemed unnatural, But THen Again, The Seiyuus Did a Really Good Job when they needed to. Shiratori Kuu's Seiyuu DEFINITELY Did a Very Well Done Job... Her Innocent Voice which can contain So Many emotions... Her Seiyuu is Really GREAT~! the Other Seiyuus Also did a pretty good job too. So definitely Good stuff for animation and sounds...
However, an Anime really comes down to its story and its characters. With a story that is sooo uninteresting in the middle, but surprised me at the end by being able to make me cry. The attachment I had grown onto the 3 main characters, but all the other characters weren't developed much or nothing at all. Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora had disappointed in these aspects.
However, Overall, I don't know what comments I should make out of this anime. Is it Good? Is it Bad? I really don't know what to say. It Has Beautiful Characters, Beautiful Animation, Good Songs, Good Seiyuus, but a strange story which the events won't stick in your head, and characters that aren't developed and explored enough. Overall, it's pretty hard to comment, and to judge whether you will enjoy Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora or not...
As it's an Anime that would Leave all sorts of feelings in its viewers, whether its viewers will love it? hate it? or think it's just so-so.
I thought Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora was a pretty disappointing anime, but the characters of Kuu, Kyoshiro and Setsuna, and the relationship between them made this anime more bearable. & the ending that surprisingly could squeeze tears out of me... T_T so Overall, I have to say Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora is a Very Strange Anime, and probably, one of the hardest animes to review and comment...
You could probably be able to get some enjoyment from Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora from time to time... But from time to time, it probably might bore you a lot as well...
Sooo... After a second rewatch, I doubt I'll ever watch Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora again, maybe for the beautiful characters... otherwise no...

| Kyoshiro to Towo no Sora is sort of like a sequel to Kannazuki no Miko, but again it's kind of like a different story.
Animations are outstanding. The character models look really pretty. All the girls are super cute and all the guys in the anime are somewhat handsome. Like that didn't really bother me, but it made me feel like their world is just too perfect.
BGM was okayish, you can hear orchestra music in the background. I thought that was really nice, but the battle background music was really plain and just doesn't compare to the background music of the romance scenese. Voice acting does a good job, not a super job, and not a horrible one either. But it still works and it's still effective. OP sets the mood as a romance genre, while the OP video shows that it's going to involve some mecha action. ED is a slow song that shows more of a romance side to the anime.
Story is kinda of decent. Wait. I shouldn't lie. It's really bad. It's about Absolute Angels and how they're really strong and that they can destroy the world. I didn't really care about the saving the world plot. What I really cared about were the relationships with the characters. (With all of the beautiful characters that this anime has) The romance is really tricky in this anime and there are many plot twists as well. But the negative side is that the story seems kind of slow at moments. Sometimes the drama feels kinda fake and "plastic?" Does that even make sense?
Characters are all pretty, but what about their personalities? Kuu who is the main character describes herself as boring and unimportant. So, you have a girl that doesn't have that much confidence in herself. I really liked Kuu for some reason. Maybe she was really pretty or maybe it was because she was a pretty good main character. But there is one thing about Kuu that got me annoyed. She has a habit of saying "Dear Prince" every five minutes. >_<. It was so annoying. I remember one episode when she said that line about a bazillion times. But she gets better after the first few episode of saying that over and over again. Characters are fun to look at, but a pain to watch.
Kyoshiro is the main male character and he looks like a prince. Well that's what Kuu describes him as. Kyoshiro is a person that wants to rid the world of Absolute Angels, because of his brother or something like that. Kuu has a habit of saying "Dear Prince" and that is almost as annoying as how many times Kyoshiro mentions his brother and how much he looks up to him. But overall I like Kyoshiro at the end and I hated him at the beginning of the anime. So, I guess he goes through some character development. Then we have Setsuna. Setsuna might be the prettiest girl I have ever seen in an anime. But she is almost lifeless at the beginning. She has no emotions and she is an Absolute Angel. I felt kind of bad for her, because she was being used by Kyoshiro to hunt other Absolute Angels and Kyoshiro doesn't treat her that nice at the beginning of the anime. Setsuna is another character I liked and maybe she was my favorite character in this whole cast.
The side characters are wonderful (to look at) and some of the characters are from Kannazuki no Miko. So, that will make fans of the old one happy. The show had wonderful characters. (And they are so pretty. Sorry, that I keep on saying that, but it's true. >_<)
Kyoshiro is a mediocre watch for people who have seen Kannazuki no Miko. And if you haven't seen Kannazuki no Miko, Kyoshirou to Towa no Sora will give you no enjoyment at all. Unless, somehow you really admire the character designs like crazy.

| Back when I reviewed Kannazuki no Miko, I pretty much only raved about Chikane, the dark yuri-lover of the series. Now emerges Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora which has very similar elements to Kannazuki but no decent Chikane. And as I guessed, it all goes down the drain. When there isn't Chikane to pull the series out of the swamp which the ridiculous story and characters create, the result is a waste of time.
The story tells about Absolute Angels, ultimate weapons created by a young, ambitious scientist. They take shape of humans and need someone to provide them with mana, the source of energy for their power. Surprisingly, the exchange of mana happens through putting your lips together. That's a kiss for those don't have enough imagination. Well, there was an accident and the angels are now free around the world. Or not. Actually they all hang around some high schools and some students there are involved with these angels. Thus, we have some teenage romance and some mecha fighting with the angels (they have this kind of materializing mecha equipment).
The main character of the show is Kuu, a normal student at one of the high schools. She dreams about her prince, a distant memory of a red haired, handsome boy. Enter Ayanokouji, a horse-riding exchange student, who has one of the Angels as his companion. Well, that's not too impressive but then he has a horse, which he uses as transportation in critical situation. That _was_ cool when Chikane did it in Kannazuki, but when Ayanokouji does the same, it's just ridiculous. He also has some issues with his deceased brother, who was the scientist developing Absolute Angels. And looks exactly like Kuu's prince. What a coincidence! Anyway, the characters aren't interesting at all. Kuu is just repeating "my prince this and that" all the time and her personality hasn't even got edge to cut bread. She ends up falling in love Ayankouji and most of the time we follow how their awkward relationship develops. And it's bloody too awkward. For all the feelings the characters seem to have, their chemistry is close to Absolute Zero. There should be high tension because Ayanokouji's angels happens to be a cute girl, who for some reason or other is totally devoted to him and clearly is in love too. But no tension there, she's mostly being Kuu's best friend and all, because she needs to serve Ayanokouji and he would be unhappy if something happened to Kuu. I was pulling my hair out at some points because of this washed-out triangle drama. These characters are just too whiny and unsure to be likeable.
There other characters too, but there's this feeling of detachment from all of them. Who are they? What are their motives? Why on Earth is that one Angel a little cat girl? There isn't one character in the series I could relate or even enjoy at any level. The story is too full of far-out twists that I could take their development in any meaningful way. This is quite fatal because the series relies on the melodramatic and slowly moving romances and love between the characters to keep it alive. Honestly, the only thing I was remotely interested in was the girl-on-girl love that comes in from time to time. There are two characters similar to Chikane and Himeko of Kannazuki, but they didn't get enough time together to help the rest of the series. The unsurprisingly regular romance between Kuu and Ayanokouji is no replacement to that level of passion.
The show is animated well enough, although the the fighting could have been better. The character designs are similar to Kannazuki and the girls look cute and boys handsome. There are many scenes that look very beautiful because of good lighting and backgrounds. The opening and ending songs aren't particularly interesting. I was hoping for more KOTOKO's songs as in Kannazuki. Background music serves it point trying to bring some passion to the flat mood.
There isn't much reason to watch Kyoshiro. It is a weird combination of shounen and shoujo elements that series like Vision of Escaflowne or Mai Hime have already done in much more pleasant and effective way. I didn't feel anything but frustration and the smell of cheese watching this.
