I have never seen Pani Poni Dash, but if you're looking for something similar, try this rehash using Akamatsu's huge harem of characters in his most epic yet offering of Mahou Sensei Negima. Of course, if you're looking for an anime adaption of the manga, STOP: this is NOT a reiteration of the manga story NOR a remake of the original (shitty, especially the animation) adaption. At its core, Negima!? is a comedy in a weird style with heavy Japanese taintings. Whether its SHAFT's infamous chalkboard miscellaneous references or a metal pan being dropped on anyone's head, you will probably enjoy this if only for the lovable characters and their (stereotypical, often narrow and flat) personalities and talents. While I don't consider the Love Hina adaption to be a flop, Akamatsu apparently loves licensing monies, and he will do it again in his next project when another anime adaption will fail for the majority of manga readers.

What I liked about it: the minor laughs involving the characters doing whatever the hell SHAFT wants them to do. For example, Konoka and Setsuna's relationship is improved with the application of excessively cute fanservice (also, the summer OVA and the last episode which nearly KILLED me). The expansion of the Baka Rangers was certainly entertaining in the beginning, and some traits were better fleshed out (or... the manga never showed much of them so here they are!) like always-smiling Chizuru and the ever annoying Fumika twins.

What I despise: Almost everything else. Everyone suddenly gets stuck in another world by this "dark" crystal yet 95% of the episodes were devoted to random inanity; many episodes were devoted to "flesh out" (if you can call it that) the characters and show their daily "funny" (if you can call it that) way of life. The running puns and gags get stale very quickly, and so does SHAFT's random references unless you are devoted to analyze each one. The magic has also been downgraded, with the pactio system being heavily underused because of all the Suka cards shittiness (the Armor cards were amazing, if only they showed more of them); Negi now takes a whole minute to conjure a spell because pronouncing each Latin phrase is time consuming and not at all good by a Japanese voice actress. I have a whole lot of other stuff to rant about but that would spoil you the entire series.

And its not a straight-from-manga adaption. Fuck you SHAFT.

Oh, and the animation was very good in the first three episodes (Armor card Asuna, awesome Eva, initial impressions of Negi's spellcasting), then suddenly everything went slice-of-life-ish and the quality dropped. The colors were still good, the character designs were maintained, but overall there was barely any action or "WOW" for the remainder of the series. The only saving grace for Sound was the employment of over 30 voice actresses. Otherwise, the OP is sang many different times by all the girls and gets extremely. fucking. annoying. fuck. And a whole lot of other bad stuff appears.

I will now proceed to reread the manga when I have the time, like when I reread Dragon Ball.

This is the spinoff of the original Negima!
This one was had less fanservice than the previous one but better animations. This show looked lied it was gonna be the best anime fo 2006 but was not due to lack of story after episode 7 to episode 22.

Negima!? makes a stunning comeback with a darker side to both the anime and manga by Ken Akamatsu. With the same array of characters and pactios moving at an even faster pace we could be onto a winner here.
Wether its faithfull to the manga or not its still fun.
(Episode 1-8)

Okay, i know Akamatsu really enjoys his revamping of his series from the Manga-Anime conversion, but this spin off is really something. It's nice that they decided to revamp the animation (Which was quite the dying cause in the first series) but its the inconsistensies that make the big difference once again.

All that you've grown to love through the manga has just been tossed into a warp portal and has returned as something else
