Rozen maiden ouberture discribes the past of the Dolls, its best to first see Rozen maiden, so that you have a bit more knowledge about the characters before watching this. that way itll make a bit more sense.

Rozen Maiden Overture is a special set of two episodes which take place sometime between the fifth and sixth episode of the Traumend Series. In this Jun learns why there is so much animosity in between Shinku and Suigin Tou, and their history. While the first half of the first episode is set in the present, the rest of the OVA is set in late 19th century England where the Alice Game was continuing in between Shinku and the other dolls.

Rozen Maiden Overture tells the heartfelt melodramatic past story of what things were like before all the Rozen Maidens met Jun. It basically tells the story of the 7 Rozen Maidens, and how Suigintou met everyone, how she became dark hearted, and different.

I liked OVERTURE because its animation was splendid. The dolls are more vivid in color (more gorgeous colors), and the action scenes are quite amazing. I enjoyed all the battle moves and they were quite fluid and colorful

Since this only consists of two episodes, the story focuses more on the drama and less on the familiar fun in the Rozen Maiden series (which is GOOD). We get to see the dark side of the dolls, as they place the Alice Game. However, it's kind of sad that we don't have a little balance opposing this dramatic piece. As a result, I don't recommend this for those not familiar with Rozen Maiden first season.

I enjoyed OVERTURE because I loved the doll designs and seeing them in full blown animation was breath taking.

After so many months I get in touch again with that anime. Such titles are not so easily forgotten fortunately.

Only 2 episodes long....It would be better to make a third season. I do not really see any point of doing that OVA since it is too short to be liked. The direction is OK, animation and sound as well but I felt I had seen this before in the first and the second season. Some story elements were added but in the end I wasnt left with comprehending anything more from the story. And the way Suigintou's character changes....This is the millionth time I see such change in anime. Really.

For the other dolls there's hardly any time devoted (to my dissapointment). Better watch this straight after season two.

A nice addition to the Rozen Maiden franchise. If this is a quality precursor for the third season, I think that season will be the best.

A long time since i reviewed an anime, but oh well, here goes. Rozen Maiden ouberture is a 2-part OVA extra on top of the previous two series. The basis of this little thing is to add the relevant and somewhat interesting background behind Shinku and Suigintou (as well as detailing what happened in the previous battle)

For a 2 part OVA it successfuly combined two dolls' development in a short and easy bite into what they were like before the series started and its success is portrayed in the non-comedy like setting that the OVA holds.

Unlike previous series, the comedy isn't important, nor is the action, but the gothic nature of the series is shown here to a great degree which helps move this OVA along.

As I don't go into spoilers, let's say that the development between Shinku and Suigintou is great and the hatred between the two is justified to an extent. It's really quite remarkable that despite two series that never really goes anywhere (especially second season), the whole Rozen Maiden universe is still interesting and it's constantly drawing me in despite it padding abit.

With that, the series is going along just nicely, this OVA lacks the comedy or action as previous series, but a huge amount of interesting character development between the protagonist and antagonist makes this worth while.

Overall 8/10
Grade: B+

This is a lot better than S1 and 2 combines and it really is better. This not only has all the best story compressed in 1 episode, but makes full use of all the time. In S2 there 3.4 was junk without any decent story line but this really is good. The animation is better, darker.

Wow. Caution: tragedy ahead; get tissues.

While OVAs usually milk the series for all it's worth, this one doesn't have that as it's main purpose; Rozen Maiden: Ouverture truly captures the emotions and anger that exists in the conflict between Suigintou and Shinku while retaining the energy of the original series and the brilliant battle scenes. It doesn't matter who's side you are on: your love for your favourite doll will grow even more after this must-watch OVA for all Rozen Maiden fans.

Ouverture takes place sometime between episodes 6 to 8 of Traumend - dolls aren't dead yet and the enemies haven't been exterminated. Most of the OVA takes place sometime in Industrial London (probably the first/second awakening since some of the dolls haven't met each other yet) as the history lesson Jun is receiving. It is then that Shinku meets, for the first time, with Souseiseki and Suigintou in the full swing of the Alice Game. Shinku's personality is familiar, but at the same time is not; Suigintou is waaay off course from what you are used to, but she is easy to sympathize with. With this set up, a short story brings about a heart-tearing tragedy and introduces a few more mysteries to ponder about. Because this is a prelude, you'll know what happen, but it's still sad to see it play out in perfect drama accompanied by mood-downing music and dark-toned backgrounds. The only problem? It's two episodes long and you'll long for more.

Cheers to a third season, and pray they use more manga material.
