| Hitohira is a cute anime lacking substance. Overall, Hitohira had an intriguing plot design, decent character molds, and occasionally some eye-catching cute animation, but seemingly with all the potential to be a great school life anime fell way short due to an uninteresting plot progression. The story fell way short of expectations and dragged down many elements of the anime since the focal point of the anime revolved too much around the predictable main character, Mugi, and the below average plot.
The characters in Hitohira are okay. Some of them showed promise, but the lack of substance really took away and made none of the characters very memorable or interesting.
Hitohira showed that all parts of anime in a way are mutually intertwined. The plot was just not that good, and just enough to drag down many promising elements of the anime.
Depending on how much you like the school life genre, one might be forgiving enough of the anime to watch the plot, although, there are better school-life counterparts which do a better job. While I probably would not recommend an anime, it is quite unique. Overall, it wasn't 'bad', it just does not give much of an impression.

| Not bad. Not excellent, but a warm series that touches your heart. Hitohira was a show that aired in Spring 2007, but didn't catch on to me until Spring 2008. I should've watched it while it aired, but I didn't. At least I still watched it in the end.
The animations are fairly good, sometimes there are really loose character designs, like you might see awkward hands or weirdly shaped hair at some moments, but overall it's not that bad. The character designs are sort of plain and it's just like every other romance drama show out there. Backgrounds are nice with those constant leaves blowing in the background. Note that there are quite a few flashbacks in this show.
The voice acting is fine and Mugi does sound like someone who is really shy. The rest of the cast is fairly good and if they were bad then I would question why are they in a drama club? Background music was okayish at best and the OP/ED song were fine. I did listen to them a few times, but then they wore out.
The story is about a girl named Mugi who is shy and can't even talk to people with being afraid of what people think about her. Somehow she joins the drama club and there she might forget all about her shyness and branch out to the world. This is a romance show done right. It doesn't fall into the usual romance in which it's so stereotypical. The only problem I felt with this show was the constant flashbacks. In which I'm guessing they didn't have enough content for twelve episodes, so they kept things nice and slow and added some flashbacks to take some of our time.
Mugi is a fine character and we can really see her character develop through the anime. Sometimes she's annoying, actually she's really annoying at the beginning, but she gets kind of less annoying near the end. "I can't do it." That's something Mugi says a lot in this show. The drama club society had some really good characters and I found them either funny or serious at times.
Hitohira was a sleeping hit. If you're into romance shows then I would say give Hitohira a look. I accidentally stumbled upon this show and I found it to be entertaining.

| Hitohira is about the transformation of the girl Mugi from being too shy to even introduce herself in class, to becoming an actress in the drama club. The strong point of the story is character development. I was frustrated and angry about Mugi falling over and over again, even though she's given lots of encouragement and advice. Mugi, is a character that many people can relate to. Her issues are realistic despite the seemingly extreme weaknesses she suffers from. She lacks self-confidence, she doesn't have a clear goal in life, she's always soft-spoken and tends to stammer. In other word, she's pathetic.
The story, though focussing on Mugi's transformation, also tells touching side stories of other characters to support Mugo's development. There's Nono's stubbornness to keep acting despite almost losing her voice, Nono's friend who beats herself up for inviting Nono into the drama club, Kanna's love for Takeshi, Kayo's importance in Mugi's life, Kai's determination to take his relationship with Mugi a step further.
Although the story is short and has an intense focus on Mugi, it's engaging, the story budding like a flower and kept me hooked all the way through. The ending, an ending of parting is full of hope.
Hitohira is a story that touches my heart, and one to bring encouragement to all.
