The SoulTaker proved to be a much better show than I originally expected. While the beginning might be slightly slow, the later half is brilliant. At first sight you'll think that characters can't really be good in the confusing mishmash of symbols this show presents, however, soon you'll notice that characters not only are good, but develop as well.
If you want something new, try SoulTaker, doubtless you haven't seen a show like it before. Don't expect too much though, even though its original and deliberately confusing, it lacks both in intelligence and pleasure in comparison to other dementia shows, like Lain or Evangelion.

| This series really makes use of the medium of animation very well. The sureal world that is created, where one doesn't where the line of reality begins and ends, serves to further the story in ways that few anime can or do. It's like an M. C. Escher animation, and the story reflects this. This does not mean, however, that the story is not told in a straightforward manner. If you watch, everything question will eventually get answered. The overall impact of this series is, however, not in the story, but indeed it is in the visuals. Some might say that the sound (specifically the theme song) gets in the way of the action, but I think that the sound helps relate it to work from the past that did similar things with theme music.

| I felt that this anime was rushed when it was made. There was no real sturdy base to the story at all, and what they do throw in is very inadequate for any anime in my opinion.

| Soul-Taker was not a very long anime, only 13 episodes long, but I still failed to survive through it or pick out the essence of the anime. I think that it has failed to become a good anime in many aspects.

| The Soultaker is a corny fighting anime masked within a wonderful shell of dark animation style. If it wasn't for this style of animation, The Soultaker would be no different than other mindless fighting animes. Even though there are a lot of questions posed in the beginning, a lot of various twists in the story line about how all the main character's family members are related to each other, they hardly ever perked my curiosity. In the end, I gained nothing from this anime except for encountering a unique and different style of animation.
The Soultaker is based entirely on the main character's search for identity. He is born a mutant, has a horrible childhood past, hardly expresses himself - the usual silent hero. Each episode focuses on Kyosuke's encounter with the remnants of his sister's soul. Each episode begins with the usual one baddy one Flicker (sister's soul remnants) as he fights to figure out who he is. Towards the latter half, Kyosuke realizes that things aren't as simple as they are. There isn't just a single good guy or bad guy, and he is shocked to figure out how his father and mother tie s in with everything.
I found this short anime series to be really predictable. At times, I scoffed at how lame some parts were when they tried to evoke sympathy from the viewer. The end got a little better, but being a fighting anime, the frames per second during the fights was very low, with only slight improvement during the epic battles. The only unique point of this anime is the style of animation which kept me watching until the end.

| Soul Taker starts off with good potential. I like how the first episode is dark, confusing, and the viewer has not much of an idea of what is going on.
It continues to do well but the show includes a dull aspect: characters morph into super-powered mutants and engage in lame 'Dragonball Z' style fighting scenes. Is it just me, or is it really stupid when characters use an attack and say what the attack is called while they do it? Maybe it's just me.
Other than this lame aspect the show pulls off pretty well in the end. There isn't too much mutant fighting to turn me away from the series entirely.

| Don't be afraid of negative color they were giving you at first. Beside all the weird lights and strange camera's angle, everything else were prefectly normal.
The story begin with 3 groups; Kyosuke, Hospital and Kirihara. In each ep. they will try to push some new info for us, make us giving some objective to watch for. Their story always have a backup somethign to fall to. As you dig deeper you'll find more info, as chars give more info they changing by the plot, it's very amusing. Every chars in there has a purpose, every girls at early come back later on and has a solve some more mysteries for us. Talking about girls, all the girls are cute very cutes even the evil yui were not bad with the style and her romance for her loves one make up for it. Kumugi? was that her name? that witch nurse was the only energic one in the series even then she got some good connnected story in her past to make her fully-fuge. Too bad the weird animation doesn't always show the whole custom of girls so usually we only get see some part of their faces and others part black out. Sad, but it for the great good with their style of weird animation.
I liked all the voices in this series, no lame evil laugh or gloat. The girls voice are perfect since we couldn't see they faces very often their voices make up for it. When they tranform into alien they voice kinda tougher up, cool stuff. I only wish they could come up with a greater name for mutant being and come on give them some more fighting style beside that one lame lighting breaker lol.
The ending is great. It's interesting how they come with a good ending, I mean usually this kind of stuff always end badly or don't end at all. Although they still live on, a certain thing had been done and i'm sure everyone will happy about it.

| just finished this series and I would have to say, man oh man, its wonderful.
Its probably got the wierdest art/animation style ever made in an anime, and at times its hard on the eyes. But if you can see past the animation (which is great, just hard to get used to) you will uncover a magnificent story line.
The plot is very thick and very confusing. The story is told in a manner that leaves you totally and utterly confused for the first 8 or so episodes, but it all comes together with a superb ending.
The opening them, is a little annoying, but the music that is played during the anime is awesome. Hence, the sound would probably be around an 8.
I gave enjoyment a 9 because the first 8 episodes are a little TOO mysterious. Buf if you can endure them, the final 5 wraps things quite well, and if there were a category for "ending", I'd give it a 10.

| After a shaky start the anime does not end up being half bad. The character was good and the animation was very unique. There was a lot of action and drama which I enjoyed. The story beared some similarities to NGE when it comes to imagery and pshycological issues.. only thing is it handles that aspect quite well. Everything is straight forward evenif the creators don't bother explaining things in too much detail.
The only complaint I had was that there were a few cliched aspects of the story which were hard to ignore, however the end was very satisfying and the anime was well done.

| This anime started out horrible, and did little to redeem itself by the end – but I suppose it could have been worse.
The whole idea behind the anime is rather lame, and funny enough the story and characters were pretty pathetic. For the first half I was trying to figure out what was going on . . . hospital what? . . . flickers? and for the entire second half (when I figured out what was going on) I was just waiting for something interesting to happen . . . and it never really did.
There wasn't much to this anime: some vague semblance of a story that might have been a cool idea when it started; Cliché characters with pathetic personalities; some interesting but redundant fight scenes; and lets not forget the horrible music, especially the opening.
Overall it wasn't a pleasant experience and generally speaking I wouldn't recommend this one. It was just good enough to make me finish watching the series, but at the end I felt I had wasted my time.

| This anime is better than to be expected! Yes, at first this anime seems a little shaky, but as it goes along it gets better and better. It's a very sad anime though, it made me cry a few times! :) The story is very deep and sad, but I felt that it was a bit rushed. But, it wouldn't have been as great if it were longer. The end is defintely the best part. I loved the ending! I don't usually like the endings of animes, but I felt that the end of this show was satisfying and really beautiful. It's a little show to check out in your spare time.

| Soultaker, the taker of souls, sounds pretty nifty, eh? Well, it is.
Just glancing at the first few eps, some may think that this is just some random superhero anime due to the transformation sequence and the "finisher" move, but this is really a lot deeper than that.
The sound doesn't stand out too much, but all the tracks fit the particular mood of the scene it was used in perfectly.
The animation style of this particular anime is extremely well done. It gives a deep artistic feel to the entire series with the well animated action scenes and the conversation sequences.
The story is fairly complex, though I feel that a lot of the situations call for a better decision than the ones that the characters in the series made, especially when it comes to whether or not to kill or save certain people. I gave the character section a 9 because of the extensive character development that kyosuke(main character) goes through. Another big reason that the character section deserves a 9 is because of KOMUGI-CHAN(arguably the most awesome character in the entire anime, in terms of comic relief)!
Overall, this was an enjoyable anime, it's far from being the best, but it's definitely up there for people who enjoy deep, serious animes.

| When i saw the first episode i was like "what kind of crap is this?". After viewing the next 2-3 episodes i was on the verge of quit watching the series. Thankfully i didn't and i was rewarded for it. The series got quite better after that and the story improved.
Generally soultaker is a nice series with a very good but a little weird animation.the story is quite good and the music rocks.
if you are in a mood for something dark and out of the ordinary in the anime industry try soultaker out and of course give it or better give yourself a little bit of time to get use to it

| Well, maybe that anime series has a wreid design and animation, but it's only for do a new type of athmospher.
The Animation it's, maybe the colours are a bit confused and the design to, but at the same time is originaly and interesting. The sound track maybe is a bit pathetic ( I don't like very much the opening and all of melodies sounds really stranges, and not atractive ), but it's acceptable. The story is the best thing of that anime, if you say that the storyline of this anime is a litle repetive, well, I will be agree with you only if you are talking about the first five chapters, after that, the story takes a new line, all the characters get more protagonism ( I like the story of Shiro's sister and when Runa appears for first time ( and all about Kyosuke's father, the virus, and his two mothers ( it's a little confused but at the same time realliy amazing ) ) ). The characters are really worked, maybe Shiro and Kumugui are a litle infantile, but Kyosuke, Run and Shiro's sister are really interesting to see, and their stories are amazing.
Maybe at first look, this anime seems like an experminet for a new kind of animation, well, it's originaly, but the originaly it's not only the animation, the story and the characters are excelent, maybe none is an essential anime for an anime-fan, but it's a very interesting anime with an excelent story ( a very good work ).

| In here the animation is ridiculously gorgeous. Lots of rich colors and clean lines all blended together to create some otherworldly aura to the whole event. And a lot of takes. Good lord, the takes are enough to miss something simply by blinking. A lot of Christian fixtures. Huh. Other than that, I can't say that I really was into the whole story. It was fine; just portrayed a little to abstract for my taste. Meaning that the visuals and effects were sort of distracting to me and after a while I just stopped enjoying it and began to have a slight migraine. Yes, you have to pay attention to the plot, but no more than you would with Lain or Boogiepop...um which could be a lot or not a lot depending on the person. I'm not really sure.
Anyway, this anime (to me of course) had sort of a Natural Born Killers visual design meets anime meets goth meets...never mind. Just watch it if you're interested. I, by personal taste, probably won't finish the last two episodes.

| Soul Taker ist mit Sicherheit kein bahnbrechender Anime und auch wenn die visuelle Aufmachung dieser Serie fantastisch und unheimlich beeindruckend ist und den Zuschauer früh dazu verleiten kann in Begeisterungsstürme auszubrechen versteckt sich hinter der Fassade eher weniger Imposantes. So gibt sich die Story sehr komplex und wirr und man wird sich mehr als einmal fragen um was es überhaupt geht. Die Scriptwriter haben sich sichtlich Mühe gegeben hier etwas originelles zu schaffen was durch diesen konfusen Storyverlauf aber erheblich getrübt wird zumal die Basis der Geschichte bei näherer Betrachtung eher altbackene Kunst ist die man in nicht wenigen Animes findet. Der Held erhält monströse Kräfte, kämpft gegen eine mysteriöse Organisation und ist ganz nebenbei noch auf der Suche nach seiner wahren Bestimmung/Identität, nun wirklich nichts Neues...Zwar schaffen es die Charaktere zu Beginn Interesse zu wecken doch je mehr die Serie fortschreitet desto blasser werden sie. Was mir an Soul Taker aber sehr gefallen hat war die Action die sehr schön in Szene gesetzt wurde, es gab Episoden wo ich mir nur noch gedacht habe: "Scheiss auf den Rest, ich will jetzt Action!" Ein sehr schweres Armutszeugnis für Story und Co...So gesehen würde ich Soul Taker nur Fans von Serien anvertrauen die es ordentlich krachen sehen wollen, doch selbst für die könnte der Rest ein ziemlicher Abtörn sein.

| Such beautiful design in an anime series is quite rare -- although nowdays it has been easier to find. Wonderfully directed and animated, not to mention all the great color.
The story is hella confusing, though. Lots of bizarre Christian symbolism is littered throughout, and the chara designs are rather old-school funky; think of Devilman mixed with the Guyver. Actually, you can pick out bits of many different series and movies in this anime...Star Wars comes to mind, even. Not everyone will like SoulTaker -- or appreciate the artistic design and camera work that is employed. But it sure is pretty to watch ^_^
