| Note: This review is for both 3x3 eyes first and second OVAs.
Oh man, another geriatric show which should have never been touched. Seriously, 3x3 eyes is such a crappy show that even writing/reading a review about it sounds like a waste of time... But since I can't break my iron rules I have to write something down anyway. If you already realize that this show is not for you, then you can as well skip this review altogether. I mean, you wont find even a single positive line about 3x3 Eyes in here anyway.
From nonsensical and unfinished story, to one-dimensional and retarded characters, 3x3 Eyes never stops to surprise you with its unfathomable level of crappiness. When it's not boring - it's so bad it can make even the most forgiving users trample everything in rage. Not even mentioning bad production values and already lame original scenario, 3x3 Eyes direction does its best to make everything look even worse. For example there's some weird time gaps when characters suddenly appear in Tibet, then later in Japan again, they don't bother to show or even suggest how did they get from one place to another, it's as if the characters had suddenly teleported there or something. While it doesn't really sound that bad on paper, in the already broken show everything starts to seem even more disjointed when characters change their locations from Japan to Tibet in the matter of a few frames.
Heh, this anime is actually so empty I'm kind of having a hard time remembering even those bad points it has. Either way, no matter who you are - don't watch this show. It's one of the biggest wastes of time and budget (thank god low budget) in the whole anime industry.

| I've lost count of how many times I've seen 3x3 Eyes. It's one of the very first anime I watched many many years ago, along with Ghost in the Shell (original) and Dominion Tank Police and it will always have a special place in my (anime) heart. Admittedly I have only watched the original Japanese version more recently, but this has one of the best dubs ever and is worth watching in any way you can get your hands on it!!

| From now on whenever an anime is based on a manga I'll try to read the manga first. Thankfully I did this with Sazan Eyes and found it more enjoyable than if I hadnt read it at all. Or else some points about the story would be incomprehensible and rushed and so I had to guess what exactly was going on.
This OVA is based on the first 2 volumes with just some modifications in the story.
Since I liked more the early manga volumes I found the OVAs very enjoyable. They carry the manga's atmosphere with a darker overtone. Also the violent scenes are included, though the manga had more graphic violence, but seeing the battles animated is sufficient enough.
For those who liked the manga this is a must see, together with the OVA of 1995. Even if it has some boring moments the action scenes are of the best.

| phew... I am not so excited about this anime that I would care to review it twice so I review also 3x3 eyes shin here. Couple of months ago I tried to watch this anime series but I was so bored about it that I just couldn't watch it to the end... But I tried it again and I REALLY MADE IT!!!
Ok then... 3x3 eyes has got a pretty interesting story. A girl named Pai is the last Sanjiyan and wants to become a human. So she comes to a boy in Tokyo named Yakumo so she can become a human. But they get in troubles and Pai must make Yakumo immortal so he wouldn't die. So then Yakumo and Pai has the same aim.
Well... like before, the couple of first episodes were a real pain to watch(REALLY). Crappy animation, boring plot etc. etc.... But when I came to episode four I thought that itsn't that bad and I think it was a huge relief when I came to the shin because the animation wasn't so bad anymore. Hmm.. The end was good, even better than I thought so to give 7.0 to this series is not so bad.
The animation is average, but a 7 from there is not good although it gets better in the shin. 3x3 eyes doesn't have music in it and I think that it is even a relief because when I try to think a fitting music to 3x3 eyes, it really blows my head off. Voice acting was good and I liked especially Yakumo's voice. Plot was ok and it got better a little bit better at the end. I think characters in 3x3 eyes are average... They are well drawn but they don't have any specialtys in them.
I think that other animefans would like 3x3 eyes but to me it's more like a pain in the ass to watch, because the episodes feel so long...phew... I think I will not watch this series again and I'm proud of myself that I watched it even once but I recommend 3x3 to everyone!

| For overall a very enjoyable anime OVA, which probably everybody has seen/should see, if you like the genre.
For overall pretty good animation but the serie looks kinda old, but still is enought sharp and clear so it doesn't bother while you are watching. I watched a fansubbed anime, that had a real crappy quality.
Story starts pretty fast, and you shouldn't stop watching the show even if you think that the first part sucks. From the second ep the story really starts to move forvard, even getting better and better with each ep. The ending is left open for a reason, 'cause it continues in 3x3 eyes shin (also the story doesn't follow the manga faithfully, which is kinda shame).
As main characters there are Pai, cheerful and happy girl. The "last" sanjiyan, who goes to Tokyo to look for Yakumo. Yakumo is High-school student, who is decided to make Pai a human. The Character develpoment is shown on this anime mostly by the friendship between Pai and Yakumo, which is great 'cause you can really see how they feel for each other.
Sounds weren't so good, but that also isn't that bad so your ears would shatter, but voice talent were well chose and fit to the characters and are not annoying.
I would probably watch this anime again, if I get the change, 'cause the plot is good and I like this kind of anime, so I recommend this for draman action, supernatural genre likers.

| This anime looks old and sounds older. Although the animation looks quite old, it's quite good nevertheless.
It feels a bit like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with a couple of people going around killing weird monsters, but it's more bloody than Buffy.
The action scenes are pretty awesome, the storyline's pretty thin, the humour is pretty crap, and the ending is also pretty crap. That pretty much sums it up I think :P

| On one hand I'm surprised that this is so far down the list of the top 200, but on the other hand I'm not surprised as many people have probably not seen this. The number of reviews on this reflect that.
Basically, I loved this anime when it came out. I first watched the original 4 episodes on television dubbed in english, then some years later I came across the whole 7 episodes on english again. Then a few more years later and I find the Japanese version with english subtitles and you know what? It just gets better and more exciting each time I watch it. This is why I gave such high scores for value and enjoyment.
Now, the story itself I think is really powerful. The characters are very well developed and the story flows very well even though it does get confusing at times. That's why it works so well. The characters are unique and naturally they work well over and over again. This is why we see similar themes in many other anime titles, and yes they all work.
The story leaves you feeling great at times, sad at times and keeps you watching at all times. It's great. The only problem that I have with it would be the lack of variety in the sound and the animation at times. The lack in variety of sounds might be a good thing and it might be bad. It might be bad because it's limited, but it might be good because it keeps in tune with the theme and gives the viewer a great feel when they watch it. You can immediately switch into the world that's being created.
The animation lacks somewhat and is probably the only disappointment. Sometimes you wonder what's being drawn and there are a few repeat scenes in there but it's not all bad. Sometimes it is impressive and detailed.
Overall I think it's a great anime. Forget the fact that it's animation and watch it purely for the storyline because it will hit you again and again every single time you watch it. It's just one of those animes! Enjoy!!!

| This anime was actually alright during the time. I thought it would be a bad series with the mediocre animation. But as I kept watching this OVA series, it had a enjoyable storyline with two main characters that are exceptionally humorous on various situations. There are a quite a few good features on the story, such as with the weird and gloomy enemies. Pai can be very pleasant and outgoing in one of her personalities, while her other side of her persona has a timid feel with people, especially with Yakumo which was very humorous at times. The music was extremely intimidating with the parts that were gory. For those who like anime such as Yu Yu Hakusho or Elfen Lied, and are mostly into the horror and fantasy type, this is an good anime that I would recommend.

| Animation is superb for its time. Music has very exquiste taste embedded into them. And for the span of mere 4 episodes, the author relayed a small universe to audiences, and boy, it was some trip.
The story is about your everyday boy (who works at the bar as a dragqueen) who has a coincidental encounter with the girl who claims to have a thid eye, and along with it, an eternal life.
Although logically, we should always know that the main character are immortal, and shouldn't die, the author poses new threats in every corner to keep the audiences on their seats.
This is a rare gem, and a must-watch if you're classic-fanatic

| Taking into account that it is a 4 episode show, this is amazing. It manages to fit so much into this short interval and you feel comfortable accepting it. This isn't a thinking anime at all, more of a introduction...
I guess this is because everything is so straightforward. This is a very direct anime. It doesn't deal with useless exaggeration of emotional turmoil. From the start, I was drawn in... everything goes so rapidly but not to the point where you go "huh?" Instead the story keeps moving forward.
I can see how Elfen Lied was influenced heavily by 3x3 Eyes. They are very similar in almost all aspects, except for the main male actor is not annoying in the sense that he has some extreme emotional trauma/problems. Someone mentioned that Elfen Lied was a total rip/off but aside from the female character, and the idea of demon power, they both kind of tell a different story. Elfen Lied is much more depressing and sadistic while 3x3 eyes is a story of hope and love. Furthermore, 3x3 has an idea of having a 'Wu' to protect the Sanjiyan, and therefore the basis of the bonds the two main characters have are much different in both animes.
I really like this type of anime from time to time. It gets rid of unnecessary dramatic tension and gets to the heart of the matter. I guess this is mostly due to the simplistic nature of Pai and Yakumo, and the uncomplexity of their relationship.
Audio/Visually speaking, 3x3 isn't very impressive compared to today's standards. The monsters are really ugly and plain. The colors are dull as well. But somehow it doesn't really get to me.
You have to watch the 3 episodes after because the ending is unsatisfactary :(
The next 3 episodes are a lot more interesting and fun.

| WATCH BOTH OVA IN PROPER ORDER!!
I got to admit - I watched both OVA's mixed. :D
I got it from a friend and he had 5 episodes. First two, then one from the middle and the last two :D
So - at first I was confused pretty much and thought sth is VERY wrong! Later I found out about two OAV's.
Re-watching did pretty good - explained in fact everything. So I strongly advise You - watch it IN ORDER.
Now - onto the review itself:
I liked it. Highly. Mind it - that totally mine opinion (Enjoyment) is quite high 8, where 5 is totally neutral and 'nothing good, nothing bad' case. When You know I enjoyed it, it's time to tell You why... Ridian! Greetings to You, cause You've pointed out sth I'm not gonna omitt either :-)
Sorry to keep You waiting, sth came up in between, so :-). The update.

| It's a pretty nice segway to the plot, but knowing that the next OVA is only 3 episode long, you can't help but wonder is it even worth your time, seeing that you know the plot wo'nt come to a conclusion any time soon. You might as well drop this all together and read the manga. Anyway, on to the main review: This is a pretty decent anime on it's own. Being an OVA, every episode is somewhat different than the other and focuses on a different angle of the story. That was overall a nice touch. Animation is pretty standard for it's time, voice acting is decent too. BGM is GREAT! Very very emotional musical scores and a lot of them sounded like the music in ghibly movies (Joe hisaishi's, that is).Plot is good, but as I’ve said, there isn’t any real purpose unless the entire rest of it will come out in the next OVA, and I doubt that'll happen.

| A good introduction to the 3x3 world. The relationship of the main characters and villains are established, as is the premise of the stoy in these 4 OVAs.
The next 3 OVAs continue the story but the manga is far more developed.

| Breaking news! Lucy/Nyuu was a ripoff! As we can see in the OVA series 3x3 Eyes, a cheerful young girl named Pai bears similar schizophrenic personality characteristics -- cheery most of the time, but pissed and warriorlike at others -- to the pink haired bloodletter and was more than 10 years her predecessor! Better yet, she can't actually control the switch between these personalities. Sound familiar? Elfen Lied ain't looking as original anymore.
All that aside though, 3x3 Eyes is a show that has aged a little hard. The animation sure doesn't look as sharp as it did back in 1992, and the gags aren't as fresh or amusing, but it still certainly has legs to stand on in the modern-day field of anime. The legs may not be as sexy, sleek or long as some flashier modern-day series, but 3x3 Eyes has some gripping and occasionally nasty surprises up its sleeve.
3x3 Eyes's strongest aspect is its story; it's also basically why I kept watching the anime. Though the constant bouncing of the Statue of Humanity from hand to hand shows traces of tedium, the OVA isn't really long enough to be affected by this. (As a side note, I have the next OVA series waiting in the wings...) Frankly, I must say that I have few issues with the plot itself, except for episode 2; it's 27 minutes of character-developing filler. And it's not even important character development either: all it does is solidify the facts that Pai and Yakumo are a 'gang' and Yakumo has pretty stupid friends. Granted, it does show us that Yakumo needs to finish what he started, but they could very easily have cut out this episode or strung a new bit of plot in its place.
Maybe I'm missing the point of this, though, because 3x3 Eyes is a 30-volume manga series and this needed to do some cutting to find some sort of point, thereby changing the intention of some scenes. And as I research the manga a little further, it looks like a lot of its staggering length is just as fillery. Oof. At least this isn't 160 episodes like Inuyasha...thank God for small miracles.
Once again, I don't find any glaring flaws in this little OVA's plotline. Presentation is a little iffy (there are some rather jumpy segments, such as the transition between episodes 2 and 3, that converted poorly to anime form) but otherwise the developers did a good job changing the visual media. One could fault it for having a rather inconclusive ending, but it does reach a personal sense of closure even if the bigger problem is not solved. And there's another OVA too...hopefully that'll fix things.
The characters are really nothing special. There's not a distinct personality in sight, save maybe Ling-Ling, whose avaricious antics can be pretty funny at times. In fact, she should have been in more scenes because she kicked ass during some of the fights...Aside from her, the remainder of the cast does their job and little more. I did warm up to Pai more than Yakumo, but probably because Megumi Hayashibara did such an awesome job on her voice acting. I can safely say that Pai's VA improved the overall quality of the character. Yakumo is pretty dull (and has that weird chronic closed-eye thing going on), his 'friends' are blithering idiots, I can't even remember the name of the psychic's sister for all she's worth and there is no consistent villain. The latter issue may be due to the somewhat jumpy nature of the show, but I would have enjoyed knowing who exactly the antagonist of the series is without it being rotated every 15 minutes.
3x3 Eyes has withstood the test of time better in some aspects than others; for all that the animation has suffered, it still managed to engage me enough to finish it. Watching the other OVA, on the other hand, may be a little more difficult. Those 3 episodes are over 40 minutes a piece...and right now I'm not too wild about that prospect. I suppose that, once again, time will tell.

| I've watched this anime a few years ago. I believe it was the first anime I ever put interest in. Of course compare to anime nowadays it might not be good, but I can still remember this anime clearly.
The story is probably better if you read the manga, that's what I heard. Because if you watch the episode you'll notice a few missing gaps and the end is a bit open. The characters were very interesting. Even though at first sight you might think this anime to be violent with all the blood, it turns out to be quite soft and all nice elements are playing a part in it. Bit of comedy, demonic powers and romance.
It's a very good anime to watch. I was surprised that it is low in rank.

| After I've heard a lot of positive things about 3x3 Eyes, I decided to give it a try, something I didn't regret.
3x3 Eyes tells the story of Pai, the last survivor of the ancient three eyed Sanjiyan, a race of mystical creatures with unknown power. What happens when your average student boy gets involved in all this mess? The answer is a short and sweet Anime: 3x3 Eyes.
The story is kinda interesting, involving a mystical race of 3 eyed creatures. [possible spoilers ahead] The horror aspect of the Anime is also really well done, with lots of scenes where Yakumo (attemps to) fights monsters who're after Pai, only it mostly ends up getting him impaled, speared, beheaded etc. ^^' [end spoilers]
I found the sound below average.. the BGM did fit the mood though (dark and gloomy) but it were all boring themes.. I never finished the ending, for I found it no good..
A positive point of the Anime is the enjoyment. The show might need a few eps to catch your attention, but after that it really captures you.
The soundactors are all good. Not great, but plain good.
Overall a good Anime.

| "Yakumo!"
"Pai!"
"Yakumo!"
"Pai!"
"Yakumo"
Repeat this a thousand times and you have 3x3 Eyes. I lost count of how many times the main characters' names were repeated pretty quickly. A sizable portion of the dialogue is devoted to having the 2 main characters call each other's names repeatedly until they run out of breath.
Aside from that extremely irritating flaw, 3x3 is a decent series if you consider the time it was made.
The animation was top notch. Very fluid and full of details. It was definitely way above other anime made during that time. The music was decent. I didn't find the audio to be very memorable at all.
I find the characters to be very retarded. Since Yakumo is immortal (it's barely a spoiler, you learn this from the first 5 minutes of the show), why the heck do the villains keep trying to kill him? Why not attack Pai instead? Come on! THEY KNOW he is immortal. And Pai always seem to over-react to everything. And as I said in the beginning, Yakumo and Pai love to call each other's name a thousand times over and over. This got on my nerves starting from episode 2. One of the villain has the most irritating laugh in the history of anime. It sounded like he's trying to make his lungs come out of his mouth or something.
The story was fairly good. It's nice to see an anime that is not overly convulted and contrived. Too many modern anime try to be deep and end up being trash. 3x3 eyes keeps the story simple. You have a hero and a girl...and they have a "quest" to do. Simple as that.
Overall, 3x3 eyes is good if you put it in the time frame of the early 1990's. But as someone who watched it in 2004, it was on the edge of being boring...barely watchable for me.

| Good old school anime back in the days of VHS, def. worth a watch, but i wouldn't call it a great anime, very good but not great. Until they bring out the remastered version of dvd, the VHS version looks dated and could be harder to watch for the newer anime fans.

| I found these 4 episodes boring. Very boring. There were a few interesting scenes, but for the most part it was a bunch of storytelling that just wasn't very good. The animation wasn't all that impressive (though still pretty good considering when it was made) and the music repeated too often. And of course, the ending wasn't really an ending, because there are 3 more episodes, which I'll review seperately. I also didn't particularly care for the characters. I think I might have liked this anime better if I had seen it closer to when it was made. I might be a little spoiled by current anime standards.
