| Falls far short of its potential.
Swords, guns, zombies, demons, reserved cool dude with a secret, obnoxious jerk who cares, shy girl coming out of her shell. Add a few twists and turns and you have the making of a good story.
Unfortunately, Zombie Loan comes up short. Thirteen episodes left me asking "what did I just watch?" There was no conclusion and too many strings left dangling for it to be finished up in another season or two. Just another "throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" show.

| This series follows the travails of a timid, wallflower of a girl as she stumbles into the affairs of two zombies hunting other zombies for money. An interesting idea but it could have been better done.

| An unexciting show about two zombie-hunting zombies and a girl/gopher who is able to see the walking dead. As a concept, it didn’t sound that bad but the execution left much to be desired. The story never seemed to move anywhere. Though are two male leads were supposed to be hunting zombies for a specific purpose they seem to spend more time bickering than trying to achieve their goals. By the end of the series they are no further along than when they started, making this show feel like one giant eleven episode teaser. They hadn’t even gotten to the meat of the story and it was over.

| An anime made from a manga produced by Peach-Pit. I'm starting to get into Peach-Pit. (Watching DearS and Shugo Chara at the moment) So Zombie-Loan was a pleasant surprise, because the other two shows mentioned were a magical girl series and a perverted show series. Instead of those you get an action show which is good at best.
The character designs were good and I loved the lazy artwork sometimes ..... if they were cute, that is. The backgrounds were dark and that helped fit the mood of the series, but during the action sequence I thought the animations there were a little poor. I mean for action scenes they had the sliding screen of color in the background too many times. It's like the budget wasn't big enough to fill in the details, not to mention only produce 11 episodes. I thought this show would have been good as a 26 episode series, but I guess the budget wasn't big enough.
The OP song reminded me of the Death Note second opening song. Is it sung by the same singer? Nope. Never mind. It's not. The ED song was pretty catchy at first I didn't like it, but it grew on me the more times I heard it. Background music is decent and the voice acting was fairly good in my opinion.
The story had some pacing issues. One moment everyone is fighting, then we have some happy scenes, and then we have a character development scene, and we end the episode with a whole bunch of dialog. That was the only thing that brought it down was the awful pacing, but I guess they had to do it due to the 11 episode time limit they had. Story started well from the first episode in my opinion.
At first I didn't like the two guys, Shito and Akatsuki. I also thought Michiru was annoying with her annoying personality. But as the series progressed I felt closer to the characters and eventually at the end, I liked them. We have Michiru who has the shinigami eyes and can see black rings on people's necks that tell if they're going to die soon or not. First she was shy and was bullied, but later on she toughens up and grows up to be a like-able character.
Zombie-Loan was decent/good at best. It won't go down for being the best action show, but it does a good job at entertaining you. The only downward thing for this series was the pacing of the episodes with happy scenes suddenly turning into violent fight scenes. A little off, but hey, they only had 11 episodes to fit everything. Not to mention the ending felt like the anime just started.

| It may not be loaded with clichés, but they are there, and it's a mediocre show at best. The first couple of episodes were fairly enjoyable, but the storyline didn't really impress me. It's about 2 guys in junior high who are really popular at their school because they look cool, and they got lots of publicity after surviving an incident that killed everyone involved.
Hence, they died, but became zombies who have to kill other 'illegal zombies' in order to get their regular lives back by paying their debth for becoming zombies instead of perishing. Z-loan is slow paced and boring. I thought the main characters seemed cool at first, but they don't show much personality, in my opinion. Shito is calm, arrogant and straightforward.. that's easy to notice, but that's all there is to him.
I don't recall seeing him do anything but quarrel with Akatsuki and sometimes act as support in combat. The combat sequences are damn dissapointing as well. They have superpowers and all, but all they can do is slice and shoot (with spirit-bullets that are made to kill zombies with). Akatsuki is the one who sticks out the most. His personality is much like that of Ginji in 'Getbackers', in fact they both turn into 'cute' miniature versions of themselves in certain situations. As stated above, you get to know their most obvious hints of personalities, but neither of them left an impression.
And then there's the 'gopher' Michiru, who posesses the 'shinigami eyes' that allows her to tell if people are about to get killed, judging by the contrast of the red ring around peoples' necks. She's the typical shy and geeky girl who gets bullied around and sometimes end up in awkward situations where she kisses another girl and/or shows some skin. She's not very interesting.
The animation of this show is quite good. Nothing outstanding judging by today's standards, but it's well animated nonetheless. I personally like the intro-song, though it's quite repeatative. It sounds kind of like Wolfmother, only with japanese vocals. I don't remember how the outro-song was like, so it probably wasn't worth noting down.
