Koutetsu Sangokushi is a very interesting anime.........well, at least in concept anyway. First thing is the fact that it's kind of SHOUNEN-AI, if you didn't already catch the image of the two male leads in mid-grope during the OP sequence. But funny the funny thing is that there isn't anything more in the story to say it's a GENUINE SHOUNEN-AI piece...no real concrete emotions, romantic relationships much less anything hardcore going on between the characters. Anywho, that aside, I guess you could also call Koutetsu a 'sentai' series [Sentai = color coded warriors, like Voltron or Power Rangers], and then even further aside from it just being a sentai series....this show should also be considered a SUPER BISHOUNEN anime since there were so many of them. But this show is SUPER BISHOUNEN not because of the quantity but the quality. They were super androgynous and just way too girlie for my tastes. Dare I say, this show has truly reached a new level....the OKAMA level having all these men/women running around.

So if you are going to watch this series, you are gonna have to be prepared for all of that and then some. And even if you do succeed in getting over yourself and moving past all the OKAMA and androgyny floating about, Koutetsu Sangokushi, is still a pretty [un]interesting anime...,in that creative yet not so historically accurate kind of way.

It should be noted that this show includes tension between some of the male characters (lol), which is basically why i stopped watching it. Add a large Shounen AI tag to it, highlighted in flashy colours :P

Warning* for those of you who know what the concept of Shounen-Ai is...this anime is chocked full of it and if you wish to have nothing to do with it then i suggest you stay away from this anime.

Based loosely on the famous Romance of The Three Kingdoms saga.

In this era there are primarily three kingdoms that make up the country of China: Wei of the North, Shu of the East, and Wu of the West.
The main character is Lu Xun a famous general known as "The Crimson Warrior" who works under the Sun family of Wu. Under the advice of his master Zhuge Liang
he agrees to join the army of Wu in search of the Imperial Seal which was stolen from his family by Sun Ce. The seal can gives it's master unbelievable power and so must be kept safe from the invading forces

I wouldnt put too much emphasis on how this anime relates to ROTK. The plot itself is realistic enough, but the power that this seal gives is almost Gundam-esque and too technologically advanced to be realistic back in that era...

Warning* there is also something weird going on with the character animations in this anime. Main Characters that appear first to be and act like females are in actual fact all males !! There is a character which is wearing what appears to be a short skirt and female battle armor, but is actually male and it seems like they did a gender change at the last possible moment and the result is alot of awkward scenes ex. Cao Cao and Sun Quan (thats actually Sun Quan in the picture LOL)
