| I've seen several Tenchi series', but can say that this one, the first and original, is the best of them! This series combines a good mix of action, comedy, and harem romance that made it very enjoyable for me to watch! My only complaint is that they didn't tie up any loose ends in this series.

| Undoubtedly my favorite show. Along with a few other shows from the early 90's, it helped start the harem genre, and did it better than any show since.

| I saw Tenchi Universe and Tenchi in Tokyo before this, and I guess that might have ruined my attitude towards this since I utterly hated both of those. However, I felt that the OVA is better because it has less useless boring 'story' elements, which in my opinion failed in the other two tenchi series.
One of the best parts of this OVA was the roles the characters played and how much time was spent on them. Instead of trying to advocate some save the planet storyline, it focuses more on character interactions and humor. I also think Ryo-Ohko was much more cooler here. But as usual, Tenchi is boring.
Hmm... I'm not sure how someone who hasn't seen the other Tenchis would think of these characters, because again it relies on mindless destruction and behavior, and Tenchis resistance to all the girls.
I recommend this over the series, because it is just the right length without too much on needless stuff. Still maintains the usual Tenchi humor and comedy style though.

| As a result enjoyment reached its peak, because who cares about the music and stuff, we are just enjoying the funny storyline with the marvellous characters.
The best for me about Tenchi, and it stands with the Tenchi - Forever for me. Two absolutely great series.
Nice anime to watch if you are tired of some mind-digging anime-stuff...

| Tenchi Muyo's one of those series (and one of a huge, huge list...) where I said to myself, long ago, as a rather puerile and somewhat eager little hatchling, 'I really, really need to see this, because my anime peers will pour scorn upon my head as if from the outflow pipe of an old public lavatory'. It's a minorly infamous series, even here in the UK: part of this OVA was shown on the Sci-Fi channel, so far as history tells me. Having not seen it at that time, I'm more than impressed at now having the Japanese version at my disposal. A winner is me. I decided to pick it up because I was doing some field study on cute critters in anime - and I wasn't disappointed.
The series begins unremarkably, to be honest; see Tenchi, watch him pry around an ancient legend because his grandfather has told him not to, but then, ancient legends are never ever ever true (right?) .. except for this one time, of course, and this other time, and.. yes! Be mildly surprised when the dubiously vanquished 'demon' ends up in his bed. And then.. fail to be surprised as, concurrently, Tenchi proceeds to attract the gaze and charm of almost every somewhat suitable female that comes his way. Yes indeed, intrepid viewers, this is considered by many to be the original 'harem anime' and it doesn't fail to meet such a title.
There are a few key things to note here, really:
* Almost none of Tenchi's potential suitors are under 700 years of age. I don't think any of them are even under 1000, really. One would imagine this age gap is a problem, but no, it's perfectly OK. The only exception may be Mihoshi, and we're not too fussed about that; we don't know too much about her anyway.
* Not one of them is human, either. This is perfectly OK, and probably implied by the previous point.
* Almost everyone seems to be related to someone else. Even Ryo-Ohki. This, too, is perfectly OK.
* Finally, all the bystanders and Tenchi's immediate family seem more than happy to let Tenchi 'parade' four girlfriends around. This is perfectly OK as well, despite the fact that Tenchi isn't interested in the slightest. This is also perfectly OK, as nobody seems to have noticed.
Someone's actually thought about the characters and their interaction, and blissfully chosen to ignore anything that gets in the way, such as age gaps, incest, random explosions, other females, evil people seeking ultimate power, mind control, superdimensional beings attepting to assert their will, duplication, insanity, and strangely bearded guys with no sense of priority.
And so they should: the trials are only there to strengthen the bonds of love -- all four of them, of course -- while provding the viewer with enough hilarity to get by. If your disbelief can be suspended this far, then you'll have fun. And if it can't, we have plenty of Misaki-esque protective otaku out there who will quite happily pour scorn upon you, as if from the washbowl of Washu herself.
Although it tells a story and puts characters to it, it doesn't rise above in quite the way many have put it over to me. Some would argue this is the effect of me not seeing it earlier in time. All there is to say about that is 'Why should it matter?'
Overall, and though I'm not really advocating incest here, I rather enjoyed it. Actually, I enjoyed it more than the rating's overall: which is more common than not for me, and just shows I'm very easily amused. But then, I laughed at Ryo-Ohki-chan's performing act. I'm so horribly biased. I just hope my review is a little more objective than myself..

| What can I say? I can't rate this anime poorly since it was the first anime that I ever enjoyed. There are few series that can stand up to the impression that Tenchi Muyo Ryo-ohki OAV made on me... it really is stunning. Looking back on the series, it seems pretty ridiculous that Tenchi could keep girls so close to him without doing JACK SQUAT, but that's the point of the series right? No need for Tenchi... it lives up to its name, since the story focuses on the girls and not on Tenchi himself. You can't really call this a romance series, since it contains NO romantic parts (besides, if you want that aspect, watch Tenchi in Tokyo, and that's not as good), but it does contain a lot of humor and some action sequences. If you've seen the DVD or VHS versions of the show, you'll also notice a LOT of fan service: ryoko walks around naked pretty much 3/4 of the time. Aired in 1992, this anime still has incredible artwork, there's no doubt about it. Since it is the pioneer of the "harem anime," Tenchi Muyo Ryo-ohki is a must see!

| The only good version of the Tenchi series. It's cute, funny and has an amusing cast. The music and voices were decent, and the storyline was fairly simple. The lead character can be dull at times in his own funny way. The grandfather of Tenchi and Ayeka were really my favorable characters in the whole story. If only they made the story a little more serious and had a strong leading character, then I would've given it a higher number for the story. Great to watch if you want a comedy/sci-fi genre.

| I really liked this OVA. Especially the first couple episodes, which were totally hilarious and unpredictable. The characters in this anime are very fun and their relationships develop well. From a technical standpoint, the animation is dated and the music is immediately forgetable. The Japanese voices are good though. If you're looking for an entertaining and somewhat ecchi comedy, this OVA is a great place to start for the Tenchi series.

| The Tenchi Muyo OVA is my favorite series out of all Tenchi so far. I first saw this on Toonami on cartoon network in highschool, but have since bought the DVD's. I like the OVA's story and it has the best music out of the Tenchi shows. If you would like to know more read my review.

| Another full ten! Oh, yes! This is THE Tenchi series, not those sub-par 26-ep they did after that (I'm talking about Tenchi Universe and Tenchi in Tokyo, not GXP)
This has got it all: action, *ahem* romance, humor... Everything! And it's all crammed up in 13 eps (actually it's 6 and 7 episodes, since the 1st OVA is the first 6 eps, then the second is the latter 7 eps).
And I don't care wether Tenchi chooses anyone. Actually, I don't want him to choose: that's the point. If he did choose, it wouldn't be Tenchi anymore.
Plus, the story continues in the 3rd OVA and GXP. (other series are not in the same continuity)
Very Highly recomended.

| This is a respectable series. When anime classics come to mind, people think, "ranma 1/2, dragon ball, sailor moon, gundam etc.. and last but not least TENCHI MUYO". For a 1995 anime the animation is great and the tenchi OST's are also enjoyable. Tenchi Muyo is proably most known for the conflict between Ayeka and Ryoko over Tenchi, it is because that adds a lot to the enjoyment factor of this series. Things felt a little bit rushed with the big cast of main characters, and the last episode was fun to watch and all, ehh but im not sure if its the right ending. Even though this was short its still somewhat better than tenchi universe from my opinion and many others. O and if you watched this thing on cartoon network try to watch it in japanese with original english subs. Because the english voice actors for all the characters were very bad except for sasami and maybe mihoshi, and they do edit a lot of things out on the cartoon network like nudity and dialougue. So if your new to anime and havent come accross this series i highly reccomend this, because this is a true anime classic.

| On paper, Tenchi Muyo feels like another harem anime where the useless hero interacts with various hot females. But in reality, it's all about character development, the hero stepping up to the plate and shatter all the misconception about these types of anime.
The animation is old school considering it is back in the early 90s. But it is still colourful and fluent, the characters designs are unique yet lovable. You can see the high production values just in the animation.
The story and character are where it shines for this series. Eventhough it's only an OVA and eventhough it's spread over several years to develop these episodes. The story is tight and intense, with a lot of character development where you can see each inner emotion being surfaced as the story went on. And all this while it is able to be light-hearted and funny at the same time. Something that most anime fail to do so, especially in an OVA format.
This is certainly one series that people should not miss, and it's still a good anime to re-watch once in awhile.

| I saw this show a long time ago and it is still one of my favorites. However it pains me to see what Tenchi's after it have done. Tenchi Muyo had great characters. Unlike its reputation it wasn't a bunch of space girls who all have the hots for Tenchi. In the original Ryoko and Ayeka were the only real ones who spend a good amount of time fawning over Tenchi. All the characters were unique and had multiple well rounded sides to them.
Unlike other Tenchi shows *cough(Tenchi in Tokyo)* where the characters are just boiled down stereotypes of themselves. Like Sasami the cleaning cooking one, or Mihoshi the ditsy stupid one (who its worth pointing out, did alot things better and more competently than the other characters in the OVA, like peeling patatoes)
the plot was great, original, and well told. The animation shows its age and is a bit degraded; however, the actual drawings are very well done, and have a great level of detail that you don't see that often.
In short I love Tenchi Muyo, However I think the other Tenchi's are a disgrace, especialy Tenchi in Tokyo, Tenchi universe is ok though

| I have to go with Phased on the animation, considering when this was made its excellent.
The opening and ending songs were incredible in this series and I have to say the music and sound effects during the show were quite good as well. I listen to the first OST still in the car alot.
The only thing stopping me from giving this anime a 10 in story is that they left alot of the story incomplete in the OVA's.... Tenchi fans have been speculating about so much about what was left unsaid and done. Now thats not to say that the OVA's aren't a complete story, as they are.
I haven't watched the OVA's in almost a year or so, but I can still clearly picture all the characters and remember many of the funny bits ( the "Nurse Washu" scene is classic, and Ryoko chasing Tenchi in the school... oh so good :)
Value and enjoyment are clearly my own personal opinions of the OVA's and I urge anybody who likes the "Harem Anime" genre to defenitely watch Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki
This anime can be watched easily English dubbed as well as Japanese subbed, and its one of the few series I recomend watching english dubbed, along with El Hazard, Ranma 1/2 (1st), and Inu Yasha.
So what are you waiting for?!? Go watch! Now if you will excuse me, I have to watch the OVA's again :)

| this was one of the few anime that made my laugh out loud and really wraps me into the tenchi world, the characters are very nice, story line, well, some may feel thats its too loose and scatered as it hasnt got a general aim in the story i.e. a mission or aim, for most of the time anyway. but it is still so funny and good, just a story of everyday life, a little like love hina but much better.

| I really like this better than Tenchi Universe. It's got a more serious feel to it and the characters all seem so much more interesting. Kagato for one is wayyy better in the OVA than in Tenchi Universe. Giving a little organ recital while you wait for your enemies to make their way to you = awesome. Love the Sasami/Tsunami storyline, love the Light Hawk Wing thing. And they've finally started releasing the 3rd season of this to continue the Tokimi storyline. It's being released very slowly, but I won't complain since I'm just glad they are making the 3rd season at all. I can't wait to see where they go with it.

| This is my most favorite anime of all time. I love the story and the characters, it so loveable in everyway. It really shows what true love is. The only thing I don't like is that everytime they make a new series it has to end so soon. If Tenchi Muyo would never end I would enjoy life much more.

| A simple pleasure in my life, one of my first animes to see...spent an entire day copying the tapes from a friend...I still have them too. A joy to watch for me, the characters are fun and full of life. Although some of the animation is older, it still holds it's own with the classics.

| One of my old-time favorites- and one the last animes in which a boy surrounded by beautiful women who want him was funny (and not in a "oh they're doing it again" way). I guess I have a soft spot in my bitter, cold soul for this one because it was one of my first animes. I still laugh whenever I watch the characters bounce off one another, there's just something in this anime that keeps it funny.
