A cute but very divided story. There are many good ideas in here, but they are badly carried out with poor directing, poor animation and pretty indifferent voice acting.

All in all, this could have been good, but it isn't. I heard the game is better, though.

This anime does not have anything special or unique to offer. I was disappointed because at first glance it does look like it will be your typical school age romance anime, but other reviewers said they were proven wrong.
Okay so it has like one or two pretty meaningless and underdeveloped twists at the end, the interesting story is of the characters they dont even focus on. This story was just going nowhere then all of a sudden it raced through the important stuff and concluded.

The story of a young boy coming back to the hometown where he grew up, only to find deeply held secrets. Interesting side characters and a not-bad romance cannot buoy a weak story.

This anime, is one of the best anime shows I've ever seen. I don't know why people gave it such a low rating, and if someone does pass by, seeing the low rating, they will probably not watch this show. However, I highly recomend this show. It has many elements that not many other shows have. The love story is very romantic, and the drama keeps your heart racing.

An incredibly uneven series, MySelf, Yourself tries to mix melodramatic plot twists into a genre romantic comedy. While some of these twists are quite enjoyable, a number either make little sense in the context of the characters as developed, or are so poorly established that any reward seems hollow. Its quite unfortunate then that the first 2/3 of the series is mostly filler with only hints of the drama set to unfold. Well done story lines such as Shuu's and Sana's relationship show the potential that the series may have had and make the series' failings are the more frustrating.

Myself; Yourself is not a light-hearted romance/comedy. It is a serious story about painful pasts and overcoming obstacles. Despite an interesting scenario and characters with lots of potential this show fell short of what I was expecting and introduced dark themes near the end which really aren't appropriate for younger audiences.

At first glance Myself; Yourself looks like a typical harem anime with four girls. And that each episode will dedicate a background on a girl and how much she loves the main character. Well, I guess you're kind of right. This anime somewhat does that, but not all the girls love the main character. Actually most of them don't really care, except for one girl.

The animations are well done. Bright, vibrant, and full or colors. And when they try to do a moody scene. They'll try to include as many sunsets as possible just to make things look more dramastic. As you can tell if you watch the opening song. That the backgrounds will be colorful and the character designs will be great. There are a few 3Dish moments in the anime, but they come few and don't really serve as much of an importance.

The sound for this anime was fantastic. From the background music that was used mostly at the end of each episode. I love that song. It has such a good tone to it and it sounds really good. From the vibrant OP and ED songs they had. Tears Infection which is the opening song for Myself; Yourself already has 116 plays for me. That's crazy. Anyway, the voice actors do a pretty good job. And I sort of started to get used to Aoi's voice. Well, not really, but you know. She has the same voice as Chiyo in Azumanga Daioh. But Chiyo is a little girl and now we have Aoi who is ummm .... not a little girl.

The story starts off generic and leaves you with little hints of what is to come in the series. While some plot twists are predictable, some of them come at you fast when you least expect it. So, I was a little surprised when Myself; Yourself threw a whole bunch of plot twists at me when I wasn't expecting it. The reason why Myself; Yourself story fails quite a bit, even with those major plot twists are because of bad execution skills.

The show has good potential, well, it has a good plan. But the way they execute it wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. Some of the drama felt forced and some of the episodes felt like fillers with only a little bit of plt development in the beginning. Then at the end the story felt sort of rushed, but at least by the ending, everything was resolved. Leaving no stone unturned. Or however that saying goes.

The characters in this anime looked generic at first. But in reality most of them have a serious background to them. They aren't just "OMG! I broke a fingernail and now the main character is going to bring me to a hospital. Oh no, I think I'm falling in love with him." The character's all have a pretty good background. From Shuri and Shu with parent problems and that was actually handled pretty good. One of my favorite characters backgrounds. From Asami and her love problem with a certain someone. That was unexpected for me and the anime throws a few more at you as well. Sad things is that some of the characters had no background at all. And I bet if they pulled this anime to 24 episodes.

I'm sure we would have gotten an Aoi's background and a Hinako's background. Because the way they started Hinako would have had a really good background story what with her parents always leaving her like that. But they stayed on the safe side and just gave her a filler fun episode. Whatever. If they made this anime into 24 episodes. I'm sure it would have been mostly filler like 33% of it would have been filler and my score for it would have gone lower. Because that's what most harems suffer if they go on for too long and some harems already suffer when they have 12 or 13 episodes. Anyway, Myself; Yourself does a pretty good job seeing how much time they had and stuff. I don't really rate 12 to 13 episodes animes that high, so Myself; Yourself was pretty good.

Myself; Yourself actually had me hooked by episode two or three. I felt like I had to watch the next episode, because everytime they gave us a hint about something that was going to happen. I really wanted to know if my prediction was right or not and while on the way to discover that answer. We would run into sudden plot twists that would totally make me want to watch more. Myself; Yourself to me did a really good job at hooking me from the start and it ended with a pretty good/decent ending as well.

Overall, Myself; Yourself was a good anime. I wouldn't say excellent, because they were many flaws in the story's execution and that some of the drama felt forced. And that Myself; Yourself didn't take the unusual route and instead stuck with the generic harem setting at the beginning. But to look over those flaws, you have some wonderful character designs and colorful backgrounds. Some good background music. (I love that song they play at the end of almost every episode) The fantastic OP/ED songs that kept me hooked watching them each episode. Instead of just skipping them which I usually do. When I first expected Myself; Yourself. I was thinking generic harem where each girl will love the main character. In some ways that's true, but in some ways it's not. Other than that I can totally recommend this anime to romance/drama lovers. It's a pretty good watch from start to finish.

P.S. The black blood looked a little awkward, but they had to do it to make it seem less scary. Or something.

P.S.S. This has been one of my longest reviews almost reaching a thousand words. *gasp*

My first impression of this anime was that it was going to be like every other school-life anime/romance. And it started out how I expected it to, but it took an interesting turn of events, one that I have not seen in a long time. Myself;Yourself may look like a love story on the outside but it is much more. overall I enjoyed the anime throughly but it does lack some elements that prevent it from gaining a perfect 10.

Myself; Yourself is an anime adaption of a game that was released in the middle of this series' airing. And if you can't tell already, M;Y is basically a 13-episode long TV commercial for the PS2 game. Truly there are other anime adoptions of games that are released after the TV airing that are good? I don't think there will ever be one after watching M;Y. Not only do they show a little bit of everything from the game's various routes and put them into animated form, but they don't even do a good job of putting them together yet alone allot enough time for each route in only 13 episodes. And with cliché plot twists and dramatic story elements used for the sake of evoking emotions out of the player/watcher, I don't think M;Y is that good of a game, either.

The trouble with being such a commercial is that they have to show a little bit of everything from the game, like a preview for future customers. For adoptions of games AFTER they are released, the producers have the liberty of fully showing the various routes of the games even though the protagonist will eventually end up with only one of the girls. In M;Y, they don't have the liberty at all - if they fully showed a route, then people wouldn't buy the game now would they? In addition, M;Y seems to only focus on not the lead-up, but on the dramatic story elements tied to each route. This isn't how to tell a story - this is basically spoiling the story's entirety. Add the fact they intercept each other's routes many times in the anime, even leaving some totally unresolved, a pre-release game commercial is altogether a bad idea.

If the paragraph above isn't enough to deter you from watching M;Y, then I'd think you'll easily "put this in your top 10" just by the story elements alone. Even I was impressed by the revealing of the characters' backgrounds enough to evoke anger in me for how morally messed up they were (ala nobles vs commons, evil step-parents, massacre of innocents in war, etc.) [no, this isn't a war anime lol]. Alas, the anime does not do a good job in the presentation of these routes, nor do the revelations make sense in the overall storyline. For one, going back and forth between routes cuts up the plot very nicely. Second, these backgrounds felt like they came out of nowhere, feeling contrived like a post-Bones Sunrise plot twist. Clearly a pre-release game commercial is a bad idea.

If there was one thing the M;Y anime adoption needed more of, it was Hinako. Both (Or was it three? The routes kept intercepting each other.) of her episodes kept me interested on how they will go about telling the romance of an 11-year-old (in addition to being incredibly cute, of course).

Animation is decent for 2007. The OP "Tears Infection" is quite a catchy song, especially when that keyboard part is repeated over and over again during the chorus. Props to the violin song; if anybody noticed, the song evolved from being a simple quarter-note melody to a full blown rhythmic instrumental.

Watch Myself; Yourself to see for yourself an example of [ANY] a pre-release game commercial.

***ONE MORE THING: Blame the incident that delayed School Day's last episode (the one with the Nice Boat) for some of the scenes you'll see in this anime. I believe the proper term you'd give the species is "robot". Both anime has motor oil running through their bodies.

Myself, Yourself is a series that would appeal to those who like school based series with a mixture of comedy and romance, yet builds upon a dramatic focus.

Consider Sana Hidaka, a boy who moves back to his hometown after 5 years, who rekindles his relationships with his childhood friends, yet holds a major secret regarding events occurring in the time he's been away. Matter of fact, it seems like all of the characters, on the surface, try to rekindle the times they had in their childhood, but find themselves unable to because of how much things have changed not only between them in relationships, but also progressively in their current lives, and the series makes an attempt to mix sentimental romance and sweet comedy with the growing complications among the friends.

I enjoyed this series in some of the episodes with the mixing of the comedy, romance, and some hints at drama before it starts progressing into some of the major plot points. It's typical, but it's hard not to smile because, genuinely, you feel like these characters have good chemistry and are coming back together to reminisce about the good times as well as create new, fun memories. Yet, at a certain point you start to realize- either the plot doesn't move, or it moves awkwardly, like it builds up to a climax that it doesn't quite reach. Unfortunately, that's the downfall of this series.

The conclusion of this series was quite mishandled and rushed, but I wouldn't call it horrible, it left a lot to be desired in terms of questions and relationships, and one can tell that the ending was somewhat slapped on just to bring closure. I actually would have ranked my enjoyment a bit higher considering the series start and the relations of the characters, but it just felt so...sequentially lacking.

Animation-wise, decent for a series of it's time. Character designs were well done and backdrop cels and coloring were consistent and excellent for the most part. Music was also perhaps the best part of the series-the OP theme "Tears Infection" by Kaori was well done, as was the ED "Kimi to Yozora to Sakamichi to" by Itou Kanako-upbeat themes that one could hum along to. BGM was well noted as well, though I don't know if I would have appreciated it as much on a standalone value.

The problem with Myself, Yourself wasn't so much the characters-I think all of the characters were likable or had the potential to grow into them, and that's in part for the good VA work in the series. Sana's character is a bit clumsy, but he's a somewhat likable lead (even with certain events in the series he seems squeamish) while Nanaka seems stand-offish at first, but is genuinely warm-some of the bit scenes focusing on their characters were good, while others I wish had more definition. The twins Shuri and Shosuuke were fun characters at their best, even those one could relate with when things became tough for the two...I really wish I had more closure regarding their characters in the aftermath of the series. Aoi's VA was the only one I found awkward in the whole course of the series, but even then I actually did like her contribution to the situational humor within the series in points.

There are some shocker points to this series in its overall progression, I wouldn't compare it to School Days, but there are graphic points that culminate to a head-sometimes even feeling like they try to hard to be shocking (which would lend me to say this is not a series for younger audiences.) I probably would have felt more if the series were slightly longer or if the episodic development/arrangement were handled better.

It had the potential to be an excellent series, but because of its overall progression, I would only say it's a decent series and worth watching at least once. Beyond that is up to viewer preference, and I think an audience who doesn't come into it expecting too much, but wants a sentimental series in the mixture of the genres listed above. Despite flaws, I would certainly buy this if it came to the states.
