OI! Lets make it clear right now. I am a guy. A pretty manly guy most of the time, ok. So how in holy living heck did I pretty much ball my eyes out when I watched this show. I've heard talk about how the story wasn't all that great, and how so many things were left out. Let me state this again. I balled my eyes out. That doesn't happen, almost ever. Now, on to the review.

DC2SS continues the arc of DC2 but wisely refocuses onto the Asakura siblings. A DC series personifies psychic pain but in the attempt DC2SS leaves some massive plot holes.

Da Capo II SS is a continuation of Da Capo II except this time it focues on the Asakura sisters and Sakurai (finally!). If you were waiting for more of the sisters' involvement in the series, your wait is over. This does mean that the other characters (i.e. Koko, Nanaka, etc.) get very little air time so if you were rooting for more of those, you're better off re-watching the original Da Capo II.

I think this sequel might even rival the intensity of the original series, though the Jun'ichi & Nemu combo is pretty hard to beat. This series itakes a sad turn in the latter half and is concluded by a somewhat abrupt ending. Despite this, it still holds its own thanks to a great character cast and a superb animation.

Usually, when you encounter harem animes, the first thing you'll ask is, did it come from a visual novel or a H-game? 90% of the chances, you're right. Even so, amidst all the harem animes that have been released this year, I would dare say D.C.II.S.S has made the mark, and surpassing my expectations.

Firstly, if you haven't watched Da Capo before, you might get a bit confused. Nonetheless, I felt it was a smooth transition from D.C.II, and they made it a point to state key information (like the never withering sakura trees) repeatedly, so someone who has never watched the series before is still able to grasp what the story is about. Animation wise, I felt it was rather smooth. Personally, I liked the construction of the characters, because they are able to depict clear expressions of happiness or sadness, confusion or exhilaration from their face alone.

The story takes place on Hatsunejima where there is a magical sakura tree that was created by sakura's grandmother, and will not wither. It grants wishes to people who truly wish for it, but it has its flaws as well. It runs basically on the basis on the connection between the magical sakura tree and the male protagonist, yoshiyuki sakura. I felt that the continuation from D.C.II was smooth and it was easy to understand. The scenario wasn't too extravagant and somewhat believable, and the development was fast and enjoyable. I thoroughly enjoyed the middle parts of the season, where the development of relationships between characters heighten. The only qualm i have is with the slightly anticlimatic ending, but that's just my personal view. All in all, the story was interesting and enjoyable.

Soundwise, I was very pleased by the background music, especially when it came to the ending episodes, where it accentuated the anguish and sadness felt by the characters. Also, the seiyuus were pretty awesome, being able to inject emotions into their respective roles with sharpness. I personally liked the seiyuu for Otome (Ayahi Takagaki), whom I could totally relate to and immerse in her pool of emotions. There were quite a number of tear jerking moments due to her.

Needless to say, the characters were pretty well developed. You can see clear distinction between roles, but yet being able to harmonise together. Each person has their own personalities, and i could relate to the characters easily (the loneliness felt by anzu, the plight felt by otome etc). I would say it's the characters that played one of the biggest parts in the enjoyment of the whole series.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself through the season. Mainly, I was drawn into it by the story which was somewhat believable yet refreshing, the characters emotions and characteristics and also the beautifully designed characters and scenery. It's something I would watch again to tear on, and it's definitely something worth watching. The impression this show will leave is that relationships come and go, but if you wish hard enough, your dreams might just come true. It's been a pleasure watching, and I would dare say the best out of the four seasons!
