Itazurana Kiss, the story of a normal girl and her abnormal husband. The story is unique but the characters do not make sense and the dominant themes overused.

Based on 7 episodes (the high-school arc):

This short journey felt like a long one. So many ups and downs... but not in terms of my emotions or sympathies for the characters, but in terms of whether or not I could justify watching the next episode. Every so often, there would be a laughable moment or cute scene by the clumsy main character Kotoko as her unabashed love for Irie Naoki often sends her into bouts of further mindlessness.

On the other hand, we have probably the most frustrating 'clumsy girls' I've met. Itazura na Kiss has some of the most unbearable clumsy moments that I've ever seen. Moments that I have not even considered could happen in real life. Not only are they frustrating, they are also CENTRAL TO THE PLOT. Imagine having a house built of sticks, that is essentially what happened her. For 7 episodes, I had some good moments, but in the end it really came crumbling down. (Examples: Kotoko getting 'crowded' and then falling onto the track only to have Irie not see her and trip on her so that he can carry her to the nurse's office? Or how about Kotoko having appendicitis and then making Irie mess up and end up with her in college instead of the top university? Or how about Kotoko getting a cramp on a water slide so that Irie will save her? Or how about Kotoko 'blackmailing' Irie with childhood pictures of Irie in girl's clothing?) Lame. Peach Girl had better twists.

Like 99% of all shoujo manga/animes, this one is pretty predictable despite not knowing exactly what type of events the mangaka threw at the couple. Although I have not seen the rest of the series, I know there will be lots of the usual formulaic jealousy, competitors for love and attention, frustrations due to misunderstandings, Kotoko continued silent stubbornness for fear of bothering Irie, and perhaps even future occupation related woes. Finally in the end, it really seems like there will be a happy ending, despite all the bumps that lie in the road.

Really, for a shoujo romance anime like this, it isn't the ending, but the journey that you're supposed to enjoy in these types of series. Suffice it to say, I have a difficult time remembering any of the characters' names despite having just finished the 7th episode. In other words, because of the horrible premise that their feelings are built on (earthquake causes house to fall and subsequent move to house), I just couldn't get believe any of the emotions on the part of Irie.

Animation is pretty horrendous for the age, characters are undeveloped, and the story is uninspiring and lackluster. While I pretty much couldn't stand Itazura Na Kiss, I do see some positive merits, and a potential group that will love this series. For example, if you are a young girl who is in her own romantic crush with her out of reach guy, you may feel a bond with Kotoko. If you enjoy shoujo animes in general, or aren't too picky and haven't seen many animes... then this will probably be sufficient to get you through.

All in all, Itazura na Kiss brings nothing new to the table. For an anime that is so strongly reliant on a romantic relationship, I pretty much lost any interest for either character due to the horrible, convenient moments that are written in from the beginning. That is not to say some girls might not share a bond with this anime, so if you are female please ignore this review.

Itazurana Kiss is a very simple shoujo anime about the life of (surprise) clumsy girl who has fallen in love with an emotionless genius.

The two best things about Itazurana Kiss is that, one, it has no fillers (except for the last episode, uuh, it hurt), two, Kotoko's and Irie's personalities, like water and fire, make a really beautiful contrast. And that's pretty much everything for the good things. Otherwise, this anime presents nothing new to the old shoujo love-romance formula (no surprise as the manga was written in 1991). Girl falls for a cold guy, after some sort of coincidence they hook up, and then it's all love and bunnies. Though I must commend the author for never ruining Irie's personality, despite making him fall in love.

If you don't have anything to watch at the moment and you really want to live through some shoujo romances, well, Itazurana Kiss might be your pick, as well, as two hundred others. It's funny as long as you watch it, but you will start forgetting all about it the same day you have finished watching it.

This is a great romance anime that flows very much like Marmalade Boy, Maison Ikkoku, and His & Her Circumstances. It is a must watch if you like those shows. Basically, this show is about a girl who goes through many trials to finally get the guy she likes, and they continue on together overcoming obstacles and sharing special moments in life. Each character has their own personalities and it's great to see them grow throughout the show. There's plenty of laughter and genuine heart-touching moments and every episode brings something new to Naoki and Kotoko's relationship. The fun part is seeing how they handle it.
The opening and ending songs are catchy and memorable. Animation stands out with a particular style - sorta reminds me of Kimikiss or His & Her C. - so it could potentially be a turnoff for some viewers.
Itazura na Kiss is an anime for people looking for a great story and characters, who like "happy ending" shows, and enjoy romance with some comedy sprinkled along the way.
I highly recommend this - give it a try and see if you feel the same way.
2 thumbs up.

ItaNaKiss is definitely one of the better shows of its season. It is a slice-of-life based romance that spans a decade (I'm not joking) in time.

It is about a girl named Kotoko and her unyielding devotion to a guy she likes (one sided) despite his cold exterior and popularity with other girls.

It is a unique story that is well developed and full of interesting surprises. Definitely worth checking out.

This is one of the best romance-comedy anime i had seen so far. It makes u laugh til your stomach hurts and sometimes eyes brimming with tears.

The animation is beautifully drawn to the standard of any 2008 anime. I especially liked how u can tell the characters aparts easily, unlike other anime where by the characters' hair and faces looks the same to me.

The sound was pretty good, i can tell that the producer put in effort on the op and ending theme. The voice actors/actresses also put in emotion in their act.

The story was actually presented in many platform like TV drama, manga and anime. However i think the anime version really captures the beauty of the story. You just can't get enough of the anime and u will want to keep watching on and on. The ending is pretty... satisfying.

Th characters were throughly developed as they grow from highschool kids to adults. Old and insignificant character returns in later episode with significant roles. It's just great..

There's definitely value in this anime, i had already seen many other new anime copying part of its storyline. It's definitely worth watching

I enjoyed this anime to the last minute including the special episode. Watch it yourself to know.
