For some weird reason this anime(its trailer to be exact) appeared as one of those "Recommended for You" videos on youtube(which was weird because all i ever watch on youtube are nba high lights and korean starcraft). Now I've heard about its manga because my girlfriend read it, but I did not know that it had an anime. I didn't know it would be this good either(I mean come on, for those who don't normally watch "ecchi", they would know what I'm thinking). I basically started watching this anime out of randomness and boredom, and I expected myself to get some good laugh at how bad it was and eventually stop watching by the 3rd episode. Man was I wrong. For an "ecchi" anime, this anime has some other genres mixed in. The fight scenes were surprisingly awesome(though they can probably cut down musubi losing her clothes a bit--some tears here and there is sexy, but the entire piece? every single fight?), the characters though stereotypes are quite endearing(Ku-chan anyone? i thought she would be just some loli for the weird perverted mind but she's so cute; Tsukiumi with her stubbornness and pride but always succumbing to her affections for minato--not to mention her kick-ass design), and the story actually gets pretty intense(no, I'm not joking. it's intense to a point where this anime is as much an adventure/action anime as it is an "ecchi"). So for those who like ecchi, they definitely won't be disappointed since there are plenty. For those who are wondering if they should watch, I say give it a chance because it's surprisingly good. It is an ecchi anime but categorizing it as that is kind of unfair because this anime has more to offer than just that. One small complaint is they didn't drag out the anime out more(usually a bad thing--i hate when anime series drag out longer than it needs to be but with so much content to work with, they could have easily gotten a couple more episodes) so now we have to wait forever for a second season seeing how they've almost caught up with the manga.

Sekirei is the tale of Sahashi Minato, a young man that has failed the college entrance exam twice. One day, a young woman named Musubi comes into his life. She is a Sekirei, endowed with superhuman strength and endurance. She makes a pact with Minato by kissing him, and he becomes her trainer or Ashikaba. Shortly after they meet, they move into an apartment complex where several other Sekirei live.

Sekirei are a family of birtds in Japan. The Sekirei in this storyline are distinguishable from humans by the bird logo witht the yin-yang symbol in quotes beneath it.

This is an interesting anime which manages to combine Fate Stay Night master-servant into light fighting anime.

Sekirei was a fun anime, very heavy on the ecchi. Ended up making it one of the funniest i've ever watched. As long as you don't hate alot of ecchi and slightly over-used character personalities you should enjoy this. It does have some unique aspects.

Sekirei is the anime adaptation of its manga of the same name. A typical harem anime, where another useless hero has numerous girls loving and fighting for him.

The animation is decent, following the manga designs faithfully, the cute expressions by Kusano is also something that is better than the manga counterpart. One big problem with the animation though, is that whenever an anime is shown in HD, any imperfections will be magnified 10 times. This is easily seen in Sekirei as the qualities fluctuatesa a lot and on the worse animation, you can see the crude drawings and outlines very easily.

The voice cast are mostly composed of relatively newcomers to the industry. It is surprising to see Romi Paku in a relatively minor role (at least in this first season) and the only really notable seiyuu that is not a supporting cast is Marina Inoue as Tsukiumi. While the voice acting is pretty good consider the cast, I think that adding one or two veteran would certainly give off a much better chemistry between the characters.

The major problem for Sekirei in terms of story and character development is that it catches up to the manga very quickly. I find it shocking that they would produce a full anime when the manga has just barely gotten into the main storyline. As a consequence, the anime ends (with a hint on a second season) just when the story was getting to a high point, not because of poor judgement, but because it has already caught up to the manga storyline. The characters suffer also because the manga is still developing the characters, so the anime version would just water it down even more. If only the storyline is more established, we would probably see a full 26 episode season instead of this chopped up 12 episodes.

Overall it is a decent harem anime, but certainly not anything memorable, especially when it ends at the high point on the story.
