A guy drinks a soda and it suddenly turns into a hot girl! Add in the fact that the guy is a perverted high schooler and throw in a bunch of other akikans and you've got a comedic harem.

Sadly, despite my strong initial interest in the great potential that the series could have become, the series takes a very apathetic plot sequence and doesn't do justice to either the characters or the overall theme. There are plenty of large plot holes and things that should have been explained that the production studio decided to just leave as is.

The nature of the show is a combination of comedy, romance, ecchi, and action, with an emphasis on the comedic/ecchi aspect. The storyline can be understood by a 5 year old and the linear progression is quite appalling.

There are much better harems/mysteriously-appearing girlfriend series out there. Unless there is absolutely nothing else to watch, I'd avoid this one.

After watching the chihiro sub of this series I am left wondering why I watched it. The characters are weak, the plot is pathetic and the ending is lame.

Akikan (Japanese for empty can) is the tale of Daichi Kakeru, a pervert that opens up a can of melon soda one day and it turns into a pretty girl. The girl that likes him, Tenjuki Najami, gets her own Akikan when she opens a can of a sports drink named Yell. Add to this a perverted older guy in love with Kakeru, two kawaii girls, one of which is an Akikan (Budako,) Koichaze Hirika, who is in love with Najimi, and then Amaji Goro, who calls himself "Gigalo" and loves Hirika.

The Akikan, we're told, are supposed to fight each other, but Kakeru has other plans for Melon.

Akikan is about empty pop cans that turn into girls that call the owner of the pop can master and then put into a fight to the death to see who reigns supreme. Sounds familiar? That's because it follows the same old tried and true story for these type of harem anime.

One immediately problem it has is the availabity of HD. Like I said before in other anime, going HD is only going to hurt the anime if you don't have the quality to back it up. Akikan is a prime example where it should've stayed in SD format. In HD there's really a lack of detail, its animation is anything but fluid and its choice of colouring is bland.

The voice acting is decent considering it has Fukuyama Jun and Noto Mamiko in it. But its first OP theme is probably one of the worst (if not the worst) anime OP theme I've ever heard. Maybe this is one reason that it was changed midway to another one for a 12 episode series.

The story is really a big let down. The premise sounds interesting if not promising. With Kakeru having a really interesting back story, it really could have set something up into a cool story. But somehow this was forgotten and wasn't mentioned or used again and really makes the ending into another one of those forgettable crap.

Same goes for the characters, most of them are all stock characters that can be copied from almost any harem anime you can imagine. The "canned" girls while a little bit interesting really didn't got a chance to develop at all. And the end boss villain just did not have much screen time for us to really see what she is capable of.

Overall, this is really a waste of time. With awkward stories, jokes that are not funny and a lame ending, it's actually pretty hard to find something good out of this anime series.

very good indeed... not excelent... but really funny and enjoyable... recommended! the comedy is really great, its just that the main character is too perverted... but aside from that its great, the storyline is quite dull though, but the anime is great if you want to watch a short one and funny

Basically, I'm just reviewing this because I saw it all and saw no one else had reviewed it yet. Although ecchi at times, it is a fun situational comedy. It is far from a must see but has its moments.

The basic premise is that certain vending machine cans have been bestowed with the ability to turn into cute girls and been given the destiny to fight each other to determine the greatest drink.
