Sengoku Basara is a 12 episode show by Production IG taking place during the Warring States period - roughly 1550, I can't be bothered to check up exactly - and featuring a variety of characters from the time. It chronicles the resistance against Oda Nobunagas attempt at conquering the entirety of Japan. However, do not expect either historic fidelity or any attempt at such. This show is made after a game, and supposedly made even more ridiculous by way of the conversion.

Animation:
Visual quality is as is to be expected of PIG with fluid, complex animation and detailed drawings.

Sound:
The VAs appear to have found the show just as ludicrous as everyone else, and can barely hide their amusement. Well done. Great music, especially when Oda Nobunaga shows up.

Story:
The story isn't creative. A little fictionalized history, nothing impressive.

Character:
The characters are mostly parodies of the people that they are supposed to represent. Some of them work gloriously, like Takeda Shingen, Oda Nobunaga or Date Masamune, but others are fail by comparison. Kenshin could have been more impressive and his girlninja was too far out there.

Value:
Nice animation and good subs to choose from, but otherwise nothing that great. Some scenes are stellar though and hard to forget - prologue in ep 9 for instance.

Enjoyment:
This show tries, like for instance TTGL, to define the word "manly". However, in contrast to TTGL, this is not Shounen. It's as hectic and physics-defying as the rest of the lot, but all the while more mature and much cooler. Also, unlike the former, it is far better at creating atmosphere. The powerful music, the epic drawings and the dialogue all create great scenes for the viewer. This show will probably polarize, either you have great distaste for the way it tells the story and drop the show before finishing an episode, or you are swept along by the rule of cool.
