| Animation is really great, but not extraordinary. However, it really suits the story. The characters physical bodies seem to perfectly match who they are as human beings. Also, the lead girl is really pretty, and the guy is quite handsome, but to the point where they are both completely believable characters.
Sound is exceptional. The Opening Credit song is in English, and the graphics behind it seem to communicate with the message of the song. It brings the mood of the anime forth. Also, it positions the perfect songs at the perfect moments. The soundtrack really adds to the visuals. The Ending Song is in Japanese and has a moving paper background behind it.
The story is what really makes this anime the very best though. A very original storyline about characters given money to change the world and how they handle it. I would say the story is what makes this anime, but really everything about it is exceptional. It focuses on one of these characters, the handsome Takizawa. This anime has a strong political message about war and different themes about people in it.
Characters come from all backgrounds, but are completely believable as average, everyday human beings. Saki is a very loveable, just out of college girl. Takazawa is a very admirable guy who will have all the girls interested. Her friends are completely average people who just happen to fall upon extraordinary circumstances.
This anime is only 11 episodes long. I hope that it stays that way and ends up to anime as Faulty Towers was to British comedy. You have the time to watch this, and if not, make it. If this was the brand new anime that you refused to watch because it sounded obscure or done before, think again. This is a diamond in the rough, and it will have you hooked watching it. The best thing to happen to anime in a long time.

| Eden of the East is a 11 episode drama anime released in 2009. It features a storyline which is rather complex and contains several twists in its short length, and as a result has received very mixed feelings from viewers.
Eden of the East is produced by Project IG, and as a result its graphics, animation, and character designs are top notch. CG rendered scenes appear frequently, all to a very high standard of quality. The graphics and animation are also interesting at times, with moments of unexpected yet amusing censorships taking place. Overall, Eden of the East is highly impressive in its visuals.
Initially, the theme songs in Eden of the East appear to be extremely random and out of place, but this gradually changes over time and it reflects the darker and random events of the story. However, I personally still dislike the soundtrack. The background music fit in with the scenes, but are by no means memorable in any way. The voice actors in Eden of the East are not the most experienced or prized out there, but they do a good job and the voice acting is enjoyable.
The general opinions on the storyline in Eden of the East can be very mixed. On the one hand, there is an overall story that spans the entire 11 episodes which is rather complex and brooding and contains several interesting twists. On the other hand, there are frequent moments where decisions are made by key characters or groups of characters, all of which are often predictable, unrealistic, or just plain silly. These awful decisions are what ruined many moments for me, significantly damaging the enjoyment and entertainment value of the anime. Apart from the general storyline, Eden of the East has a number of comical moments, which are always a welcome addition, and the development of the story is well executed.
For an anime of 11 episodes, Eden of the East has a cast which, apart from the two main characters, changes quite frequently. This results in several interesting characters coming and going without much development if any, wasting the high potential of the cast. In fact, apart from the lead character, none of the remaining cast receives much in terms of character development. Despite this, Eden of the East still has very entertaining and interesting characters. Ignoring their occasionally awful decisions, the anime has a very strong cast indeed.
Length is another area that lets Eden of the East down. At 11 episodes, Eden of the East leaves a lot to be desired. Presentation is not one of the areas to be desired, as Eden of the East is very impressive in this regard. For viewers who can overlook the occasional stupidity from the characters, and who don't mind a shortage of character development, Eden of the East will no doubt rank very high on their list. Personally, I would put Eden of the East on my list of anime to recommend. But, it will not remain there for a very long time.

| Eden of the East does a very good job at portraying the differences between people. While most other stories portrayed the "Good vs. Evil" fight as a simple black and white affair, Eden does a remarkable job at removing those lines and turning everything into different shades of gray.
By episode two, the viewer is kept continually at the edge of the seat, wondering what else (what worse?) could happen. Every new episode adds on to the action as the stakes are continuously upped, as answers are given to the previous questions, only to lead to more puzzles.
All in all, Eden of the East is one of the best anime of year 2009, if not the sole champion. If there is a representative series for 2009, I highly recommend Eden.

| I'm reviewing this just after watching the last episode.
Trying to reveal as little as possible, it's basically about some people who have been granted massive funds to 'save Japan'; it concentrates mainly on the mysteries surrounding one guy, Akira, and his romance with a girl Saki.
This series started off intriguing both in terms of action and drama; also, the animation is both good and unique. Yet, it started to fall a bit flat with some cheesiness. The ending seemed rushed and overblown. I'd still recommend this, especially to anyone who wants some anime without lots of ecchiness or super powers but still appeal to both sexes.

| A Very Good anime series. At first sight it is very unusual, but it gets better and better. Animation and sound are beautiful but nothing extraordinary. The best of it is the character and story, even though at the end of things are pretty much vague. It's fun and very enjoyable. Very recommended.

| Higashi no Eden is best described as a polit-thriller aimed at a female audience, and I find the Drama tag here very misleading. While saturated with drama aspects, thriller aspects overweigh.
Animation:
Production IG high quality. Few drops. Complex movements, beautiful artwork.
Sound:
Great VAs, absolutely awesome OP, decent ED, but little music inbetween.
Story:
Yes. Well. First, this show was made by most of the staff which also did the Ghost in the Shell adaptions. It touches upon similar topics, but from a very different perspective. I won't delve into a discussion of the show's point of view, or what I suspect that would be, but it makes for a bit of thinking at least. The reason why I have rated a perfectly good story with an interesting setting comparatively badly is because I feel the show missed the punchline (incidentally, there are two movies coming out...). At any rate, it seems a lot of what the creators want to get across has either passed me by or hasn't been told yet - I'm leaning increasingly towards the latter - so the show appears a bit... intellectually bloated to me right now. It puffed itself up to a shape it couldn't sustain with meaningful content. However, naturally this is open to change if the two movies cover this.
Character:
Akira and Saki make for cool protagonists. The rest isn't too stunning, but never boring. The colourful Selecao are great.
Value:
This show is very unusual, both in artwork and story. It aired in true HD quality, there are plenty of good subs to choose from and it generally makes for good archive content.
Enjoyment:
Despite its shortcomings, I think this was the best show for Spring 2009 and one of the better shows of recent time. Should the described lackings be corrected in the movies, this show might be one of the best I've ever seen.
