Hayate the Combat Butler 2nd Season is a 25 episode sequel to the popular Hayate the Combat Butler anime, released in 2009. The 2nd Season accomplishes what every sequel should, and improves on the original series with more homour, romance, and everything else.

The graphics and animation of the 2nd Season is no different than the first season. This means the quality has not degraded, and the 2nd Season is excellent on the eyes. There is also a noticeable increase of exaggeration in the facial expressions of the characters, which would increase the humour and enjoyment of the anime to use viewers, but might also make the anime appear overly childish. Regardless, the 2nd Season is a pleasure to watch.

In contrast to the first season, the theme songs in the 2nd Season are not all performed by the well known anime artist Kotoko. This does not degrade the quality of the songs however, although the style of the tunes are quite different. In a way, the new songs fit in very well with the story of the 2nd Season, which is more focused on the romantic aspects in the anime. The voice actors have not changed, and as a consequence the characters still sound unique and excellent. Hayate the Combat Butler 2nd Season, similar to the first season, is also very impressive in its sound.

Since the first season of Hayate the Combat Butler was heavily focused on character development, the 2nd Season is able to build on that and develop its storyline significantly more. Containing plenty more romance, comedy, and plot twists, the 2nd Season of Hayate the Combat Butler is highly enjoyable to follow. Occasionally, some episodes might appear to be repeating the same theme as previous episodes, but they all work out differently and interestingly. There are still some episodes which may be seen as fillers, but they are not less enjoyable by any amount. The season ends on somewhat of a cliffhanger, so a 3rd Season of Hayate the Combat Butler will be coming.

Thanks to the solid character development from the first season, the 2nd Season of Hayate the Combat Butler manages to develop its storyline a lot more than what otherwise would be possible. New characters are introduced, but all at relatively late stages of the anime, for use in the next season rather than this one. Since the voice acting hasn't changed, all characters sound excellent and are incredibly fun to watch.

Although at a shorter length of 25 episodes, the 2nd Season of Hayate the Combat Butler does not fall behind in its quality one bit, and in many ways seems to offer more than the longer first season. Containing a lot more romance and comedy, the 2nd Season will not disappoint fans of Hayate the Combat Butler, or any viewer who enjoys anime containing romance and comedy. For me personally, Hayate the Combat Butler is one of my favourite anime series, and I cannot wait to watch the third season.

The much awaited 2nd season of Hayate is finally here after the surprisingly entertaining 52 episodes first season. With this comes with some notable changes though, namely a different animation company (JC Staff instead of Synergy SP) and a different director. Will these changes be the downfall of this 2nd season?

Because of the new animation company, you can definitely see the differences between the first and second season. The art style and the color palette feels "softer" and the characters look cuter and in some way, slightly less comedic. I won't say that this is bad because this is done to compliment the story direction of this season, but I do notice some quality inconsistencies in a few episodes. While good, I do feel it is not as good as first season.

This series continues to bring in big name seiyuu for cameos, this season we have Horie Yui, Kawasumi Ayako as well as Tamura Yukari in some new roles for this series. KOTOKO still has a new OP for the series, but the ED themes are now done by character songs instead.

The 2nd season comes a big change in its story. It tries to move big in line with the manga storyline as the first season just drifts off into randomness around episode 20. This time, it finally has an overall storyline where we finally see some relationships move forward and characters developed. This is both good and bad, the good is that there's more story and character development, the bad is that while there are still parodies and hidden jokes, they are way less than the ones in first season because of its focus on the story.

We also finally see a lot of character development, though not so much for Hayate himself, surprisingly. It's Nishizawa and Hinagiku gots the most screen time in terms of giving their characters more depth and dimension. There's also a few good stories for Nagi, but I feel that the scenes about her are a bit generic and predictable, and not contain as much impact as Hinagiku.

Overall it's actually a bit hard to compare the two seasons as they are quite different from each other in terms of its themes and story developments. But overall the series still retains its charm and character while adding more depth to its story. Hopefully there will be a third season where we'll finally see A-tan!!!
