| Overall, Please Save My Earth is an anime I would only recommend to those who either:
1) Like to look at pretty pictures and only get a feel of the plot
-or-
2) Like to ponder on their own what the answer to life's questions are.
It has some good elements in it, and as much as I love it, I am afraid not everyone will like it. There is just too much missing for it to be enjoyed to its fullest extent. I never said it isn't enjoyable though. It all blends exquisitely for those who know how to draw from different layers of a deep anime, even if the layers are seemingly thin.

| The reason I watched this is because I love the ending song and because it's short. I know it has a promising story but so many factors makes this anime less enjoyable, I'll discuss them one by one but let me talk what the plot is about first.
There are these high school students who shares the same dreams of being in another life, later they realize that these dreams are not just dreams but reality, it was the life they had in the past. Everyone of them is a scientist from another planet who died of an incurable disease.

| Please Save My Earth OVA is sadly a purely condensed version of the manga. Such a pity, too. They picked out all the more relevant important scenes and put it in this OVA. At the end of episode 4 (of 6) in the OVA, the manga equivalent would be around the beginning of volume 4 (of 12 bunko version). Fitting the whole ending so quickly really detracts from this manga's great storyline. Also, this OVA skips out a lot of the important character development and interactions between the more lesser of the 7 characters that really build the whole atmosphere in the manga. We don't get to see how all the sides of life on the moon and how the characters felt in both times of happiness and despair.
However, what I love about this OVA is how they spend a great amount of time developing the beginning of the manga in this OVA in good detail. At this great pacing, this could have easily been a successful 13 episode series. I really loved the storyline and the whole reincarnation theme. The original manga theme of "Will our past life forever dictate our future life?" is totally awesome to watch unfold as making parallels between the two worlds. However, in this OVA they spent a little too much time in the present, and not enough in the past, which has the meat of the story and the root of all character developments.
I watched this OVA concurrently while reading the manga. I would read 1-2 volumes and then watch the episodes tha t matched the same storyline. The animation and music of this anime form enhances the overall enjoyment many-fold. The music is beautiful, the voice-acting really gives some character, and since there is so much dialogue in the original manga, it makes the intricate storyline a lot clearer and easier to understand.
By itself, this OVA is enjoyable in its own right (except for the rushed ending). However, as a supplement to the complicated manga, this OVA is priceless. The combination of the great storyline in the manga and the great sensory experience from this OVA allows "Please Save My Earth" to be enjoyed fully.

| PSME is one of those rare animes that hold a real value but still are unknown to most of the anime fans, one of those animes that should have been famous, but somehow missed the chance.
The Animation was splendid, clean, detailled, just the way I like it, as it seems I have a soft spot for the 1992-1997 animation style, when people made the drawings, not CG.
The sound was apropiate for it's age and the voice acting was done in good terms.
Even dough the story doesn't explain everything, it still does a lot more than most 12 episode animes. It manages to create a vivid image of the two timeframes and the reincarnated characters, it throws a few surprising twists of plot and in the end it finishes, in my opinion, in the best way it could have, concentrating more on the inner feelings and connecting the two destinies, then on a final action showdown as I originally expected. But still, I know this story could have been better if it had 12 episodes... it's quite rare as an anime to suffer from to few episodes, since most mainstream animes have more than needed episodes.
The characters were great, especially the little kid.. but still they could have been more developed, if it only had more episodes in which to explain the connection between the reincarnated teenagers and mr Tamura, the Tokyo Tower plot...
I could find reasons for this missed train, such as the fact that it doesn't have fanservice, maybe it never had the publicity to make it known to the public, or maybe it' because this show was subminated by it's small size that could never hold and relevate all the beautiful elements of the original manga.

| PSME as well as ISIB (Ima Sokoni...) can awake a reviewer in everyone - which can easily be seen by length and style of reviews done here. After seeing this anime again I can say - it's no wonder.
PSME has a story so captivating it really puzzles me. I can hardly say why it is so great, I can only say that I was taken in from first episode.
I often heard that 13 episodes is too little to do anything in anime. That is proven VERY wrong here, in PSME, where six episode are enough to tell a story of love and betrayal so great that it awakens madness just at a reminder of it.
It is a story about leading normal life, all while remembering Your past ones. It's showing us so interesting characters, that it's a shame we get to see so little of them. I want to see more. More. MORE. MORE!!!
This anime is very mature. Very unique. Very original. I cannot say it's THE BEST. But I deem it one of the best ever seen. It evokes my feelings just when I'm remembering it, when I see it it's even better!
Enjoyment 10, and surely You don't need to read More for me to say that You won't regret watching it. It's done amazingly well. It truly is one of those anime that really are CHARACTER-driven.

| PSME was one of my first dramatic anime, and when I first saw it, I was struck by the amazing music and complex storyline. About 2 years ago, I had the opportunity to acquire the movie (a shortened version of the 6 episode OAV), and I did, only to discover that this anime managed to do the impossible - live up to its own expectations.
I would say that I enjoy the PSME music more now than when I first heard it. The complex story makes more of an impression on me now than it did when I was 14 yrs old. This is an incredible anime and remains one of my favourites despite having seen many wonderful anime.
The animation is certainly nothing to gawk at. It is pretty and has a somewhat dream-like quality at times while being a bit severe at others. The colours are a bit more muted than the animation of recent years, and that lush quality so present in many great anime is definitely missing here. However, that is not to say that all is bad. The characters are nicely drawn, and there is a definitely contrast between the simple qualities of the earth characters and the slightly more intricate qualities of the moon scenes. Overall, the animation wouldn't fall into the same category as Gankutsuou or the like, but it is quite nice nonetheless.
As for the sound, Yoko Kano is in stunning form here. The music is beautiful and so evoking of the story. I find myself listening to the soundtrack and remembering all the feelings the anime evoked. The intrumentals are fantastic, but in my opinion, the standout song was definitely Memory Of The Times, possibly one of the best anime songs of all time. I think this soundtrack is more than worthy of the 10 I gave it.
The story and characters pose a bit of a problem as far as review writing goes. On the one hand, both are great, but both are imcomplete without the help of the manga. As a standalone product, the story and characters are all underdeveloped. There is so much potential for more here. That is, however, not to say that there was no development as that would be unfair. For a six episodes OAV, there was an absurd amount of information crammed in. However, considering the complexity of the story and the length of the manga, there just could have been so much more that was done.
Overall, I would say that, if you're willing to forgive a somewhat incomplete story, this is a must-watch anime. Though I've seen dozens of anime shows following this one, I'm still searching for something that matches in complexity and sound. While I wouldn't venture to say that nothing out there is of this caliber, I just haven't come across anything that I've enjoyed more than PSME, though I have come across some of the same enjoyment level.

| Awesome gripping 6 part OAV. I watched with no brake from start until finish and was never remotely anxious about doing something else besides enjoing this fabulous anime. Not going in too much detail, but the cleverness of this show.. extraordinary. All the set-ups and payoffs.. wow! Many seem to argue the anime's worth to be diminished by the relatively short duration of the series. Leaving various characters immediate future untold etc. However I guess some of that criticism to be adequate, but in general I rather have this somewhat "open" series than a long runner with a lot of screen time depicting material more or less already understood (between cuts that is).
Sound both reminds of the later Escaflowne (also the brilliant Yoko Kanno) and the less 'fantasy' counterparts. Animation aged in a good way, mainly built upon the standard type of angles: a lot of panoraming, zoom outing. The run of the mill animation. Wings of Honneiamaise functioning as a close compare, not entirely though. Standard charachters, looking either as Aoki from Rurouni Kenshin (or Sakuya from Kaikan Phrase) or something out of a urban-based naruto kind of thing (lack of words ^^). Characters getting an 8 mainly because of the limited playtime and therefore lacking lenghty presentation (except for one or two persons).
Strongly recommended.

| When you outgrow your clothes, its only common sense to go out and get bigger clothes. The same sense certainly wasn't applied to PSME, whose story would have fit better in a size 12, 13, or 24 (episodes, of course). In fact, the issue of it being too short is probably the cause of any other problems that I could think of about this anime.
For example, a longer series, probably TV, would have acquired a larger budget. True, this is pretty good animation for when it was released, but it certainly isn't any comparison to the stuff we have today. Thank god for computer animation. Still, this old school style certainly has that nostaliga feel.
The sound contained some of the best instrumental soundtrack that i've heard for an anime. The voice acting wasn't too bad either, and no voices were annoying.
As previously mentioned, the story certainly was too big for its britches. The story was set up to be so complex, and presented so well that I already could tell that this was gonna get a high rating by the end of the first episode. To be honest, I truly wanted to give this a ten, but realism forced me not to. The problem was the ending, which, because of the size, left many of the plotlines out in the open. A longer series would have been able to take the full potential of the love stories, the revenge stories, all the past stories and the background of the aliens. Still, with this and more plotlines in this anime, don't be fooled: the main plot is still focused around Rin.
That being said, Rin is also the best developed character in the series, winning both the most screentime and most backstory. His development could also be seen with his relation with Alice as well as the comrades of the past. Of course, all of the characters in this anime were great, its just that the cast was so large that the time constraint issue comes up again. Many of the interesting ones were swept off into minor roles as the good development continued on the main ones. One thing to make note of: DO NOT SPACE OUT while watching this. You're likely to miss either some critical story or character information.
Overall, I could certainly watch this again, if just to see if I've missed any such information. I also had no problem continuing to the next episode, I was so entertained and entralled you would have had to cut the power to keep me from finishing it. Yep, and you can consider the manga read, its certainly intriqued me enough to look for it. If you want a complex story, by all means, watch this.

| Who should watch:
People who wants to watch something with an intricate story with subtle and complex character relationships.
Who should avoid:
People who can't stand emotional stuff/have no emotions, and cannot handle unanswered questions.
Comments:
First of all, I would like to say that the anime feels incomplete (which it is, relative to the manga version). I haven't have the chance to get my hands on the manga (but I really want to after I've watched the anime), but this anime covers only a little less than half of the manga series. As such, there are still a lot of unanswered questions and unresolved issues at the end of the 6 episodes. But what I've seen draws me totally into the story. I sincerely hope that some studio will pick up and continue the work to create a second series based on the remainder of the manga to bring the story to the finale that it deserves.
I can't help it but feel that this is a really special anime. The story is a very intricate balance of suspense, mystery, as well as warmth and emotional. Especially of interest is the relation/conflict between the 7 main characters and the memories of their previous incarnations. There are quite a lot of delicate and subtle details given to some of the characters. For example, Enju (one of the female alien), who was in love with Gyokulan (a male alien) but the love was unrequited. When they were reincarnated, Enju chose to become a male (Issei), so that he(she) can be with Gyokulan (Jinpachi) forever as best friends of the same sex and thus would not be troubled by the latter not returning the love. But in the end, when the memories came back to him(her) in the moon dreams, the memories/emotions of Issei the man becomes difficult to separate from that of Enju the woman. The woman trapped in the man's body faced a worse emotional turmoil than ever before, unable to escape from her love of Gyokulan even though she has become a man. I think that the amount of attention paid to the details are really astounding. Really makes me pine for the manga series. If only I can read Japanese :( , since the english version is so slow that it will probably take a long, long time to complete.
Another high-point of this anime is the music, which is simply amazing, especially the intensely nostalgic ending song. It was only after I did a little research after that when I found out that one of the people responsible for the music is Ms Kanno Yokko, who never fails to impress me with her freedom of expression in all kinds of music, unlike those composers who quickly fell into and get stuck in fixed pattern. Even if you don't watch the anime for the story and such, the music alone is worth it! I think there are at least 3 soundtrack CDs, which can be ordered from many online stores.
All in all, I'm not really satisfied with this series only because it is so good and yet somewhat unfinished. An anime makes people go all over the place to hunt down the original manga usually speaks for itself, and I'm definitely sure I'm not the only one. Just a reminder from some info I've came across in my search. The artwork quality in the initial volumes in the manga is actually rather poor compared to the present norm. But the whole artwork improved over the whole series, so don't be put off by what you see in the early books, or you might miss the pearl covered by the straw.
Now, back to the lament: if only there is a second anime series that completes the story.... Isn't there something we can do to pressurize somebody who had the means to do something about it???

| Okay, first off, if you're going to watch PSME, realize it's the equivalent to a chick flick. This is why we call it SHOUJO anime. Now that we have that settled, yeah, they did compress the plot way too much, and you can probably understand more of it by watching the music videos. And yes, the manga is definately better, being what, 21 volumes?
However, that is not to say that PSME sucks. Traces of the plotline do carry on like the Titanic movie, and if you think about it, it's rather depressing to be stuck on a moon base with no home to return to, a growing 'paradise' in front of you that isn't attainable, and your friends dying all around you. All in all, that automatically gives PSME points over other happy-go-lucky shoujo anime, and adds to the sad yet beautiful backdrop music. Plus there's a little gender bending going on in the area of Issei and Jinpachi that's sure to please a few fangirls. Even if the end isn't quite what you desire, it's still a good watch.

| In the space of six episodes, PSME the OAV is supposed to recount a rather long plot. It was never going to succeed. The mere limitations of the series' length works against there ever being a truly satisfying conclusion to the whole thing.
And that is disappointing, because it certainly does build itself up quite well, as if the whole series is just going to go on forever, like many of those shoujo tv series with similar styles and themes. But it doesn't, and never again has it been attempted to make more of this, which is a pity. Just one or two years later the oav boom came to an end and tv anime was resurrected, in both style and content matter. Had PSME been considered during that time, it WOULD have been a tv series, no doubt about it in my mind.
It certainly deserved to be.
The music of this series is quite the most beautiful I can remember in my time as an anime fan, and one of the first soundtracks I actually bothered to get on cd.... I certainly recommend this to anyone who actually has musical taste.
In fact, I recommend this series to anyone who actually has taste. Those without it need not apply (notes certain review above). ^_-
