| Ever thought what a slice-of-life mecha show would be like? Neo Ranga is your answer.
Some part of me thinks that I should hate Neo Ranga. It seems really over-the-top, silly mecha show with annoying plot but then again it's so close to everyday life and has great characters that I can't help to cheer to them. The story is about three sisters who happen to come in possesion of a 30 meter biological mecha or in other words an ancient god, Ranga. The problem is that they live in Tokyo and the intelligent mecha is not about to leave them. Result: a new nation is born inside Tokyo. Eat your heart out Vatican! After this a lot things happen conflicting the tender balance between rest of Tokyo, the kingdom of girls and rest of the world. We get to follow how these girls go around their everyday life with a possible weapon of mass destruction parked at their yard and how nation's and world's politics revolve around this new situation.
One point making Neo Ranga special is its pace. The show is divided to 48 episodes of 15 minutes and while everything kind of happens slowly, the short episodes still make it feel fast paced enough to make easy to follow. There's also a great variety to the episodes: some of them are really light-hearted beach episodes and such, other quite tragic pieces and some just incredibly mixed them together and made me feel weird. Some of themes are just crazy like the xmas themed episode where Ranga goes around dressed as Santa and ends up fighting an enemy. The whole thing is extremely silly but the way the show presents these things always left me with a feeling that it could happen. The same goes to some more serious elements like religion or nationalistic uprising with appearance of Ranga.
The main characters are the sisters controlling Ranga, Ushio, Yuki and Minami. They are what makes this show actually work. They all seem pretty one-dimensional at first but as the series goes on new facets of their personalities come around. They are also very strong personalities and can easily dominate episodes by their uncertainty or burning feelings. To give short descriptions Minami is the mother figure of the family working hard for her younger siblings, Ushio is the kind girl with great sense of justice and Yuki is the youngest, most bitter sister with great sense of being right. The main theme in Neo Ranga is their mutual love as it seems to crack many times during the series but it really blossoms at the end and if left me with great after taste of the series. Otherwise the ending feels a bit weird as if the author wanted make the most grandious ending possible. That it certainly is but it also breaks a bit of the everyday angle the series had build until then. As for other characters Neo Ranga does a great job introducing a lot funny and complicated side characters that fill the 48 episodes nicely.
Neo Ranga offers some good animation for its age. It's quite fluid and detailed. The mecha desings are mysterious enough and especially Ranga's enemies look very imaginitive. Character designs are appealing and they do a good job enhancing the character personalities with expressive faces. The two opening songs are really great tribal pieces with ZOMG sort of animation of the main girls dressed in couple of straps of clothes, paint marks on their bodies and waving big weapons. I don't know if that is entirely appropriate since the series doesn't involve that much fanservice. It has a direct nature that refers to sex related stuff from time to time but it feels very natural and not forced. Background music is ok and voice actors do some spirited performances.
Neo Ranga is a very enjoyable show that despite the variety of themes it handles never loses a sort relaxed and content spirit behind. It has very likeable characters that make are fun and interesting to follow as life pushes them around.

| A series that is prone to being very pointless, very boring, and very false advertised.

| Although there are 48 episodes to Neoranga, each one is only 14 minutes long. From the start of the very first episode I found this series to be very compelling and engrossing. The animation and character design is very pleasing, with slightly toned down colours. Ranga is a wonderful looking creature, he reminded me of a very big dog mixed with a bit of Godzilla!
He has the most fantastic facial expressions and at times almost looked cute!! The music is one of the best features of the anime, both the opening themes are very haunting.
The story develops quite slowly to start with and the first part (24 eps) introduce the audience to the characters and the drama surrounding a huge "monster" invading Japan. The 2nd part of the story delves deeper into politics and religion and the origins of Ranga. The conclusion to the story is very satisfying in many ways and leaves you feeling good about the whole series.
There are one or two filler episodes, that were actually quite fun to watch but a bit daft and episodes 41 & 42 had obviously been animated by different people, as for just those 2 eps. the animation was extremely ugly and strange!
This is one of the nicest anime I have seen for a long time. I'm glad I finally stopped deliberating over this title and actually bought it.

| I really enjoyed this anime-- raised some interesting questions about the relationships of people to their governments and their religions though pretty much leaves you with complex and challenging ambiguities. Unusual situations and very creative story developments. Great OP music nice variety of characters and situations. DVD package and OP designs, while interesting make it look like it's a fan-service title which completely misrepresents what it is.

| This is a avg. good anime with a very show beginning, not much big events really happen until the end of the first season but it does gets pretty okay later on in the series.
The ending is a bit lacky, (but I guess its okay.) "I was hoping a bit more eps in the end to clearify so of the stuff with their "God" from space and the invaders and stuff." =P
The animation sometimes are okay, and sometimes just sux really bad even for a late 90's artwork!
The OP/ED songs and soundtracks are okay, "it has that native american toon to it." =)
Overall, a okay series, with some good action, but not so good animation, but its still a pretty avg. anime title. =)

| This anime was out in 1999 btw. ;)
Overall its not bad of an anime, but I have say theres some heavy narrating in the whole thing. At first I picked this up because I saw the concept design for the characters, it looked really good may I added. But on the series, the quity of the artworks change from time to time, for some eps, the quity of the art looked like what it suppose to but for some it sux.
The story is a good story, kind of goes belong just being a mecha action type anime. The character involvment are also great. Its ashame that too many people look into this series because no fansub group touched it.
Being a 48 eps series I would think more ppl would of rank this one. I think this anime way underrated and some of you guys should check it out.

| Muwahaha I have the whole series on DVD. Well I really don't think that it was worth the money I spalled down for it, though this series does prove to be interesting. By the reviews so far it seems to be little known.
i think that the way that this series is put to gether is a little strange, and at times very confusing, especially when getting to know the different words like Kyoshin and Suura which I still don't have a grasp of.
I guess overall I could say I liked it and I think that I will watch it over again.

| Neo Ranga starts off strong, then after a few eps go up and down between good and bad.
I really wanted to like this show and I still do, but each time I had either a problem with a character or two or the art.
The action scenes are great! But somewhere after the first few episodes the animation seems to drop then pick up then drop again.
I've only seen the first season. Maybe the season is better, hopefully.

| this show is such a mixed bag i have trouble recommending it...
the three sisters are cute and likable, and there is some decent action and gore, but i generally disliked this anime.
the animation is SO bad in some episodes i had to force myself to get through them. it was weird because some episodes were animated nicely, but every once and awhile you would be treated to some HORRIBLE animation...this made me angry. i hate when series are inconsistant like that.
the opening song is good, while the ending song is bad. the BGM is good.
i had high hopes for this back when i saw some promotional art for it, but the series itself is sadly lacking in many catagories. i can't recommened the purchase, but hey check out the first couple volumes to see if this show is for you. it wasn't my cup of tea...

| One of the nicest surprises I've ever received from anime; a show most people have never heard of that turned out to be one of my favorites.

| Each episode last about 14 minutes and surprisingly enough it lasted more then one season(most 14 minute shows don't), and who can blame them. NeoRanga takes the Godzilla storyline and adds a lot of orignal ideas and twists that's it's beyond great.
Character development are done well and the plot is so well done, not only that, but the the music is magnificence. From the tribal music to the thrilling score at dramatic times, everything about this anime is well round, that I'm surprised a lot more people don't grade this.
Even though the time is half to 14 minutes or so, but they handle it well, ending it perfectly almost.
The only thing that sucks about this is when it get's near the end, some of the characters were disfigure, and their were a lot of still shots. For a 14 minute show though they sure used their money well. If it wasn't for those two things at the end, this would of been a perfect 10 to me.
This is one of the very FEW anime I highly recommended that everyone will like.
