| I don't usually watch anime based around games, they always seem to be sorely lacking in most areas, but Arc The Lad is one exception to that rule!
It was very entertaining, starting off pretty light weight and ending on a much darker, good v. evil, level.

| The animation was pretty good to be 1999. Also the quality was pretty good, of course, the action scenes are not going to have shut great graphics as the new animes. The sound was not bad at all...(or maybe I am used to it after spending 2 weeks playing the game "Arc the Lad" without sleep). Also the voices where not annoying, which makes you want to mute the anime. ^^
The story is basically about good versus evil. The five spirits is the all mercifull sprites that loves everyone and forgives everyone. Darkness of course is the evil one. Also faith brought all of the together to fight against Darkness.
The characters well pretty good developed for an old anime. All the characters had their part agains the fight, specially Clive, whom I thought it was a pointless character until later on into the episodes. Also in away I felt sorry for him T . T
Overall, I really enjoyed watching this anime an recommend it to everyone to watch. Even if is not like the game... ^^

| This anime was kind of boring. The first 13 episodes were spent on developing 'Elk' however he doesn't have much personality. I mean, all the events that happen to him would be drastic, but this feeling isn't really conveyed to the viewer.
At first, I was thinking it might be like HxH, but not at all; I'm not sure what kind of anime this could be called. A story-telling anime of a world of different time, magic, world?
1) Characters bonds don't seem to be the main issue here... they arent that impacting
2) Not much drama except episode 13, which was pretty moving, but I bet if they developed more, it could have been :O imprinting.
3) Fighting is here, but they aren't that impressive at all. Just flash flash slash slash, hack..
4) They do go around and travel, but I wouldn't call this an adventure
5) A little romance and a little thoughtfulness, but nothing big.
Just a lot of wandering around anime... but not sure of what the aim is. (Even though that's what Elk is feeling, kind of )
Animation is mild. nothing too flashy, nothing too impressive, but not bad or horrible. sound is quite nice, but again nothing flash, nothing superb or impressive, just right. nice variety of music.
i didn't really hate this anime, but i didn't enjoy it either. its just zzz at parts... i would watch something else before watching this.
I guess there's just any lack of STRONG characters here.

| I accidentally bought the whole set and was really thinking that it's not that good, but I was wrong. It's not bad at all. It may not be as good as other great animes but still, I consider it as one of the most heart-pounding stories.

| It started off nice and it had a lot of potential.
The "arc the lad world" was at first interesting but after half of the series episodes i understood that it wasn't anything more than your average anime fantasy world.
The animation is simply awfull. The music is mediocre.
As for the story , the first half as i said before was quite good but in the last episodes became full of cliches "let's save the girl" and of course "stop the evil guy and save the world"
If you have time to waste and you love fantasy anime try it out

| When I first saw this series, after playing some of the excellent arc the lad game series, I expected so much. I expected a great cast, a great storyline, and some good music. What I got was, a bland undeveloped cast, so-so music, and an interesting yet at the same time boring anime series. The series started out good and had fans of the games like myself hooked, as we noticed comparisons to the game and show. However about midway through the series started falling apart. I don't know why this happened, but the quality and enjoyment seemed to fall. Overall Arc the Lad is a good series for fans of shows that are based on rpgs or adventure/fantasy series fans. But anyone else would probably not get past episode 2.

| Arc the Lad is the prefect anime of a rol game ( is exactly the opposite of Orphen ( in my opinion, orphen is like a pathetic rol game ) ). The story is interesting ( White House, chimeras, spirits, mistery, treason, revenge, a destroyed world, etc. ( sometimes is amzing, like when Erc finds Miruru ) ), but it isn't a prodigy, the animation is good ( but sometimes I dislike that kind of animation ( the edges are heavy ) ), the sound is acceptable, the character's personality are well defined ( and the stories of all of them are interestings ), and it is enjoy to see, but at the same time is not a outstanding anime ( however it is originaly ), maybe because it's design is not atractvie, but the story and the characters are excelent, if you can see this anime at all, do it.

| Sigh, i'm still reeling in a whirlpool of emotion over this one.
I cried, a lot, being a guy it's not exactly the most masculin thing to admit however, Arc the Lad just won't let anyone go. Espectially when you're sensitive to sad stories.
And _this_ is a sad story, but never fear! It's also a happy one, the balance between the sad and happy is perfect. The next time you're with your SO, sit down and watch it together! You'll want to turn to them and give them a big HUG once in a while and perhaps share a tear.
Every aspect is covered here: regret, hate, anger, pain, sorrow, love, happiness, hindsight, apathy, empathy, selfishness, ROMANCE and of course: courage.
The challanges that both Elk and Arc have to go through to truely discover themselves is simply amazing. While Arc may seem like a stoic, hard rock, we learn that he too, has failings. Elk's path, while filled with so much grief is the progression of someone with a heart too big to handle, even for himself.
You'll never ever want to be in either of their shoes.
Recomendation: BUY IT, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, BUY IT.
Who this is not for: People with no sense of love or compassion, who don't like sad stories and last but not least, those without a steady supply of tissues!

| An average fantasy/adventure show based on some game series which I had not heard before this.
There's nothing out of common in the areas of animation or sound (well, the opening theme really sucks). The story is quite good, advancing effectively through each episode, but near the end it really gets kinda boring. Offers very very little below the surface, clearly a show which is based on a game. First 13 episodes were really good. The ending offers no drastic twists in the storyline, it was very predictable and thus, sucked. In addition to the story, also characters offered few good points, but none of which would rise this series out of the slimy sea of average anime shows.

| typical crap. The story just drags on and on soley by making the characters to stupid things. If I were the writer, I'd shoot myself. This anime gets really obnoxious when the characters do stupid things, like disreguard all useful and good advice and be absolutely careless while the other characters just sit there and let themselves be put in danger. Or when the girl goes screaming, Elk! for five minutes because she's in danger (and she places herself in danger, probably for the sake of the story, because the writer can't think of any way of making it more interesting). There are the aweful annoying flashbacks to childhood with the horrible child voices, incredibly mindless story.. Elk's stupid actions is what makes this series drag on. What should have been handled quickly and intelligently was totally screwed due to stupidity, which is incredibly frustrating to watch..
overall, this anime is bad and one does not miss out by not watching..

| This anime surprised me a lot. It's much better than I have thought. I can't belief that an anime based on a videogame could be so good. The story is really dramatic and atrocious (experiments with children). My god, I'll never forget what happens in episodes 12-13. This is NOT for kids.
The plot has a very good pace, lots of action and got me hook until the end. There are lots of characters and most of them are great, specially the two protagonists: Elk and Arc. But Toshu, Shu and others are cool too.
Drawings aren't bad, but there are lots of stills and scenes with crappy animation. Music is simple but matches with the events perfectly.
I didn't like a few characters, which were very simple, or the last part of the story, about the darkness which engulfs everything... :P
But this series is really good. Try it because is very enjoyable.

| Ein durch und durch überdurchschnittler Anime. Arc the Lad hat alles was das Herz des Ottonormal-Fantasyfans höher schlagen lässt und bietet eine solide Story sowie Charaktere die einen für diese Serie begeistern und auch bis zum finalen Showdown für Spannung zu sorgen wissen. Ich selbst hatte am Anfang zwar hier und da noch Schwierigkeiten da es zu Beginn in punkto Storyverlauf noch etwas holprig zu Werke geht und die Charaktere noch nicht sehr viel Innovationen mit einbringen, doch ab der Mitte der Serie konnte Arc the Lad das Ruder zu seinen Gunsten für mich herumreissen und ließ mich dank einer gehörigen Portion Tragik und besser werdender Action bis zum ziemlich zufriedenstellenden Ende mitfiebern. Es heisst zwar immer das Animes die auf Videospielen basieren eher enttäuschen aber ich behaupte in diesem Fall das Gegenteil und der Anime hat bei mir sogar das Interresse an den Games geweckt. Abschließend bleibt mir nur noch zu sagen das Arc the Lad zwar in keinem Punkt wirklich neues nie dargewesenes darbietet aber dennoch den Stimmungspegel aufrecht erhält und jedem Fan von Fantasy-Anime und/oder RPG´s ans Herz gelegt werden kann. (Fans der Games sowieso!)

| I watched this anime pretty much in parallel as I played the game. Early on as I watched I considered it to be pretty enjoyable. Not magnificent, but good. But, when I got to one episode in particular, I was pretty shocked (I think those who've seen the series will know which I'm talking about). It was surprisingly sad/dramatic and I didn't see it coming! The anime immediately gained my respect which was carried to the end. It stands as one of my favorites. Only complaint is the repetitive soundtrack and too many instances of "Hey, generic monsters, lets fight them!" For the record, I think the anime does a better job of the storyline than the game did. Character development seemed to die out later in the game, while the anime remains strong, along with being more dramatic in the first place. Regardless of whether or not you've played the game though, you'll enjoy this.

| The only reason I watched this anime is because I liked the video game. However, this is nowhere near as good as the game. The characters are so dull, the story is the same as the game however it is shown in a very dark way. Also, the story focuses more on Elk than the main character of the game Arc, which I thought Elk was a whiney brat in the show. Also, I really liked Shu in the video game, but they show him in early episodes and don't show that much after that. So in final words, if you want to see this anime because of the game, I suggest spending your time playing Arc the Lad II all over again and pretend that it is the anime show.

| I'm surprised to see quite a few negative reviews of Arc the Lad. I for one enjoyed it immensely - or was it just because Arc and Shu were so awesome?
In any case, Arc the Lad is a pretty serious anime that gets surprisingly graphic at times. There's nothing too novel about Arc the Lad (light vs dark theme, elementals, evil empires and the like), though these well-worn themes were certainly used well.
Ultimately, through all the painful and sad moments, it is clear that the anime's message is positive and hopeful. Maybe that's why I'm so fond of this series.

| Based on the Playstation RPG Arc the Lad 2, the Arc the Lad anime has to be one of the better game to anime conversions to date. Taking place a fantasy world with sci-fi elements, the story centers around a young bounty hunter named Elk and a mysterious young girl named Lieza who is being chased by an unknown group. In typical RPG fashion the story takes of from this point into a fight to save the world from the forces of darkness. Recommended for fans of RPG games in general, who will get a kick out of seeing a typical epic RPG story in animated form.

| Yet another great series. Very profund, emotional and action-packed soryline, which is quite disturbing at times. The character development is good and it focuses mainly on Elk (the main character). Unfortunately this is yet another anime whose characters can use elemental powers (fire, wind, lightning etc.) which kinda sucks since it is a worn out idea. Arc the Lad has some dramatic parts and some very sad parts but despite this, it is one of the few animes that has a good ending. Definately worth the watch.
