| I feel it's necessary to say I watched this subbed (on a bootleg DVD from 'Chinatown'), because I am under the impression that it's tough to come across a subbed copy of this. I also feel the need to state that THIS OAV WAS MADE WHEN I WAS ONE-YEAR-OLD.
*ahem* I've had the strangest desire to see this after reading a review critcizing this a few years back. When the chance came up to buy it on (bootleg) DVD for five bucks, how could I not? And wow, this was bad. I can kind of see why the 'trend' of 'macho' anime has kind of gone downhill (save the Hokuto no Ken OAV's the keep popping up every now and again).
Now, this OAV...even with it's silly plot, it doesn't have the over-the-top energy to be campy entertainment. It wants be a good drama, but it keeps interrupting it's own beat with sleep inducing 'action' sequences. In 45 minutes, it wants to be too many things. And it could have been one good thing, if it knew it's strengths (silly, fun over-drama, ridiculous plot twists) and weaknesses (action sequences, having a coherent plot).
I have a feeling that this just didn't age well. But when all's said and done, you can't say the poor Dog didn't try to please us.
