| If only the whole series of this was made!!! Sadly it stopped suddenly, something that has been bugging me for years. I was endlessly mocked by my friends for liking this, but considering they all liked Overfiend and other junk the arguments ends there.
It is really hard to recommend this as it is incomplete, hence the low Value rating, but I love all those links to Persian Mythology. Great stuff!

| A good fantasy anime set in an almost historical setting. Unfortunately it is unfinished and the existing episodes would be much better if developed into a full 26 TV series. I was really enjoying this anime - and then it ended just as the story was getting interesting. Grrr...
For full enjoyment, try to find manga or orginal novels, if you can read Japanese.

| For those of you who dont know, Arslan's story is based directly (yet discreetly) on Persian mythology. Even the names are Persian: Mithra (Misra), Farangis, Kei Khosro (Kei Hoslo), Zahak, Elam, Arslan (Arsalan), Tahmine, the Turanians etc. "Pars" is the Persian name for Persia. Even Ecbatana is the exact same city today known as Hamedan, in Iran, capital of the Median empire. The film even shows actual shots of real ruins in Iran today. There is even one part where we hear the sound of Zoroastrian prayers in Persian. Too bad Hollywood has been ignoring this rich area of legend and literature due to politics, unlike the open minded Japanese, despite the fact that the Persian empire arguably was the largest superpower of antiquity, feared by the Greeks and Romans. If you dont believe me, type in the phrase "achaemenid empire" in google, and look at the size of their territorial maps, and remember that the history we read is based on the often (proven) biased accounts of the Greek Herodotus. But Arslan's story is based on Persian texts, which is why the Lucitanians are regarded as mostly evil. The series tries to condense the entire mass of 3000 years of written Persian history (mostly from 500 BC to 600 AD), legends, and mythology into one (albeit loosely) comprehensive story. That being said, I was annoyed by the fact that the dubbing team changes half way through the series, and even the animators change. That was a big bummer. And then the series doesnt really "end" anyway. But then if you know Anime, you're probably used to seeing this "the end is another begining" type of storyline. And besides, monarchy has been in continued existence in Persia (Iran) since the dawn of time. The struggle for the throne has never ended. Even today in continues in another guise.

| Even when it was new, I was never the greatest fan of Arislan. I'd always felt the production had an inflated sense of its own importance, having made its debut on the big screen alongside Silent Mobius 2 and The Weathering Continent.
I'm always willing to change my views, though, and so watched it recently to see if I feel any differently about it. (I actually had a couple of friends dig it out because they knew they had a captive audience and absolutely adore this ;).
This is very much a character piece, rather than plot. Unfortunately, its incomplete nature makes one feel embarking upon a viewing as a bit of a waste. Which is a shame because the characters aren't all that bad. It is a pity about the series they're in, though....
Each succeeding chapter, from film to oav, plods along at a pace that is altogether too slow, and the animation, by today's standards, is pretty low grade.
This is easily comparable to Basara. They're practically the same story, and both are incomplete. Maybe there is an omen here, somewhere....

| This anime isn't too bad, the story while a bit drawn out (think hack/sign and noir in terms of pace) there is a bit to grab you. One thing that strikes you if you watch this is that the men are REALLY pretty... and I don't know why but it kind of made it difficult to watch. If you want to watch an anime and be in it for the long haul (though the ending has a bit to be desired), and you like extremly pretty male characters then this is the anime for you.

| This is my favorite anime of all time. I fell in love with it 5 or 6 years ago, and still feel the same about it. The animation and music are absolutely wonderful, backed up by an intense story of politics, religion, and war. It sparked my interest in Persian mythology and history, and it should do something for you too ^-^. On top of that, the characters are absolutely gorgeous.

| A damn near completely average fantasy story. Not any better than you'll see on prime time TV. No, actually it's a lot worse. I mean, I'd rather watch a bunch of businessmen sit around discussing their business plans than these wankers swing around their shiny swords, in some kind of compensation for their absolutely pathetic characterization.
I mean, hell, look at the title! Any story that needs to tell you upfront that it is heroic is a story in a sad, sad state of affairs. It's animes like this that make me realize how far anime has come, because while you still see horribly bad anime, at least most of them are trying for something.
Even if you did happen to want to watch the anime, and liked it, it's one of those animes that got buried in the graveyard of OAVs that tell a little bit of story, then end abruptly. The OAV rush of the late 90s was almost like the tech stock bubble, everyone rushed in to get in on it, only to realize most everything was crap with no inherent value and it all came crashing down.

| this is for people with more patience and prefer more quality in anime. although it could be a tad slow, i found the mood fitting for a classic fantasy feel. although the ending left much to be wanted, it is worth a watch if you are a fantasy fan who can withstand more depth in a story.
