| First note that I am reviewing based on the dubbed version (CTN...)
Dragon Ball is a comedic, fighting anime that traces the roots of Goku and many of the other Z-characters. The entire anime is pretty nicely done though the overall mood of the anime is obviously targeted towards a young audience.

| I first watched Dragonball when it was released in Canada. If you've only seen the redone version, it's lost a lot of it's appeal. It hurts to watch the redone when I can take out my worn out tapes and take my chances with the VCR eating it.

| I think this is a classic. People say this is a kid show but all I have to say to the them is watch it in japanese you'll see that it's not. It has alot of genres in thisn like Martial-Arts, Adventure, Action, Comedy, and a little bit of ecchi in it.
Animation - The animation is average considering its age. Its not that sketchy only in a few parts which is resonable considering its age. Colrs and shades are ok.
Sound - The voices are great in japanese. You get a lot of songs in the story inthe Jap diologue that you won't hear in the english diologue.
Story - The story is pretty cool considering how long it is. The story is pretty original because the main character doesn't always save the day or axactly win.The story is about a teen named goku who goes on a journey, while on the journey he gets stronger, makes friends and enemies.
Characters - The characters were amazing. They had a unique design for each one of them, for example they all didn't just have the same face-shape with different hair like most these days. The characters always face challanges and not always win. They do change overtim e like when they get older you can tell some what.
Value - I think Dragon Ball is aclassic its what most people that like anime now started out with. It is better in Japanese because its not kiddish in that version.I think it has a very high rewatch value i watched it a bunch of times.

| The original and best series of the three Dragon Ball series, Dragon Ball puts a comedic spin on the martial arts genre and while it has become very popular with kids because of its' young main characters and good animation, the humor and the series itself can be appreciated by adults.
Unlike Dragon Ball Z, where it is only a matter of time until the super-powerful Saiyans defeat the enemy, Dragon Ball brings to bear many different protagonists who are just as strong, and sometimes stronger, than the main characters. Unlike DBZ, Dragon Ball will keep you on your toes as to who the victor is going to be.
The characters are a strong point in this series; backstories are prevalent and interesting, and each character is given depth while the series maintains its' light-hearted nature.
The action scenes are interesting and are very unique; even those who have watched DBZ and its' repetetive fight scenes will not see any of those stale fight scenes in Dragon Ball, which is unique even among the dragon ball franchise.
The knocks against the series are as follows:
The animation is sub-par compared to today's standards, though it fits in well with the light-hearted cartoony atmosphere of the series.
The characters get a bit over-used and stale in this long series of 153 episodes.
Did I mention it was long? With 153 episodes, Dragon Ball shows you how Dragon Ball Z was able to go for as long as it did. It seems that the writer of Dragon Ball wanted to fit every detail from the manga into the anime and did not find the time to reduce the bulk of the manga into a story fit for a 50-52 episode anime.
Because of the length, it is almost impossible for most people to be able to buy every episode, so I wouldn't even attempt to try.
While an enjoyable series, with the action scenes and comedic nature of the anime lending itself to re-watchablity, the sheer length of the anime also bars one from re-watching the whole thing.
Everyone should watch at least the first 50 or so episodes of Dragon Ball, as it is worth it, but once you watch those 50 or so episodes, only the true fans should stay on and watch the next 100.

| This is the only good part of dragon ball trilogy
the rest DBZ and DBGT are god crap.
this anime has good moments of martial arts a lot of techniques and great characters like Ten Shin Han the crane kung fu master and the yamcha with the wolf style with cat stance.
Krilin is very stupid and the worst character of all time and the end is contradictory and reveals the nightmare DBZ or GT would be.

| This is one of the first Anime Series i have seen yet. That time, i was about 8 years old, so it's Humor did fit to my Age, i think. I think it's suitable to constitute it as Toilet Humor - at least it really wasnt that THAT intelectual. Most of all, i liked the Series because of the masterships.

| I saw this anime long after watching dbz. To me this was much more of a kiddy version. Very lame humor and concepts, this definitely was for 4 year olds.. The story though is interesting enough for people to see what goku was like when he was little. Also to see some of the dbz characters long ago and what they used to do before they all reached dbz.

| First I'd like to make clear that I was never (and probably never will) an ardent supporter of the series. I admit though too that the initial episodes were the most interesting and do not compare with the more recent excrements of GT and Z. One cousin of mine was an ardent fan of all the seasons and though I could understand that the first season had something redeeming I couldnt figure out what was so special about the other seasons. Fights, fights and fights again...well a wrestling match would be much more interesting....now on to the review...

| It started out fairly enjoyable, the first 2 branches are very good. Then there's a truckload of episodes covering the red ribbon army, they do nothing at all for the series. You can skip ~50 episodes here and still understand what's going on. After this another branch starts which is a bit more intresting, but a bit slowly paced.
There's a couple of things which I really have grown to hate about these types of animes, we're told the characters grow more powerful while in reality they don't. Very very early in the series for example we hear Gokus master saying that Goku has pretty much surpased him. For about 50 episodes or so afterwards we get to see how he supossedly grows many many times more powerful, he grows faster than anything has ever grown before. Then we get to see his master once again talking about how Goku has just slightly surpased him, while the only thing the master has been doing for the 50 episodes is looking for chicks. There's A LOT more examples like this.
The characters are good, but a lot of them aren't used and developed enough, which is a shame.
The story could've been great, same goes here though, if it would've been developed. There's to many "side quests".
The universe is probably the most intresting part. There's a lot of diffrent species in the series. The technology is very high while there's still dinosaurs in the world. There's guns, even if they're somewhat useless against our heroes.
All in all it started our by showing great promise, but turned out to be pretty average.

| I enjoy the original Dragonball more than any of its sequel. Perhaps because it is the original story until the creativity ended with Z and GT. This is about little Goku on his adventure. He's your clueless little boy with outstanding endurance and determination. I thought Dragonball was pretty enjoyable because everything was kept short and precise. No crazy power ups, no million power level, and no prolonged battles (until the end at least). Purely original and funny at times. Sound is much better with the cheerful music when Goku rides the nimbus cloud. Animation isn't that great, but it's decent for its time. Characters are all original, some even very strange. Like I said, better than its sequels and didn't fail to catch my attention. Decent anime.

| The only reasonable version of the Dragonball series that I thought was decent. It had a lot more humor than its continuation of whole features that it came later on . The story was fairly light, and had some good moments on it. This was the only time that I appreciated Akira Toriyama's work as an anime, for the most part.

| This is the only decent Dragon Ball anime out there. It doesn't forget its roots because they are deep in ancient lore. Its animation, while old, is decent for the time. Music while being replayed is more abundant and numerous than in other DB series. This would be the only series I would recomend watching

| This is what started it all and what a good start it had. Dragon ball is has more humor in it than the linear plot of dbz,but it also has a deep story, about a little boy traveling around the world trying to get the fourth star dragon ball that his grandpa gave him before he died.Goku meets alot of intresting people and also realizes he has along way to go in his strength.The winner of the fights in dragon ball are unpredictable because goku doesnt always win.The fights are great with varies of different techniques that they dont use any more in dbz and goku more of a variety of fighters in db because everyone is almost the same strength. The characters that are in db had a bigger role and more indept character than dbz as well.Goku is a lovable character and so is krillin once the story gets into his character.Characters like tien was koolin db because he has a bigger part and the fight with him vs goku was one of the best fights ive seen in db history.

| This title is a true classic, if u lived in the 80s this anime is one which u will nv forgets.
Althought this title lose alot for its graphics compared to animes nowadays, it is still one of my fav.
It features a boy named Goku and the adventure and life of his. He fights to protect earth and slowly grow into a fine adult. Married and have children, frenship and love.
Overall it is a anime which showed us the life of Goku and things that happen because of the dragonballs.

| Weeell... This is a tricky one to review. It has positive and negative aspects all mixed together.
The story is actually, pretty decent, with all that mistic and then technology, and gadgets, although it doesn't change that much (and it's a long series). The characters are all funny, little Son-Goku is very cute.
Also it has some pretty cool action scenes.
The downside are the animation and the music, me thinks.

| Well this is a classic, aldough i never liked it... Compared to the later DBZ series this one featured little Songoku, fights-not so many in number and not sooo explosive and exagerated and more comedy.
By todays standards the animation, sound, character design and backgrounds look really lame, soo i wouldn't call this a real classic, in the peoples eyes it's a piece of crapp, heheh here's the future of Naruto 20 years from now:))

| Ahhh... Good ol' Dragon Ball. A true classic. You have to relate to at least one character in here. They are so memorable, it's like you really knew them. But, the usual overdose of episodes brings the overall score down a bit. Best parts are the first search for dragonballs and first tournament. After that its another search for dragonballs then another tournament, another search, another tournament, you get the idea. It slows down, even in the good parts it was really dumb and corny. Now that I think about, I don't know what made this good, but somehow it just worked. I guess it helps if you are introduced to it at an early age.

| This is how it all started off, though like street fighter, it only got extreme fame when the sequel came out (in this case, Dragonball Z),this is still a must for all fans of the dragonball series.
I didn’t really enjoy this, maybe because compared to dragonball Z, this was rather tame, the young Son Goku’s training is a lot of the focus of this, along with enemies. A lot of comedy in this rather than cool fighting scenes, the enemies are also extremely stupid and weak compared to Dragonball Z (needless to say Dragonball GT as well lol).
I also hated the opening theme to this, this opening animation was good enough, but the sounds in this I hated, maybe it is because of the age of this anime, but there were better sounds in 1986.
150+ episodes maybe more than you can take, if you are a fan of the dragonball series, then have a look at this, however, I can’t promise that this series is quite what you had in mind…

| This is a classic that has everything—fable, comedy, action and tons burlesque goofiness. This is the only of the three shows that I truly enjoyed. The art is really good and fits the potty humor style. The voices (English dub) and the music are both sharp and the story is good enough to balance the great humor that fills this series. The characters are unforgettable and instantly charming. As far as value is concerned, I’m pretty sure you can buy bunches of eps in two disk sets (about 10 eps each) for about $30, seems like a pretty good deal to me. Overall a really fun and accessible series.
