| Here's the facts almost no male under the age of 14 can resist the lure of DBZ it's pure and simple one of the best anime's for yourng males.
But DBZ does provide solid animation and sound. And great battles, for instance android 17 vs Piccolo or majin vegeta vs goku. And though there are alot of flawed and wasted characters the main, main characters are all solid.
Look the series is clearly too long even a die hard DBZ fan like myself won't defend all of DBZ's flaws. But it's still worth checking out for some of the best action ever. I suggest not trying to take it all in at once taking in a few episodes at a time and skip over some of the filler eps.
But if you are looking for action dbz is a one stop shop.

| There are a few major assumptions people make when they think of Dragon Ball Z. Just looking at a picture makes you think it's all about unrealistically muscular guys, roaring, and endless fighting. Well, those assumptions are true, but they don't give the plot or the animation enough credit.
DBZ is about Goku, an extremely powerful martial artist who knows nothing about his past until a man named Raditz appears from outer space. From there, Goku learns that he is a Saiyan, and then experiences many conflicts as more people connected with his Saiyan origins appear before him. The same dragon balls (collect 7 of them and the dragon appears and grants you a wish) from Dragon Ball still remain as well.
There are multiple sagas in the show, each bringing a more powerful enemy and an increase in Goku's strength. Many of the episodes are filled with fighting, talking, and battle cries that are drawn out way too long. The series could have been shortened significantly. It also gets repetitive after a while. The plot goes through many twists to keep viewers entertained, but once Majin Buu arrives later on, everything starts to get really old. The focus on Goku starts to dry up, and the potential for development in other characters is untapped. The side characters should have been given more attention to prevent people from thinking "Goku saves the day" was the only real message in the story.
On the positive side, DBZ does a great job with the "super power" theme. Gigantic explosions and super speed are great to watch because no other show really captures the action the way DBZ does. Some people might find it stupid now, but if you consider how DBZ was among the first to delve deep into that "super power" theme, it did a really good job. There are a lot of sci-fi aspects as well, since space travel becomes a big part of the plot.
If you're still unsure of whether to trust every negative rumor or not, I'd recommend you to watch at least the first few episodes. The animation may seem weak at first, but that's only because the first episodes date back to 1989. For most people, I think the show will at least capture interest. Try it and see for yourself.

| DBZ is indeed a classic, and for its time it was a very good action anime. The arcs are for the most part pretty interesting and the characters are well done. One of the only things I have against the anime is its length. Five episodes for two energy balls to collide and the warriors to talk is just too long.
But to be frank, it is still one of the better action animes and as sales have shown, a very successful one.

| The sequel of dragon ball the first time i watched them it was cool since it was one of the first anime series i watched, also it had pretty cool things like battles and transformatión, but after 150 episodes you just start getting the same, even rewatching is a little boring, also the story/line, trama or however you want to call it, its not that awesome since its always the same, someone, wants to conquer the world/universe or wants to destroy it, so just stop him/them, we won, lets just train more because here come another one, maybe he is more powerfull than us but somehow we become as powerfull or even more powerfull tha him so we won, then just loop again till were more more more more powerfull

| Admit it people, when you first found out about Dragon Ball Z, you thought it was the best show that you ever saw. And at the time it probably was because you probably watched it on Cartoonnetwork like I did or on some other station on TV. Back then there was nothing like DBZ, my two favorite shows, tom and jerry and Dragon Ball Z. There was no real excitement in animation back then, Dragon Ball Z was a first of its kind. And thats why we all loved it so much because we've never seen anything with so much feeling to it. If I compare it to the anime now, DBZ seems ridiculous. I recently rewatched some of it, the epispode right before Goku and Freeza fight is 20 minutes of them staring each other and talking about how there are only 3 minutes left before the world ends, while twenty episodes ago it was 5 minutes. But I also remember when I first watched this episode, I was jumping up in down in excitement and could not wait for the next day for the final battle.
So anyway I'm rating this as I remember it and how I felt about it when I first watched it.
People say that Dragon Ball Z is trash and Naruto is trash, maybe it is while compared to all the intellectual and sophisticated anime. But don't lie, at one point you thought Dragon Ball Z was great and it is because we all wish that we could be Goku and fight for something important and then in the end, win.

| Horrible anime! one of the worst animes ever made! The plot is almost non existant in this show so why bother watching this when there are sooo many good shounens like Yu Yu Hakusho, Naruto and Bleach?!
That is a rhetorical question: there are no reasons!!

| Dragonball Z. To most, this anime is what started it all. I remember not being more than 6 or 7 one morning channel surfing looking for this show Ronin Warriors my friend was talking about. Instead, I stumbled upon Dragonball Z, the very first episode. My life was changed. It took me years, until I was 20 to finally buy all of Dragonball and watch it. Yes, i watched it, from Dragonball to Dragonball GT. This is just a preface to the review of DBZ, which will now commence. I am sick of seeing people bash this show. You sit and smugly destroy this show yet will hail Naruto or other shounens as great. Lets face it, nothing would exist without Dragonball, nothing. Its not perfect, but the fights were amazing, and still are. Before you judge this show, watch Dragonball. Take it as a sequel. Hey, we all waited for 2 years for new naruto. We endured fillers for a new season, a continuation. DBZs story takes the children of Dragonball, and has them grow up, marry, and have children. We see them mature. Yes they train, but DBZ is about family, and the sacrifice that one man makes to save a world that doesnt know he exists and cant protect itself. Everyone complains that it drags on and on yet everyone still watches Naruto, where i guess its ok to drag on because the fights are good. DBZ did it first. This show is a classic, not as good as whats out now, but it doesnt deserve the abuse it gets.

| Dragon ball Z is the continuation of Dragon ball. Goku is now and adult and has a son Gohan which whom he trains to be a strong as he is. Many enemies and friends come along and each have their own unique personality.
DBZ was my first anime, as it is for many others I am sure. I was hooked on it from 2002-2004. The characters are what really hooked me, they are never static - they are ever changing by getting stronger and getting more personality. This show has so many characters and different personalities I am sure the viewer will attach themselves to at least one.
The story is the shows biggest downfall, in the sense that there isn't really a story to speak of. It is all about the good guys training to become stronger while a bad guy comes and kicks their butts. Then the good guys courage up pride and strength that they never had and beat the bad guy... or they could just call Goku. Rinse and repeat.
Overall I immensely enjoyed this one, the development, the action, the humor… it was all there. This is an anime where one doesn’t really worry about the story, because it is all about the characters and their journeys to get stronger and protect earth from its next threat. The only time it dragged for me was the freeza and buu sagas, but other than that I loved it.

| As with many other people, Dragon Ball Z was the anime that dragged me into the world of anime, so I guess thats why its so popular and many people feel close to it.
Myself, I love the show and continue watching it to this day, but it does have cheapness, such as the main plots (a super villain comes to destroy the earth, Goku saving the day) and the animation isn't the best, but overall, it's a really enjoyable experience.
The Animation isn't as great as others, but when it was released, it was the best of its time. For that, it should get a better score, but in some episodes the animation is so blatently rushed or they changed artists, that it looks terrible. This happens mostly in the Buu Saga, when every few episodes the animation of characters looks dreadful, but on others, it looks great.
The Sound is great, in my opinion. (I watch the english, FUNimation dub) First off, the music, I love it. Vegeta's Theme is fantastic, and so is other music, that I don't know the names of. The voices were done well, I havn't seen the Japanese or other dubs, so I have nothing to compare it to, so i've listened to this dub only, and think its great. Goku's voice fits his character well, a playful man. Vegetas is cold and has a rough edge to it, just like his character. Some characters have flaws though, like Master Roshi, even though other characters have had voice changes through the series, his, for me, sounded the worst because they kept changing him, most other characters were good though.
The dialogue of the anime in general is good, but they do talk alot during battles and do power up alot. But despite that, there has been some excellent lines and quotes, just afew examples are when Majin Vegeta destroys half of the martial arts tournament and when he fights Goku. Another is when Gohan fights Super Buu.
The story and plot, as I said earlier, isn't anything incredible, as they always win the super villain(s) in the end, with many casulties but they wish them back to life with the dragon balls anyway. Despite the similar plot to each main saga, they have some memorable moments.
Character development is done very good, although most main characters were once Goku's rivals, they each have their own uniqueness about them. Vegeta is one of my favourite characters of every anime ever, alot of other people like him too. He is very, very well done and DBZ wouldn't be the same without him.
Dragon Ball Z should be recommened to anyone whos new to anime, but its still great for people who've watched alot of anime. Sometime in the future, there will be a list of Classic anime and DBZ will be one of them, it has been a huge insperation to other anime creators and has introduced anime to many many people.

| My intro to anime was DBZ, and what can I say, after all these years I look back and still have fond memories of the show. The thing that I love most about the series is the character development because you will grow to love certain characters of the show and in turn develop favourites. The animation is good, if not great for its time. It has an awesome dub (vary rare) filled with lots of great fighting music to pump the veiwer up and also has some great serious melow tunes. The story is good at times and dull at others, overall it leaves you with a "could have been better feeling". The freeiza and cell sagas were the best imo with buu saga giving one the feeling that it is "un dbz like". But overall I still enjoyed the show from begining to end and loved watching all the characters grow on their journeys and adventures while protecting Earth and if I had the time I would watch it again.... someday.

| I've known DBZ for a long time now and This especially welcomed me into the world of anime. Truthfully comparing to anime nowdays, DBZ doesn't stand a bit of chance but people need to recognize that at least its reconnaissance throughout the time should stay into something of a "wall of fame".

| Animation - I know its an older anime, so i think that a 6 is pretty generous. I can't say i care for the bright colors or the character designs, or much of anything visually.
Sound - O boy. The sound made my ears hurt.
Story - The story was really repative, as soon as they beat an impossibly powerfull enemy that has been threatening the world with various devious plots, anothere appears right afterwards, and Goku and company have to save the world...again...yaaaay...
Character- The Characters aren't really all that bad, though none of them are really dynamic in any way.
Value - wouldn't watch it again ever, too long
Enjoyment - I got my fair share of enjoyment from this title, more than i would admit to (except here, of course)

| i do hate dragonball z alot .i think its retarted a horrible shounen anime and pointless.the characters are not fun and there all serious except for like 5 of them.
animation- i dont care if this was done in 1989 i thought that the animation was okay and not the best of its time.yes some of the characters were drawn good like trunks and bulma but every one else had a flawed character design.yet the scenery was done good.
sound- all the man characters sounded weird and messed up and had a horrible dubbed voice actors especially vagita who sounded horrible.
story- i guess this is one of the earlier martial arts anime and give it credit for doing that. the plot was all these guys and girls who know martial arts and canm shoot energy balls out there arm go look for dragonballs so there wish can be granted ,but thats not it now theyve added androids who want to kill goku wow nothing new .
character- they were a horrible cast except for a few.goku wasnt really that bad he was good for some comioc relief.vagita sucked he was to serious and boring.krilin was a stupid short character trying to prove something and well the only cast member i liked was trunks bulma and bubbles the monkey oh yeah android 17 was not that bad of a character either she wwas at least a little interesting..
enjoyment- i wont rewatch it,heck i wont even finish it i justy hate this anime so much its just horrible, but i did give it a six for enjoyment because the show got me to watch it and the fight scenes were ok.

| I use to watch Dragon Ball Z when I first got into anime when I was younger. Dragon Ball Z is not nearly as good as its prequal Dragon Ball.
Dragon Ball Z is to repetitive. For example the Z-fighters will always win the battle not all the fights but the battles. When you are sitting there watching and their in the middle of a fight and then suddenly they talk for about lets say 3 episodes or even longer, that reqally pissed me off when I was younger.
Animation - animation shouldhave been a lot better consideringits prequal Dragon Ball had better graphics and Dragon Ball Z was made three years after. The graphics kind of looked like a manga drawing moving with stiff legs and arms.
The attacks that the characters used do look pretty cool, but they repete the animation way to much they dont draw it again they just transfer it over to the part. Also when ther characters were moving they were very sketchy and repetitive there was no new movements when they were doing anything.
Sound - The voice were YAAAAAAAAAWW Ha HA HA ... wait not finished yet KaMEHAmeha about half the talking was that but repeted about nine minuets in every episode.
The voice actors sounded like they were reading the script for the first time and didn't put any emotion to make it sound real. They had cheesey lines and they were repetitive lik " its up to me to save the earth from evil like you", then you thinkl in your head after hearing it," yea we know" I wish all the Z fighteres died to end this repetitive crap".
Story - You really didn't need to watch Dragon Ball to know what happens in Dragon Ball Z. Well tye story is about a group of warriors who always save earth from monsters, aliens , and other evil and annoying things they find. Te plot is so repetitive that an 8 year old will know what happens after watching the first saga. its also predictable on who will win and who will lose. There are a lot of fillers in here and they are in the middle of the battles sadly.
Characters - The characters get to strong for doing nothing especially. The characters never change in the perspactive that, This guy will never be stronger than that guy. Also what I don't like is how characters are just thrown away and really don't come back or if they do its just to block an energy blast like Tien then never show up againin the really late episodes.
Value - I recomend this to kids because its agood starter anime series', but when you see others after DBZ you will not be impressede at all unless you stay a DBZ fanboy. I do not recommend coleecting any of the series' even if you are the biggest fan its just to many DVDs like about a hundred or more, I know my friend still collecting them. The rewatch value is unlikely because of the long length. If you are new to anime and watch this, I recommend try another anime and compare the story and everything to see why I mark DBZ a newbie anime in my book.

| This is quite possibly the first anime that I ever watched (not quite sure because it was years ago). I watched this show as a child and I rewatched alot of the series again after it was dubbed into english. This is NOT the worst anime I've ever seen, but it's not the best either. Alot of people tend to focus on the short-comings (many though there be) but the body of this review is looking at the good stuff, the ratings are the end result of waying the good vs bad.
Animation: This is quite possibly the high point of this anime. Why? having rewatched this show dubbed, this is easily one of those anime that have aged gracefully. Most anime I revisited have basically shown me the massive change in anime (Ranma, Slam Dunk, Initial D, Akira). Most reviewers say that the animation is poor in comparison to other anime. BUT WHAT ARE THEY COMPARING IT TO!? shows like FMA, Gundam Seed (which incidently the Gundam series haven't aged as well as this one). I'm giving the anime merit where it deserves, having rewatched it recently, it doesn't look like a pre-historic anime to me. Not 2006 brand new though.
Sound. This area it's not that flashy. The original Opening and Ending music was very 80's (to be expected). The english opening didn't improve either (despite being dubbed several years later).
Story. Again, this area is not that flashy. The idea behind the dragon balls is okay, but the story seemed to be focused more on continuous villains coming for Goku's Head. This area is the low point for this anime, but no one can argue that most fighting anime has it's downfall on story. Also, the extended powerup scenes didn't help this anime, AT ALL.
Character. This is basically the high point. The characters, are actually quite good. They each have unique personalities. An abundance of character growth, but that's to be expected with 291 episodes, still I'm glad it was there. To fully explain the high point of this anime, you have to look at the main character, Goku. This guy is the typical hero, but unlike most characters in other anime, he is the perfect hero. Where this anime peaked (in my opinion) was during the cell saga, I doubt anyone who sat through the entire series (without holding personal bias because of the intended target audience) did not felt sad when Goku died. Watching the hero fall for a noble cause, very typical, but this part I thought was done well. I guess what made this particular part of the anime best for me was that it wasn't drawn out.
Value. This deserves the highest rating, not because it's worth watching or rewatching (though I'm not saying that it shouldn't be watched/rewatched). It's rating comes from the fact that this show (among others) really put anime on the map overseas. No one can question the impact "childish" shows like Dragon Ball Z was enormous internationally. That's why this deserves an 8. I bet most of the older anime watchers (16+) was introduced to anime by watching this show.
Look, If you ever intend to watch or review this anime. Don't base your opinion with comparing it to modern day anime, it's definitely going to lose. Don't even compare it to 80's anime, because you'll most likely compare it to Akira. DBZ and Akira are very different, different genre's, different target audiences and different levels of emotional depth. Also, to say Akira is completely superior to DBZ would be incorrect anyway, the animation in DBZ has aged so much more "gracefully" than Akira.
Watch this anime not to see something you would expect to trump your No.1 Favourite anime. Watch this anime to revisit childhood memories, to see the Super Saiyans again. I bet most of you still recall screaming "Kamehameha" along time ago.

| With 291 episodes, this is the longest and the most stretched out series in anime history, I dont know about Naruto and One Piece (which are still on going) This used to be my favorite of all, that is when I was in high school when I don't watch other animes except this but as soon as I started to watch others, I realized all the flaws and immidiately it left the top spot on my list.
I dont like the animation. Son Gokou and his sons look stupid, their eyes are huge and the hair is spiky and plastic looking so they all seem to be just cartoon characters, one of the most unrealistic character design of all the titles that I watched. I don't like the opening and ending songs, the background music is forgettable and the japanese dubbing of Gokou's voice is kind of annoying.
The problem with its plot is that Gokou and the rest of the saiyans are just getting stronger and stronger as if theres no limit, it can be compared to a house which doesnt have walls, ceilings and floors. In the beggining, we saw Vegeta destroying an entire planet with just one blast, then you'll tell me that the saiyans can be more stronger than that? it doesnt make sense. Another thing is, the fight scenes are too much drawn out. Gokou and Freeza's fight lasted for about 20 or 30 episodes, lets not forget how long Gokou and Majinbu's fight too. It was so stretched out that it made me want to puke. Another flaw is that all the villains doesnt think of anything but just to blow Planet Earth into smithereens or conquer the whole universe. I think we have a misconception when it comes to villains, villains are human too (or aliens) dont you think they dont do what the normal human beings do everyday? Don't they brush their teeth or go to the toilet? Don't they wash their laundry? Anyway, another thing is, you wont feel down if anyone of them dies coz they will be revived again and again so its ok to see them die (or am I just heartless?) so don't expect sad moments.
The only merit in this series are the characters, they're pretty nice. Gokou's stupidity is just funny, though he's an idiot, he can be very serious and dependable. He saves our planet earth from the hands of the evil aliens from all over the universe (aliens who can speak earth language, yeah right!) Gohan and Goten are just like their Father. This Father and Sons are somewhat appealing characters for some unknown reason despite of being idiots.
A pretty enjoyable series, just as long as you sleep when they start fighting and wake up when they're done.

| When I first started watching Dragon Ball Z at the age of ten, I couldn't believe that television was able to show something so awesome and original. I was hooked, watching every episode that came out and buying the tapes as they were released. However, looking back, Dragon Ball Z is more of a letdown and a cliched story than anything else.
