| "Ayanes High Kick" entsteigt dem "Ganbatte-Sport-Genre" und liefert recht altbekannte Kost in Form von einem Storyverlauf, sowie Charakteren die in diesem Genre halt Gang und Gäbe sind. Wir haben einen ambitionierten weiblichen Hauptcharakter die sich ein großes Ziel gesetzt hat und viel Talent besitzt, aber in der von ihr angepeilten Sportart (Wrestling) nicht viel zu reißen vermag bis ein ausgebuffter Trainer aus dem Nichts auftaucht und anfängt sie zum Kickboxer auszubilden. Wie das ganze dann abläuft ist kein großes Geheimnis: Starke Gegner tauchen auf und fordern sie heraus, vor dem Kampf wird (mit teilweise unkonventionellen Methoden) trainiert und zu guter letzt wird, nach dem es standesgemäß zuerst stark nach Niederlage aussieht, der Sieg errungen. Wie bei solchen Animes üblich kann man den Verlauf bzw. den Ausgang des Ganzen leicht vorhersehen. Damit trotz dessen keine Langeweile aufkommt muss man also auf anderen Baustellen arbeiten und als solche sind hauptsächlich die Charaktere und die Fight-Action zu betrachten. Der Hauptcharakter muss mindestens so sympahtisch sein das man ihm jeden Sieg gönnt, damit man auf die Vorhersehbarkeit der Handlung einen Kehricht gibt und die Kämpfe müssen gut in Szene gesetzt werden um dem Zuschauer zusätzlich etwas zu bieten auf das er sich immer wieder aufs Neue freuen kann wenn die Fäuste anfangen zu fliegen. "Hajime no Ippo" z.B. hat das durch und durch vorzüglich hinbekommen, bei "Ayanes High Kick" allerdings bleiben die Baustellen am Ende auch Baustellen. Ayane ist zwar nicht unsympathisch aber durch den geringen Spielraum den die 2 Episoden bieten kann der oben beschriebene Effekt nicht gänzlich seine Wirkung entfalten. Dieses gewisse Gefühl "Mit dem Protagonisten zu wachsen" welches jeder (gute) Sport-Anime (z.B. "Hajime no Ippo" oder "Kaleido Star") vermittelt hat hier leider keine Chance sich einzustellen. Baustelle Nr.2 sind die Boxkämpfe, denn diese sind animationstechnisch leider nicht spektakulär genug ausgefallen. Zuviele Still-Shots, Speedlines und Frame-Recycling hemmen den Spaß leider deutlich. Im Endeffekt hätte "Ayanes High Kick" durchaus etwas recht Kurzweiliges werden können aber wie so oft wird dies durch die Kurzlebigkeit einer OVA, die nur einen kleinen Ausschnitt aus einer umfangreicheren Geschichte zeigt, zu Nichte gemacht. Die relativ schwachen Animationen geben "Ayanes High Kick" dann noch zusätzlich den entgültigen Knock-Out. Fazit: Wer einen guten Sport-Anime über Boxen sehen will, der greift zu "Hajime no Ippo" und kann diese OVA getrost in den Wind schießen

| Disappointing that there were only two episodes. I really would have liked to see this carried on. The most similar anime I've seen to this was Hajime no Ippo, which I enjoyed.

| Everything about this title was so….meh. And, it wasn’t anything I didn’t expect either. After all, I doubt that most things could stand up to Hajime no Ippo quality, the only other boxing anime I’ve seen. Growing to expect and getting used to that sort of look and feel from a 76-episode boxing anime, what could a 2-episode OVA offer?
It offered us generic characters…the ditzy yet spirited main character Ayane who will blindly train for her “pro wrestling” yet doesn’t have enough smarts to realize she’s doing kickboxing….the smart dorky best friend…the “evil-teacher-that-wants-a-student-expelled-for-little-reason” … etc. And, it offered us little development of these characters, unfulfilling fights, uninspiring animation and sound, and poor attempts at humor. If the ending of both fights weren’t so completely anticlimatc, and if the same animations for punching and such weren’t used constantly, It would have been a lot more enjoyable in the ring. Of course, it just felt blah out side of it too.
Despite this it wasn’t completely bad. I was mildly entertained. Not enough to burn and keep Ayane’s High Kick, but entertained nonetheless. I’m not quite sure if it’s a good use of an hour, but I think I’ve spent many hours of my life doing more pointless things. I would reccomend spending your time actually training IN kickboxing than watching these 2 episodes.

| Reminds me of “Ashita no Joe”, but this one was suppose to have more comedic value on its part. It felt kind of too cliché, even for a OVA shounen. They shouldn’t have bothered with this, because the story is mostly consists of “wanting to be the best fighter”, except this one is now a female wanting to be a wrestler and then becomes a kick boxer kind of thing. I couldn't even understand why she was always clueless during the whole story. Not a great watch, even for one episode.

| If this had been the first of this cliched genre that I had seen, then I would've enjoyed it more. Sadly, Ayane doesn't have anything to differentiate itself from the numerous action/comedy anime out there. The concept of the show provides for some good laughs, but one thing I could never stand for in anime was fighting scenes that were poorly animated. Seems like the vast majority of action anime with fisticuff fight scenes are like this, with Ayane no different. You can get some enjoyment wasting an hour watching this, but there are better anime of this genre available.
