Ok, so sue me. I loved this anime. So a 10 will go to enjoyment, like I will probably do on all anime. There was so much to get over this show before I could truly enjoy it, but once I did, I didn't even notice anymore. This anime is a good example of why you should always finish what you start, because I had extreme lack of interest in the beginning. By the time I got to the 11th episode(which took me a week) I just couldn't stop until the show was over. Everything got better for sure. This anime is worth pushing through the beginning.

Mysterious Ceres is the type of shoujo series that you can't take too seriously but you can still really enjoy it to the max. It's a story filled with a lot of drama, love triangles, teenage angst...not to mention, it's got that whole crazy sci-fi, mystical and trans-generational angle thrown into the mix as well. With all of that, it should suffice to say that we've got ourselves a pretty complex story going on with this anime series, but even so, it's really not that hard of a story to follow....and that's precisely why I'm giving this story high marks because no matter how awesome a story maybe, no matter how super smooth and modern the art might be, if the story isn't told well enough to make a connection to it's audience then it fails as a program....and ultimately it all amounts to a steaming pile of crap. So even though this show, Ceres has had it's uber-EMO moments with all these characters that are either suffering from some sort of bipolar or MPD = Multiple Personality Disorder, I still give it high marks because not once did I roll my eyes in disgust nor did I get bored with it. Mysterious Ceres does tell a good enough story that you'll be able to follow through to it's conclusion all the while being entertained the whole time.

Whenever I think of Yu Watase, I imagine animes with far too much complicated, romantic fluff for their own good. "Ceres: Celestial Legend" is no exception. I actually like romantic stories, but Watase's are always typical situations in which characters have "accidental" kisses and involvement in love triangles (or squares...). It gets old and blocks out much of the original plot's quality.

"Ceres: Celestial Legend" has a very unique and original story, aside from its convoluted love webs. Aya, a sixteen year old girl, is able to transform into Ceres, the vengeful spirit of a fairy who was chained to the human world long ago. Because her "heavenly robe" was stolen from her, she could not return to the heavens. Some of her female descendants, centuries into the future, are able to channel her spirit so that she can find her robe once again. Aya's family, the wealthy and prestigious Mikages, seek to kill anyone who turns into Ceres.

The anime starts out that way. It's darkly interesting and looks like it will be good. Unfortunately, the direction and anime are poor. Due to the story's depth, the flaws can be overlooked for the first few episodes, but then everything goes downhill as the story progresses. You don't feel anything for any of the characters. Aya's upbeat attitude makes her seem more naive and annoying than anything else. She puts herself into stupid, dangerous situations because of her love interests, despite the efforts of those who want to protect her. Her family is cold, and none of the villains are remotely enticing.

For an intricate plot that derived a lot of mythology, the animators and directors did a terrible job in manifesting the story's true potential. The only area where the it survives is in its suspenseful tone. I only watched it because I wanted to know Aya and Ceres's fates. The character designs were mediocre, and the background music wasn't anything special. I particularly liked the opening theme, but that was all. If there was anything good about the animation, it was the backgrounds, which were done with much detail.

If you ever start the series after reading this review, you'll probably ask, "What kind of crap did that person write? This anime is great!" Well, if you finish it, you'll end up getting disappointed by all the untapped potential the story had. It's only mildly enjoyable, so it doesn't work as light entertainment either. I wouldn't buy it or re-watch it. It was just too much of a let-down.

I know what your thinking. This guy must be crazy for giving this anime a perfect score. But you know what? this is what it deserves. First off it was made on 1998 wich by that stardard the animation was top notch on that time and by animation I mean the frame rate. Resolution and colors were top notch on that time as well. Characters are awesome and very interesting wich I won´t forget for a long time to come. Storyline is the true strength of this anime. Is one of the best stories around in an anime and always made me so eager to see the next episode wich is hard to come by these days and it doesen´t have holes and tyle lines like other stories so its really refreshing to watch. I only review anime I really think that are worth to review so you can imagine how many anime I DIDN´T review :P

Overall IMO this anime should of been at least on the top 20 but alas people from this time have a hard time realizing what good anime were like and this one doesen´t bring out some bad storyline flaws like so many animes around "cough!! lucky star COUGH!!"

The directors of this one should of gotten an award for this one, defenectly.

Note: Ayashi no Ceres contains some nudity & quite Bloody Scenes. Similar to Elfen Lied, but less... If you can't stand the sight of nudity, the blood or gore, you might want to close your eyes in some of the episodes of this anime.

Ayashi no Ceres has Decent Animation. The animation is quite detailed, though never reading this manga before, but ever Reading Fushigi Yuugi, another of Yuu Watase's works... Knowing the style of art, i think that the animation and character design are very well done & quite decent. Though the animation looks really bad when comparing it with modern animes like Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu. Still, the slightly old animation style is quite fitting for this anime as it deals with history and legends quite a bit.

The OP song, "Scarlet" was very nice. I Liked the melody & i think that it is very suited for this anime. though i didn't really enjoy the First Ending theme. Most of the episodes either ended in sadness or in mystery, and a lively Rock Music comes up and quite spoils the mood. Similar to Elfen Lied, which coincidentally had a very unfitting Ending theme... Other than that, I have to say, The Seiyuus were REALLY GOOD & they Did a very GooD JoB... =)

About the Story...Since the anime started, the storyline of Ayashi no Ceres moved very quickly. Yes, So Quickly that i found myself watching another episode each time the episode ended. Comparing to the normal slow-paced shojo animes that i watch, i felt like the pace of the storyline in Ayashi no Ceres, was like watching 2 episodes in 1, making it felt like i must have watched about 50 episodes of a normal shojo anime, just because the Plot moved Very Fast, & So Many Things were Told in a Brief amount of time. Every Episode was Exciting & I Couldn't stop Myself from watching the next episode each time. However, the flaw of having such a fast-paced storyline was the comedy couldn't really be enjoyed. For Me, i was still in my On-the-edge-of-the-seat mood, & a Joke comes up, and i couldn't enjoy the comedy cause i was still in that mood, even though the jokes were quite original and would be funny.

Ayashi no Ceres is a VERY Meaningful Anime, even though it dived into history & Legend & Magical Beings, the Relation of all those and humans made the Whole Anime very Meaningful & Understandable. There were also many understandable conflicts being put in this anime. For example, Getting Stuck choosing the Right Guy when Both Guys are Nice, Sincere & Honest, & Trying to Get Back Together with your Family after going through ALL THat Aya has gone through, Etc. etc. There were a lot of Character development going on as well, & Many Different Point of Views, & A LOT OF EMOTIONS...

i'm finding it very hard to explain my opinions of this anime.

Well, Many Things Happened Very Quickly in the 24 Episodes of Ayashi no Ceres, & some details might be too quick for the viewer to have understand or heard, but in my opinion, I think the Story was Really Well-Made, and Very Complete, leaving no Plot-holes that i can think of. With Full of Suspense, Excitement & Surprises, I Always Found myself on the Edge of the seat, Always Hoping the Characters can Survive Each Time & Can have a Happy Ending in the end. Ayashi no Ceres was NOT Cliche at all, & in my opinion, I think Ayashi no Ceres was ReaLLy Well Made & Well Planned.

Ayashi no Ceres also does a good job in trying to make you cry, by watching the characters develop, & letting you understand all the Different Characters' Qualities & Faults & Flaws, & The Close Bonds & Relationships between them all. & When finally a tough situation happens to the characters, all the emotions and thoughts going through their heads were ToTaLLy UndersTanDaBle!!! Ayashi no Ceres did quite a good job in Showing the Viewer all those Great Moments, & thus, Making this anime Quite Emotional & Some might Cry Buckets.

Ayashi no Ceres is simply, a Very Human Anime... I can't seem to explain it any further than that. With Many Emotions of Love, Jealousy, Hatred & Bonds... Happiness & Sadness... Ayashi no Ceres is a GREAT ANIME!!!

After reading the previous reviews, i guess it's understandable why you might puke by this anime as it has a lot of forced feelings, and a forced storyline. (eg. i would have rooted for Yuhi X Aya as well), but i didn't think Touya was thaat bad either. Well, I didn't really mind the forced storyline, actually, i didn't think it was forced, I accepted it as it whole, so i have no complaints.

So, it's quite hard to say whether you would enjoy Ayashi no Ceres as MuCh as I Did, or Puke as Much as the Previous Reviewers did. But I should say, if you're going to watch Ayashi no Ceres and want to enjoy it, just accept it as it whole, and don't go against what yuu watase has planned. & Read all the details, as people would tend to forget or miss all those details with the fast paced storyline.

"The young man stole away with the heavenly robe hanging from the nearby pine tree. The angel couldn't return to heaven without that robe? That's right. What happened to the angel after that? She couldn't return so she tearfully became the wife of that young man. His wife? You mean she fell in love with him? I don't know about that. Tell me, tell me, after she married him did the angel get her robe back? Was she able to go back home? Is the angel's home up in the sky? Tell me... Is it still there?"

This show takes this legend and portrays it in darkest colors I've seen in any shoujo show yet. It tells a tale about lust, obession and hatred, which didn't cease even after hundreds of years. It portrays mystical beings being reincarnated in the bodies of unfortunate brother and sister. It shows various cases of obession, schizophrenia and phobia. It's dark and cruel, it has no pity even for its main characters, who are tormented from the very beginning to end. Yet despite all of this, it appears to be only average. How is it possible for me, who is gothic, horror and psychology wannabe to call such an anime just average? The answer is actually quite simple. It seems that the director of this show thought that he was directing a soap opera, rather than an anime.

I think this is the first time I see a show, which is screwed up from insides out just because of the crappy and unprofessional direction. At the very first episode I've noticed that there's something awfully wrong with this show, yet I couldn't put it into words until around episode six. There were deaths, there were psychical imbalances, there were gothic-like mysterious details, yet I didn't feel a thing. I didn't feel excited, nor I did feel bored. It seemed as if an invisible shield would've appeared before me and deflected any emotional impact thrown at me from this show. Anyway, after some time I've realized what is wrong, simply told, the timing of the dialogues is awfuly wrong, so awfuly wrong that it pretty much screws up everything in this show. Furthermore the dialogue is really very cheesy and to make it sound cool, you have to cleverly slide it into a suiting situation. Unfortunately this show throws cheesy conversations whenever it has a chance, making it hard to seriously believe in them. It is sad, but it kind of reminded me of soap operas, my grandmother watches during the weekends. Both poorly acted and directed, they are not that much different from this show. Oh, but don't start thinking I am actually saying that this show is as bad as soap opera. I really doubt there is an anime which is as bad as the best soap operas out there. Frankly speaking, even though this show has the same weaknesses as the soap operas, it is still an anime and you can enjoy it, if you are able to overlook its flaws.

I'd only recommend this to patient viewers. Who love anime enough, to refrain themselves from laughing at its flaws. If you can ignore them, you are bound to like this show. As both the story and the characters would be very well done, if not for the poor "acting". Oh, and if you in fact, love soap operas, then this show is definitely for you. Love Soap Operas... sounds weird. -_-;;

I loved this anime when I first began watching it. About the first 3/4 of the series are great, but then (at least to me) it kinda took a turn for the worse. The ending is just kind of stupid. The storyline and plot are fairly decent to start with, but it grows somewhat stagnant, random and repetitive. I'll review the breakdowns real quick then give my final overview.

Animation: Hmmm... its not BAD, but its by no means great. If you are looking for a landmark quality series in this field your playing ball in the wrong country. There are bits where the animation is great, and action is well animated, BUT at the same time there is just too much of the "cheesy animated" cartoons with the waterdrops on there head and stuff at points. Additionally, as the series progressed to the end I noticed the battle sequences slowly became just replayed clips as opposed to the skilled drawings in the beginning. Wonder if they just stopped caring about this anime by the end.

Sound: For the most part the sound itself is solid. Generally if there is any effort by the voice actors and a somewhat decent soundtrack you have good sound. The opening and ending themes are great throughout the series. The voice actors themselves are real good, until the end. >_> What is it about those last 4 eps? Its like no one gave a damn. I'll rant on the story though in a sec.

Story: Well, like I said. It is solid in the whole beginning and development section of the plot, but it just falls apart at the end. I won't give any spoilers, but here would be how I could summarize the ending episodes. Script writers got lazy, didn't care at all, thus all conversations that SHOULD be extremely meaningful are barred with retarded 1 liners and cheesy responses that over half of make absolutely no sense. Basically the ending script is a freaking botch job. And to be honest I just got frustrated as hell with Aya, but I'll leave that to your own discretion by the end.

Character: Not so great, but not a total bomb in itself. Yes there are characters that are not "static." They have pasts, changing personalities, and dynamic interactions. Why such a low score then? Over half of your interpretation of them is left to yourself. This anime isn't going to impose them upon you and make you love or hate them. It won't force you to become connected to them in any way. It will give you the facts, expand with lots of details, but you never get connected. You always feel like a 3rd party onlooker in this anime. You never really become connected to the cast. ;_; (Although I due feel truly sorry for Yuuhi for about 10 different reasons. Poor guy =/ )

Value/Enjoyment/MY CONCLUSION: Figured I'd dump all this together as they are all about the same. Its an o.k. anime altogether. Maybe one I'd rewatch with my g/f if I was bored or something. The story HAD potential, but just kinda came crashing to a halt by the end and doesn't live up to what it could have been. Let's be honest, the plot idea really isn't all that bad. This had the potential to probably be a top 50 anime, it just doesn't ever get where its going. So there ya have it. Its not a bad anime, but it will never be a classic, and has little potential to ever be considered a "great" anime, but its higher quality than the majority of junk that gets produced no days. ^_^

I was very surprised by his anime, I read a little into it but nothing major and I decided to watch it. From the first episode I was hooked, it became very dark early on with very visual-like violence that left me astonished. I didn’t think this anime was about that, I thought it was all about romance… unfortunately as the show continued I was right it was mostly about romance – the romance was its biggest weakness. Romance became a big part of the show, so big that in fact the show forgot to develop the action, characters and keep the suspense it generated in the early parts of the anime.

In a sense it was very bitter sweet; while watching this show I pictured a very different way for the directors tell the ending portion of the story. I was hoping that this may end in such a way that all the characters were developed to the fullest extent and that all loose ends where tied up before the ending came so that it would feel epic, sadly it falls short of the goal. There is nothing wrong with the ending per say, I just feel there was more to be done before it rushed to its conclusion. The evil characters redeemed their actions in the last few seconds of the show, which make no sense whatsoever and the romance is very poorly executed considering it was such a huge part of the show. So many loose ends could have been answered but for some reason weren’t.

The story starts out with Aki and Aya two 15 year old twins. On their 16th birthday the whole family gathers at their grandfather’s house, the mood is eerie and full of suspense; the viewer knows something bad is going to happen. The excellent visuals and background music helps accentuate this, and they continue to do so throughout the show.

The story as a whole is very exciting and mysterious, with lots of action and drama. However the weakness comes into play when the romance gets too deep. Usually I am a guy that prefers romance over mindless action, but this anime does not have mindless action, instead it has mindless romance. This is mainly so because of the poor character chemistry between Aya and Touya. It didn’t feel real; it kind of forced the audience to accept their relationship when in fact Aya and Yuhi showed much more development and chemistry. Why does Aya falls for the supposed good looking guy (girl-looking if you ask me) who has zero emotion and character… don’t ask me. Touya may be cool in some scenes but is that really enough to warrant falling in love, it just wasn’t real and I doubt most of the audience bought it, well I sure as hell didn’t. Maybe a girl who thinks Touya was drawn to perfection, but that’s about it. Pukeable chemistry at best.

Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed this show. I just felt if they put a little more effort into it, it would be epic. I really wanted this show to have that epic label because it had me captivated from episode one, I wanted it to be more than just great. I guess the directors just made the wrong choices and focused on the wrong things.

If Aya and Touya weren’t so damn unlikable maybe their romance could have been accepted. And if Touya could have showed any signs of emotion (especially after his memory… you know what) I would have bought the whole deal between them. But he was poorly developed and didn’t seem like Aya’s hero in my eyes. It made much more sense for the hero to be Yuhi.

And the relationship between Yuhi and Chidori could have been developed so much further before the *dramatic thing* happens. If they were better developed by the time sequences came into play, the viewer would have more appreciated and felt the moment.

Also what about Aya’s brother… what happens to him? He completely disappears from the 2nd half of the story only to make a return near the end. Why do this when you can better develop him by giving him more air time to fight his inner ancestor? Nah, why do that when you can use that time to force touya and aya down the viewer’s throats.

The ending was poorly rushed, so damn irritating when animes end up with a shitty feeling once the ending occurs. Why can’t they have spaced it through an extra 2 episodes while developing more tension, this would have appealed more to the viewer if it didn’t end so quickly. And what is this nonsense about Ceres husband becoming all good in the last few seconds… excuse me while I go throw up. Also the ending leaves one to answer unanswered questions about the plot, some are crucial questions.

Well enough about the negatives, it may seem that I dislike this anime but in fact I think it is great. To bad they threw the ball away and it could have been “that” much better. Overall it was a great watch, never boring and always something new happening. Were there any fillers? Hell if I know, all the episodes had meaning to them, to bad they didn’t focus on developing other relationships instead of worrying about the drone Touya and the annoying aya. It sure was an original story and the linking between the characters pasts were really well done, it just missed the developing factor that would/could have left a sparkle in the viewer’s eye. But for what it had and for what it was about, it was damn enjoyable.

Very dramatic, it may bring a few tears. Action packed and well worth the watch.

This is another creation of Yuu Watase, the same person who created Fushigi Yuugi. There are many similarities in this two series, both has a love story, has a fantasy setting and the main characters are both girls and are high school students.

The author can make some interesting plots, I was hooked all the time I'm watching this. There are many emotional moments here, mostly the character's past are the things that got me teary eyed. For example, Yuuhi's past and also Suzumi's, they are sad and surely the audiences felt sorry for them and that includes me. But the saddest part here is when the past of Ceres and Mikagi is revealed, that was my favorite part in the whole series. The ending was good but sad if we remember all of the people who lost their lives, so there was a good feeling and a bad feeling at the same time, an ending is supposed to be a happy one, pretty weird actually, never experienced that before.

Of course it has plot holes, things that will leave you confused and it's time to discuss them. First of all, where did Ceres came from? and the funny thing about this is that she doen't know the answer herself, it should've been explained. Second, Ceres is just one creature, how come she has so many descendsnts existing the same generation as Aya? not to mention that they have powers like Ceres. She's supposed to have just one reincarnation and that is Aya alone but there's so many of them. Or maybe her powers are passed on to some of her descendants and also has ability to look like her? It doesn't make much sense. Third, Tooya's existense is hard to believe. I mean, their explanation is not very convincing. Fourth, the part when Kagami is talking to his investors, how come he have those people? what benefit will they gain if they succeeded in cloning Ceres's descendants? do they want them because they're perfect? Fifth, All of them has a sad past, Aya, Tooya, Yuuhi, Suzumi, Chidori, Shuro, Kagami and Ceres, all of them, though they are emotional, I noticed none of them has a happy past. Last is about Aya and Tooya's love story, just like Miaka and Tamahome's, I'm not interested in them not to mention that their relationship is not appropriate because of Aya being just a 16 year old girl.

Ayashi no Ceres as an anime only superficially touches upon the magnificent storyline that was created in the manga. (In other words, the Tennyo legend and Cere's past). Although the backbone of the story are exactly equivalent and identical, a lot of the good (and bad) side stories were taken out. I thought that these side stories were key for making the whole Tennyo situation a lot darker. Instead, a lot of the "good aspects" of the manga were taken out e.g. Shuro and Chidori (whose presences were already super diluted in the manga). In comparing the two mediums, they each have their own charm. Manga focuses more on the story, Tooya's lost identity, Aya's pain, and Cere's past life whereas the anime focuses more on developing romantic relationships between Aya ... and every other male... (mostly Tooya though) leaving a few mysteries untouched.

Well, this more succinct version is also better because we get to see less of Aya's whiny and depressive nature that was omnipresent in the manga, and made her extremely hateable. This anime proportionately seems to be more on the romance department of the series and in a sense this is better. Either way, I didn't really feel close to any of the characters. The way everything happens seems to be too "tragic" too fast. The incorporation of this Tennyo element with science by the C-genome project just makes it that much weirder.

Anyway, if you want to watch this, or were recommended this anime, you probably aren't going to be into it for its storyline. For girls, all people remember is Tooya, Aya (only by default), and Aki. Yuuhi's role is backseat and despite how much anyone does at all in this series, it doesn't matter. If you watch this anime, you're in it for Tooya's "hotness",attractiveness, and the whole silent hero with mystical past persona. Nothing else. Tooya sound attractive to you? You're looking at the right anime. Else, stay clear from this one.

Ayashi No Ceres was an anime that really put the whole Romance in a different perspective. I must say the love thing that revolves even in a fictional story is very original. Time to rate the rest of this otherwise heart-breaking and dramatic anime

Animation: Was standard but could've been better since it was made in the late ninties. I also like the characters that Motohashi Hideyuki design but the only problem is that he makes most of his characters look the same and it's hard to distinguish from one character to another.

Sound: The OP is the best. The OP brings the overall theme to the anime which is love. Both Eds were so-so. The BGM were good to but nothing special to write home about.

Story: Watase Yuu always seem to put historical facts and stories into his anime and it shows. They really had some nice material to work on their story.

Character: The whole plot mostly revolves around Aya and Ceres with only n episode or two dedicated to the minor characters so don't expect much depth on them.

Value: On the first try you may not understand the whole story but when you watch it the second time you will grasp the overall story so rewatching is recommended.

This was actually on par or better than other romance animes there so you might consider renting or buying the dvd.

This is one of the few anime that I loved so much that I kept watching it over and over again. Whenever I feel bored and needed a dose of some lovey-dovey anime to rewatch, this would be one of my first picks.
ANIMATION: I liked the animation, the characters were nicely drawn out, the colouring suits the anime well. It just missed out on getting a 10 because it's really not up to par to several other anime.
SOUND: Loved the OP and all the ED themes. Background music suits the mood of the respective scenes well.
STORY: Nicely paced out. If I remember properly, there weren't any fillers. Surprisingly not draggy for a 26 episodes anime, I was satisfyingly entertained throughout the entire length. The plot's emotional, and sappy, but if you like that kind, you'll love AnC. Ranks quite high on the romance factor too. ^_^
CHARACTER: Likeable. Their actions can't be ridiculed.
VALUE: So worth it that I went out of my way to look for the original DVDs. ^_^
ENJOYMENT: Thumbs-up. Loved it.
I highly recommend AnC, all the more if you're a romance/shoujo fan.

A great anime made by the same guy who made Fushigi Yuugi. Romance based and very sweet. A must see for all. (By the way, there's action as well).

I really liked the plotline as well as the characters. They were pretty likeable. Recommended.

Being a BIG Yuu Watase fan, I'm a little biased towards her stories, but as with Fushigi Yuugi, I have every reason to be biased where Ceres is concerned!
It's a much darker story than FY, but the romance is just as hardcore! The characters are wonderful, as is the music and when you add the wonderful ending, Ceres makes for a very entertaining watch.

“Toya, let us stay together forever, never seperated…”
“Aya…..yes, I love you….”
“Toya………” (Aya’s eyes start to fill up with tears)
“Do not cry my Darling.” (Toya gentlely wipes away tears….)

Wait, let me puke before I proceed,.............
.................
Anywayz, now I am better and have regained my composure, I can view this anime more objectively instead of fantasizing whacking Toya repeatedly for being so disgustingly sentimental.
Seriously, I have never seen such a unrealistic, hopelessly romantic love tale, the heroine Aya falls in love at first sight of the bishonen Toya.
Here is what basically happens: Aya falls from an overpass, Toya, the hero, of course saves her from the fast approaching car, and Aya, at the first moment their eyes meet, ah! the flame of love is ignited in their hearts, in the first episode of the show.
What proceeds is completely predictable: awful things happen to Aya, Toya swears to protect her at all costs. Certain events happen to conveniently demonstrate ot me the unbreakable bonds and undying love between the couple. Had the base of Aya and Toya’s relationship been properly explained and developed, I would have accepted and genuinely enjoyed their lovey-dovey moments, (or rather, episodes) yet to imagine the “connection” between the polar personalities between Aya and Toya, the former is an outgoing, loud and careless girl, the latter being a cool puppet, all his heart intent upon finding back his identity, is just plainly impossible. I more than once cringed at the incredibly “touching” dialogs mentioned above. And the worse thing is I had to sit throught more than one of such converstion…. sweating profusely -_-”'’
But once I got over the sick part of the show, the remaining portion is actually very enjoyable. (aside from Toya of course)
I have to admire Yuu Watase’s creativity for expanding and sometimes distording the Celestial maiden lengend into Ayashi no Ceres, through the whole time, I was left guessing the identity of Toya and what’s with his supernatural abilities, and the fate of Aya and Ceres. In the end, Yuu Watase threw out a major plot twist that left me speechless, and unpredicatable plot, as a rule, never fails to entertain.
The show featuures one or two properly fleshed out side characters and a bunch of glass wearing bodyguards who’s only job is to appear out of nowhere to shoot the good guys yet to die just as quickkly under Toya’s ruthless dagger. The funny thing is Mikage’s manical obsession with “his woman’ Ceres is clearly here just for making more gripping drama, and in addition, Mikage himself is revived out of the manga-ka’s concern that there is *gotta* be someone who has to fulfill the mandatory role “Super-Evil-Villain” to pose obstacles for the our angst-filled lovers from attaining happiness.
What partially ruins the pleasure of watching this series is poor direction. Ayashi no Ceres suffers severe pacing problems, by that I mean, the scenes that have great potential to be Mai-HiME-esque exiting and entertaining drags on and on, so there it is, the moment is gone. Thus the feeling of infuriating emptiness never leaves me during the whole time.
Since the show was made more than a decade ago, if I recall correctly? So animation is nothing to drool over, but it does get the job done decently, and since I am not that particular about animation, animation earns a passing grade from me.
A diverting one time watch, Ayashi no Ceres is, but could have been infinitely better if an able direction had directed the show.
ps: And by the way, I have serious problems with people who refer to Ceres as “Goddess of passion, a diginified woman, ideal maiden” or whatever fancy praise they can think of just by looking at the photo of a frail woman.

Ayashi no Ceres... i really didn't have any hopes for it, but it actually turned to be quite a solid anime... aldough i have to say that even dough the story is interesting and well built and never boring, there is something that i really can't point out that doesn't appeal to me in this anime, and i don't know why but i think, by the way it's drawned and by the way it deals with some things that this anime would appeal more to girls than guys, even dough it has some really bloody scenes.

Animation:
It's made in 2000 but it kinda reminds me of the mid 90's, similar to animes like Tenchi Muyo and Martian Successor Nadesico... i wouldn't call that bad, but it looks to shoujo to me... the guys look more feminine the girls while the girls look uggly, the movements and action scenes aren't breath taking either, i would say submediocre for that period.. one thing that surprised me was the great car design... i mean porches look like porche.

Sound:
Voice acting was good, aldough i can't say will remember any specific voice, i rarelly do anyway, it has to be something sensational to do.... Bg music? i can't really remember, it does have good op/ed themes.

Story:
It has a surprisingly good story, well developed and played out with no real plot mistakes or lacunes... well there are a few things in the story that seem way to far fetched... but overall, it manages to keep you interested as it never gets boring, it has it's share of romance (a quite good romance and not as childish as most of the love stories you see),action, violence, drama and mystery all blended the right way... but still, why does it seem so girly? it is as everything is seen from a girls perspective... and somethimes it just feels that the drama is forced upon us since they kinda exagerate with some things.

Characters:
Well developed and well played out but not really original... and i didn't really get atached by anyone, i didn't even liked the main character. Aya is quite a standard character, and so is Touya (is it just me or does he kinda resemble Mamoru from Sailor Moon? i mean his mysterious traits and his way of beeing are kinda like that, man i hate those kind of people)...and the rest are normal too, not very deep dough.

Value and enjoyement:
Well for some reason, and against all it's strong points, this anime didn't really appeal to me... it just seems too feminin... But if you're a girl you'll like this.

I enjoyed Ayashi no Ceres, but my favorite part of the anime is Scarlet, one of the theme songs.

The plot is mediocre and ends up not being very strong, and left me mostly uninvolved despite a great deal of potential and some great points.

I would recommend watching it, as it is interesting enough to be worthwhile, but with the warning that it does not reach its potential for promised excitement.

i felt weird after watching it. i mean good plot, great drawings(touya!). i really felt for touya and his story but i feel that the potential parts that could make e anime more memorable was not expanded enough.. i like romance stories. but i was really irritated with the relationship between aya and touya after a while.. and it came to a point that i couldn't really stand aya. haha. i also didn't really get some parts of the story.

i guess the story would have been definitely more touching if i havent found aya irritating. Having said that, i feel that the idea for the plot was pretty good and it wasn't that bad. recommended to those who can stand long romance stories.

well.. i LOVE the manga, but the anime would've been much (!!) better if they'd made more episodes... everything was too short and not explained enough, i wasn't feeling anything when something happened to the charas. furthermore it seems pierrot didn't have enough money... the chara designs look very good most of the time, but the cels aren't moving at all too often! there is very few movement in this anime, it almost seems like they used all their money for the CGs... the anime appears like a drama CD with images >_> hm well... the seiyuus did quite a nice job. there were some memorable tracks but that's it for the OST. the endings and the opening however are quite nice to listen to... although the opening theme 'scarlet' would be a better ending theme. there really could've been a theme that fit an opening more. Taking everything into account the anime of Ayashi no Ceres is good enough if you just want to see the most important things from the manga animated and with sound but if you'd like something equal to the manga... forget it. keep in mind that i really love this series! ... well, the manga that is XD
