| The Movie of Aim for the Ace!
The Animation is very good in my opinion.
I have to agree with rti9 that Hiromi motivation seems a little missing.. but i just noticed that when he said it.. so ^^°
The setting with her trainer seems interesting to me(especially the phone calls)
I think it is a good roundup for the series plot.
Also i like very much the drawing style ^^

| "Aim for the Ace is revered as one of the all time classic sports/shoujo shows and is acknowledged as the origin of the "girl's training school" subgenre that includes series such as Princess Nine, D4 Princess and Gunbuster. In fact, the full title of Gunbuster, "Top O Nerae: Gunbuster" (Aim for the Top: Gunbuster) is a direct homage to the classic Ace O Narae." (John Opplinger - Animenation)
Just like the Candy Candy movie, I was curious to watch such an important title in anime history. In both cases I settled with the movies since it shouldn't be an easy task to find and watch the TV series of such old titles.
The Ace no Narae movie seems to work as a full recap of the entire TV series. This is good and at the same time really bad. It's good because I was really curious and this movie lets you have a glimpse of how the show worked. Although sports manga have played an extremelly important role in Japan since the post-war period, it should have been a whole new challenge to animate it. The problem is that just like almost every recap, rhythm and story development are thrown into the toilet.
I respect the importance of this anime but I can't overlook that, at least in the movie, I didn't see any sports passion in Hiromi. She practices and plays game after game but I don't understand why she goes on with it. Makunouchi's quest to become stronger and Hikaru's rivalry are the feelings I'm looking for.
This old sports anime melded with cheesy shoujo mellodrama deserves our respect, but enjoyment is another story. I recommend Hajime no Ippo and Hikaru no Go instead of this completely surpassed sports anime.
