| Despite the overall hype surrounding this title, as a horror movie it fails miserably. Had they just finished the story in the second episode it would be a decent watch. But dragging it further to episode 4, adding even more ridiculous elements and testing my patience as to whether this farce would end, make this one of the worst horror OVAs I watched.
The graphics and sfx are decent, the voice actors as well (Japanese cast) but there are much better horror animes out there, even if none is actually scary (except if you're hypersensitive and new to the horror genre).
Another interesting feature was that instead of using the 1000 revamped scenario of the horror happening in a big modern city, they chose early 20th century Tokyo. A novelty indeed but they didnt use the historical potential to the full extent. A background of Masakado or the arch-villain would be interesting but instead the same repeated story drags on and on for what could have lasted just 2 episodes.
In the end I hopelessly waited for this to end as it seems that not only earthquakes occur because some spirits are anxious but also the stellar events are influenced by that too. So geologists, astronomers and spiritualists gather together to fend off evil.
I havent seen a more ridiculous scenario.
If you think animated films cant scare you (I mean if you're an adult), they sure can. Just watch the short movie "Harpya" on Youtube. But even if ithey cant scare you, at least they should make you respect them. The OVA of Vampire Miyu did so, Kawamoto's "Oni" even more.
But from this title one can infer that the only doomed are the anime and the poor viewers themselves who'll have to sit through this shit and endure it till the end.
Not recommended.

| There are many good things about this OVA. It has a good story and characters. The animation is pretty good. And I like music and the dub is okay. But this could have easily been a much shorter movie. I liked the overall story but it dragged on so much that it bored me. But overall even with that big flaw, I did enjoy it.

| All in all Doomed Megalopolis is a straightforward OVA with little story but some very interesting images and some nearly poetic animation concepts. Many dislike DM, siting that it is unambitious and stagnant with touches of the sadism that X the movie contained. This is true, I will not deny it, but I will also say that for the short duration of its play time I felt as though I was understanding some characters while generally fearing others. I suppose what I am getting at is while DM might lack consistancy in its story it does present a poetic ambience all its own and for that it is a mark above for me.

| I first heard about this anime in a book i had to read in one of my college history classes, if you can belive it.
It sounded very good, a dark horor anime that could be called a classic. Sadly, this just wasnt my cup of tea. It reminded me alot of the X movie, which i also had a hard time getting in to.
So, i guess if you're a horror anime buff you'll probably like it. Or if you really enjoy things like X, you'll like it as well. If not then its about 50/50.

| The first three episodes of Doomed Megalopolis is very good but the last episode was a bit weak. The creators does a very good job in creating a dark horror atmosphere but in the end, things seem to wrap up too neatly. I'm glad I watched it but don't plan on watching it again anytime soon.
