The plot is simple and straightforward and enjoyable in that things get wrapped up in, sadly, only five episodes. The main protagonist is definitely one you just have to love, or at the very least begrudgingly respect, although, there aren't many strong supporting characters. The underlying comedy and awesome fight sequences are strong positives for this short-lived series.

This is a good, if incomplete OVA series that was quite a bit of fun to watch when I first discovered it. The animation is dated by the standards of today, but otherwise the plot and characters still hold their own. The biggest complaint would be that episode 6 was not planned to be the final episode so the series ends in the middle.

I wouldn't actually say you watch this anime for the story. If your going to watch it, see it for the characters! All the characters you meet and what they go through will only make you laugh so hard you'll feel like your sides are going to burst. It'll definitely pick you up if your having one of those days...

It doesn't help that I'm not a big fan of the looks of older anime and it definitely doesn't help that I watched this anime in its dubbed form rather than its subbed form. Still, I tried to take this into consideration when I scored the anime but I can't help but say this is a terrible anime.

The plot overall may be okay, but the little things make it seem cheesy. For example, a girl gets covered in goop that makes her clothes dissolve. That's a pretty a pathetic way to throw in gratuitous nudity, if you ask me. It's anime like this one from which people derive those bad anime stereotypes.

Don't bother wasting your time with this anime. There's nothing special about it to distinguish it from any other anime so if you've seen bad anime before, you've seen this one. If you're into fantasy or monsters or swords, then check out Berserk instead.

Bastard is worth watching... It's really quite funny. With numerous references to rock bands of different genres and amusing one-liners that sound great both in japanese and in translation this series is short, harmless fun. Just don't nitpick and rememeber to point and laugh at its poor execution.

A lot of good character designs. But unfortunately, it dragged in the OVAs, and as I found out, the OVAs were quite true to the manga developments as well. Which makes this a little unfortunate. The whole religious fantasy take could have been taken up a notch. Lots of cheap comedy and gratuitous violence and echi areas without serving puzzles to the bigger picture.

I believe this serie is just a sort of commercial for the much longer manga serie. It's purpose is to make the viewer want more, thus considering buying the manga. In my case, Bastard sucseeded in it's job.

Though the animation is old and outdated, it's not that bad. What bothers me though, is that the first few episodes seemed to be less nicer animated then the last.

The sound isn't special, in fact, I really can't remember a tune that stick in my mind. The Seiyuu, on the other hand, are great. The Seiyuu for Dark Schneider is great!

As I said before, the story is just a preview of it's manga counterpart.Although short, it's sweet. The first eps are not as enjoyable as the 2 last, where the story really gets going, and the ending is open. (But that's logical in these sort of OAV ex. Angel Sancturay)

The Characters reminded me of InuYasha, although this show was made before IY, I watched it later on ;)
Dark Schneider is your typical badass guy with a bad attitude who turns good halfway.
Yoko and the others are just damsels in distress imho..

If you're considering watching Bastard, keep in mind that it isn't finished. If you do watch it, enjoy!

Well, I liked the movie.
Little spiritual superpower combat fantasy, and a love story together.
The 2 elements a person needs.

Turn your brains off and relax. I bought Bastard only with that in mind and it worked. The story is entertaining to a point, too much thinking ruins it. Some of the ideas are pretty wild (The slime will eat your clothes!) and doing magic requires you to mumble something and yell spell's funky Engrish name. Ahh, my relaxation has reached the top. The most annoying thing was the end. When the series ends with "the real war was just beginning" it really makes feel like I just watched a 3-hour manga commercial.

Characters are usual cliched people. The first episode was pretty dull because there was so little Scheider in it. When the story drops the annoying little kid and concentrates on Schneider everything is so much better. His voice is great: the r's sound good. His old buddies are nice too (a ninja master, yay!). The two girls are just something nice to look at.

Don't watch Bastard for anything intelligent, there is no such thing in it. It's just an old-fashioned, brain-empting, kick-your-ass-cool anime.

I bought Bastard without even knowing what it was about. I just thought the title sounded cool( I know, I'm stupid but it was very cheap). 6 episodes later, what can I say. Animation is good but not magnificent, voices are good, story...well,it just doesn't end really and you'll either love Dark Schneider or hate him. Very cocky but very good. Strangely enough, one of the scenes, Gara's final attack let's say, has got to be one of the best anger power up scenes (very common in anime, "I'm pissed off now and seem to be a lot more powerful than before" kind of thing). I'm not sure really why but I loved it. Possibly not an anime to buy but I'm pleased I have coz I can watch that scene over and over....I'm sad I know!

I found this show to be very entertaining. Sure it wasnt the best of story (and the dubbed version i watched only made it harder) and the animation is older, but this show has a lot going for it.
Its got great action and wonderful chracters. They were good enough for me to enjoy this show, and its not like the other categories were lacking too much either. Plus there are NO filler episodes!

I would recomend this show to all who enjoy good and short action animes.

I enjoyed Bastard enough to see it through, but there were some boring moments which I didn't quite like.

The voices of the characters are OK, maybe abit more, but I must say I would have wanted them to be different, and better. But the music is quite good, and the characters were nice.
The story was so-so, animations was quite good for being a show from 92, I'm impressed.
Allinall, this is a quite good show, but you don't miss too much if you deside not to watch it.

This anime is just plain fun. Unfortunately it was not picked up by fans fast enough to extend production. The story is interesting but the real genius is two fold:
1) the dubbed version has some hilarious sections of bad translation that the subs just cannot match.
2) the never ending sexual innuendos by the animators (i direct your attention to princess during the ladder scene in the second episode)

I never really wanted to watch this anime in the first place, but I was in a slump of haven't seeing very many in quite a while. My friend happend to offer this to me and, on a whim, I decided to watch it.
After watching this, I smacked myself in the head for not have seeing it earlier.
The only complaint I have is "WHY?! It needs to go on!"

Long after the fall of mankind, the world has taken to the old ways of kingdoms and sorcery to survive. Five traveling warriors and sorcerers calling themselves the Lords of Chaos have conquered most of the land, and now set their sights on a kingdom of Clerics. It is there that their leader, Dark Schneider, becomes imprisoned in the boy Luche Len Len.

15 years later, the remaining Lords of Chaos have returned, and Dark Schneider is released to defend the kingdom he once tried to conquer from his former allies. The personality of the pure and loving boy Luche Len Len has become one with Dark Schneider's chaotic nature, including Luche's love for the girl Thea Noto Yoko. With new found reasoning, Dark must now face down his own comrades in battle.

Bastard!! comes from a time when anime was rather different than what we see today. OVAs were all the rage, fan service and nudity was thrown in just for fun, and anime titles rarely made sense and didn't seem all that unusual. Sticking strictly to all of the above, B! is exciting, action packed shounen adventure, if perhaps rather shallow. It does pack in some tasteful shoujo story without bogging down the pace.

B! is packed with wall to wall battles, violence, blood, and dotted with nudity and fan service just for laughs. If the simple, straight forward action anime of the 90's appeal to you, this will be no different. Which isn't to say that B! comes off completely generic either. The characters are really impressive and memorable, especially Dark Schneider himself. Aside from having possibly the coolest name ever, his powers are unfathomable and his ego shows it. If you're sick of wimpy, whining anime guys, Dark is your boy.

Likewise, Yoko, Princess Shira, and Arshes Ney are quite refreshing from the typical whining, useless, and ditzy girls. These gals are fun to watch, more than able to handle themselves, and absolutely gorgeous. Just about all the side characters and villains, from the important to the extras are all given a respectable amount of depth. They're clearly more than just cookie cutter character traits.

So even if there's not a whole lot of depth, B! is an awful lot of fun even 12 years later. Filled with action, battle, sorcerers, adventure, romance, and lots of girls, there's plenty to enjoy and it stands up well to repeated watchings over time. A good classic OVA that's well worth the watch if you come across it.

This is nice. Very nice, actually.
For a fossile, this is surprisingly cool.

True, the animation is old, but hell, for an OVA from '92, this is top-notch! Nowadays, it's not that much to look at, though..

Sound - The music wasn't special, but still, it felt weird when you couldn't hear it at all because of all the sound effects. BUT, when I consider the fact that this is from 1992, it's good.

Story - YES! YES! YES! ..Wait, what about a sequel? The thing is, you get really sucked into it, then they open up a bunch of new threads in the last 3 minutes of the show. "What the hell", is what you think. I mean, what the hell! Is this all? I'm leaving an N/A on the story, because.. If there's a continuation, it'd get an 8 or 9, but if this really is all there is, it's a 5 at most.

Characters - Yes, yes. Yes! Very nice chars.

Value - Worth watching again.

Enjoyment - It's kind of original, even though the concept is slightly mediocre. Well worth the watch.

Bastard!, is the kind of anime that I wish was more prevalent nowadays, an anime I can sit down and enjoy. While not being one of my favorite anime series, I still enjoyed it quite a bit.

Animation - Didn't completely blow me away, but for it's time it has great quality.

Sound - Spells, explosions, and plain old fighting drowned out the music, but it was still pleasing to the ears.

Story - I think the story is great, but it is left wide open after the 6th episode, I thought for sure that there were more episodes than six, but there's not.

Character - Character detail was great, I enjoyed all the characters, but the 'bad-ass' characters are still my favorite, and this series has a few.

Value - Although it's not one of my absolute favorites, I sill will watch this again, sometime in the future.

Enjoyment - Overall it's a great anime, didn't blow me away, but I really enjoyed it. It had this whole RPG atmosphere to it with the spells and techniques, that gave it a little character of it's own.

Bastard! features some amazing animation for its time, as a matter of fact it looks to have come out nearly a decade after it in truth did, that's damn impressive. However Bastard! gets shortchanged in the story department, leaving the story wide open and the promise of a sequel that never came. Still its fun characters and queer antics make it an exciting and entertaining trip worth about $30.

Heh, this is prety good, it's a prety good mix of action and comedy. Some of the jokes are a bit, well, over used, but at that time it wasn't so, so i wont lower it more. The animation was perty good back then, even though it's obsolete now. The sound is ok and the voices fit the persons. The sound track is a bit unnoticable though... This anime gives you a strange feeling that i can't describe... I recognise it, but i can't remeber. Also, it's quite fun to watch it for one reason: Dark Schneider!!! You just have to love that name!
