| Inuyasha the Movie: Affections Touching Across Time is a 100 movie released in 2001 involving an adventure which took place during the Inuyasha anime series. The movie is strictly aimed at viewers of the Inuyasha anime series, and can be seen as a lengthy OVA episode.
Affections Touching Across Time has character designs which are slightly different to the anime series. The reason behind this is because the animation studio focused on making the movie resemble the original manga rather than the anime series. Although this does not result in a downgrade of quality by any means, viewers of the anime series might initially feel discomfort with the slight variations in the characters. Apart from character design, the movie's quality is good. Since it was originally released in 2001, the anime series were still in the early stages. As a result, there is no use of computer generated graphics in the movie, and some scenes do not look as clean as the later episodes of Inuyasha. Nevertheless, background detail is lush, and the animation is fluid. Viewers who favour the graphics and animation of Inuyasha will not be disappointed by the graphical aspects of Affections Touching Across Time.
Despite the lack of an opening theme, the movie does have a pleasant ending theme that fits in with the romantic aspects of the movie. The voice actors are identical to the anime series, resulting in very high quality voice acting both in the original Japanese as well as the English version. The background music have also been taken from the anime series, and have been used appropriately. Affections Touching Across Time is therefore good to listen to for viewers of Inuyasha.
The storyline of Affections Touching Across Time attempts to span a range of genres, just like the anime series. However, it does not make the mistake of fulfilling each genre, which would be impossible given its short length. Ultimately, Affections Touching Across Time is an action anime with romantic elements and short scenes of light humour. This might disappoint viewers who preferred the romantic aspects of the anime series, or the humour aspect. As an action anime, it might feel repetitive to viewers of Inuyasha, as nothing truly new is introduced, and there aren't any significant storyline development. However, as an episode of Inuyasha, Affections Touching Across Time is well executed. There is no doubt that viewers of the anime series will be able to follow the story, and fans would enjoy the story greatly.
Since this movie describes an adventure which took place during the anime series, the cast of characters are identical to the anime series. Most of the key characters make an appearance, although the amount of time they appear varies greatly. As one would expect, character development is practically non-existent, although the negative impact of this should be minimal due to the extensive character development present in the anime series.
Overall, Affections Touching Across Time is a good episode of the Inuyasha anime series. Clearly aimed at viewers of the Inuyasha anime series, this movie should not be viewed as a stand alone movie. Fans of the anime would no doubt enjoy this movie very much, although the same might not be true for viewers who have simply enjoyed the anime series. In addition to the fans, I can only recommend Affections Touching Across Time to viewers who especially enjoyed the action aspects of the anime series.

| The first Inuyasha movie takes place sometime after episode 55ish in the series though it is a complete side plot which is introduced and resolved.
Though it was nice to see an improvement in the animation, I didn't find the plot sequence or character development exciting at all.
Overall, it was lackluster in general.
I wouldn't recommend this unless you are an Inuyasha lover.

| Very much like any episode or series of episodes of Inuyasha, this movie is entirely too predictable and simple. A bit of romance, an enemy who wishes to get Testsuaiga and get revenge on Inuyasha's father by killing Inuyasha, etc. All is typical of the Inuyasha storylines from the series.
The characters are also superficial and go through no development; these are the same characters from start to finish. The villians are boring and unoriginal.
The animation is good; the budget is very high in this anime. Backgrounds are detailed and fight scenes are fluid, with a liberal use of bright colors. The soundtrack is, as typical of Inuyasha, very well done.
I would only reccomend this anime if you are a big Inuyasha fan. Even the casual Inuyasha fan will probably be a bit bored by the unoriginal nature of the storyline.

| Movies based on series, particularly long running shounen series, are known for being decidedly average. Though personally I have had only one other experience in this regard (Naruto Movie 1: which was good, not great) I can now see why this is the stigma. “Inuyasha Movie 1: The Love that Transcends Time” is not a bad movie, in fact at times it is quite impressive, linking to the series in a way which few movies do (movies based on series are usually “standalone” so as not to alienate anybody) however somewhere in between priming new audiences and pleasing old ones the film sadly loses direction.

| Love Which Transcends Time is probably one of the better anime movies out there that doesn't affect the main storyline. Taking a break from Naraku's evil and slick schemes to plot two people against each other, the movie opens up with the shattering of the Shikon jewel Kagome pierced. One of the pieces of the Jewel had ineffected a tree, transformming it into the demon Menoumaru. Menoumaru's and Inuyasha's connection is covered within their family line when Inuyasha's infamous father sealed away Menoumaru's ancestors. That hatred was stored in a tree which Menoumaru wishes to break using a powerful fang. Sesshomaru was apporached first, but deemed much too powerful for them to handle. Inuyasha however, has a weakness in Kagome that Menoumaru uses to his advantage. Though how will Inuyasha fight to his full extent, when a weakness he can easily dipose of, is around?
The TV series is lacking in many areas that the movie improves upon. The fights are obvious. Anyone can tell you, except for the fangirls, that Inuyasha has weak fights and no sense of direction. At least here, some sense of techniques were added to make use of the great material for a great fight scene. I mean, with Sango's awesome abilities as a ninja girl, you'd expect more from her than simply swinging her monstrous boomerang around. We finally get to see the potential Inyuasha fights were missing in the TV anime. Though compared to other series, the fights are still weak. The only people who will be satisfied are those who have watched the TV series, but outside of that fanbase, who will be watching it anyways?
Inuyasha is also a love romance. The story behind what happens to Kagome deep later on is quite touching, but was executed rather poorly, just like in the TV version. There isn't enough development in the story to make it tear jerking, which it had potential in being. It wondered me, so much time had passed by, yet neither the story or character departments were progressed nearly as much as they should. If there was 30 more minutes of developing the love scenario, then without a doubt this would have been a fantastic movie. But it doesn't seem that way. Still, it's a great concept and quite imaginative, but these moments are better left off with people experienced in that field.
What is fantastic though is the animation, music, and presentation. The fights, like explained before, is a huge step up. The animation itself has noticeable improvements. The atmosphere in the TV series seemed to be quite inconsistent, but that's not the case with Love Whichs Transcends Time. Although there is one instance where the mood is completely ruined by the petty arguing between Kagome and Inuyasha. Thankfully all the other parts are intact. The music is as great as ever. Although normally an original soundtrack would be accompanied with the movie, not reusing the tunes in the show. However, Inuyasha has by far one of the best soundtracks in anime. So it's pretty tough to argue in this area, unless you despise both classical and Japanese music.
You can clearly tell that more effort than usual has been put towards this movie. Anime movies usually have that TV feeling to it that makes it not feel like a movie. Love Which Transcends Time actually has that movie feeling to it, feeling as if it has no affiliations with an anime. This is usually because the company relies on the license to sell. It's appreciative that Inuyasha avoids that type of marketing, even though it's doing it anyways. Fans of the anime should definitely check this out.

| This is pretty much what I expected from the first Inuyasha movie.
It had all the main characters cropping up somewhere, an introductory start explaining what the story is about, and the overall familiar tone of the series.
The visuals were pretty nice. They were stepped up noticably from the series - everything appeared sharper with better effects, but as a stand-alone I've seen better. The character detail was still simplistic, and the fluidity of animation varied from scene to scene, but overall, the composition was good and the style was decent. The action scenes were also a little vairied - sometimes looking stunning and sometimes lacking.
The sound once again trumps over the rest of the aspects. The music is SO atmospheric and suitably eerie that it makes the movie feel better than it actually is. The sound effects were great, voice acting ok, but the opening/closing themes were a bit dire.
The story was typical for Inuyasha. It fit in well with the series and had all the common qualities. Nothing bad for the series, but nothing particularly great for a movie. I watched this movie about 4 years after retiring from the series and instantly remembered the feel of the series and what Inuyasha was all about. I also remembered partly why I gave up the series was because of the repetitive nature of the plot - which continues here.
The characters are a bit below average here. Watching this movie made me realise how much I've begun to get more and more irritated by them. They aren't terrible, but it's just so predictable to watch them and their same old routines. As usual, the focus of Inuyasha and Kagome's relationship danced around the topic of love, but never stepped into it. The villians of the movie had some tradtional Inuyasha-villian powers, with whatever silly motives drive them.
Overall replay value is zero. I don't see how I'd ever watch this again. In the end I got a sub-par impression of the movie, and it reminds me why I'm not bothering to continue the series again. If I had enjoyed the series more (if it had been a 49 episode series rather than a hundred and whatever), I think I would have enjoyed the movie more. Unfortunately, that isn't the case.

| Overall, pretty much the same as the show, just a little longer and instead of being drawn out over a couple episodes, it was slapped into one movie. There was no story progression and IMO, nothing that really distinguished this as a movie that needed to be separated from the series. Enjoyed it, but there was no real value!

| (watch some of the main series before watching this)
This movie was pretty interesting and the action was good but I couldn't help but feeling like this was just a long episode. If you want the full "InuYasha experience" then you should watch this, but if you only watch the series from time to time then you aren't missing too much.

| Inuyasha the first movie is essentially a really entertaining 100min Inuyasha special.
The story itself has nothing to the main storyline from the TV series, and as such, there isn't really any character development at all. There are a few touching moments in the movie that is worth watching, but nothing important enough if you have missed it.
The animation is changed quite a bit from the TV series, especially on the character designs. This is really evident on Kagome as her face looked really out of place on some scenes. Other characters have a slightly different looked too, but they are not as bad as Kagome.
I really wouldn't pay to go to the movie theatre to watch this movie, but I would rather wait till the DVD comes out or like in Japan, when they will show it on TV (but probably never will in North America...).

| This anime wasn't as good as i had expected. There isn't any suspense and i could predict the ending. There's nothing special about the story and i don't think there is a need to make this movie. They could just put this in some episodes in the TV series. The enemy was so easily destroyed. I was hoping that it would end quickly when i was watching. The animation in the TV series is better in my opinion.

| The first Inuyasha movie Affections Touching Across Time, is pretty good. This movie does not quite live up to the greatness of the T.V. series, but is a solid side story introducing new enemy Menomaru. If you want to know more read my review.

| ***Note this review shall be the same for all Inuyasha movies***
Unfortunately the movies do not feel as great they might as well be incorporated in the TV series as story arcs. Totally cliched and adds nothing to the main storyline. I was dissapointed enough at the ending of the series and hoped the movies might finish something but that didnt happen. Instead we get something like filler episodes that happen to be movies. Apart from the music and animation there is nothing else to praise much about.

| Well, the story was kinda what you can expect for a first inu yasha movie, all main characters are present (except naraku) although the role of some of them is compltely unneeded.
Storywise this wasn't the greatest thing ever, basically it something of a 3 episode show that would fit in perfectly into the actual tv series. The fights however were pretty good (this compared to the often "kaze no kizu and everything dies" kinda fiht happening too often in the tv series. Animation was good but sometimes a bit weird.
My main complaint is that they tried to put everything that the tv show has into one movie, being comedy, kikyou, romance between kagome/inu yasha, kikyo's sister, IY father etc. On the other side this is rather normal for a first movie.
Characterwise no complaints, there are no changes compared to the tv series, so all is well :)
As an Inu Yasha fan you have to see this movie, it's pretty enjoyable although I'd place it on the level of an average quality episode in the tv series, not a waste of time but not the best either.

| The movie was pretty good. I was a bit surprised by the animation which was quite different from the series. It took a few minutes for me to get used to it.
It was kind of disappointing that the movie had pretty much nothing to do with the series but other than that I found it quite ok. The music was very good and the characters lovely. There wasn't much of a story though, but it's a movie after all and it's hard to squeeze in a good story in such short time.

| Pretty decent animation. Pretty decent sound. Not-so-decent story. Not at all, really. It is extremely predictable and not really very interesting either way. The characters are fine...--the same as the TV series. It is only moderately enjoyable. I don't recommend watching this.

| While I enjoyed the comedic scenes and Kagome-Inuyasha moments, the movie had problems with its animation and its villian, Menomaru.

| I like the Inuyasha manga and anime, but this is movie is somewhat... empty. The most interesting part is Miroku and Sango's fights, which is very spectacular. The rest is just predictable and somewhat boring. But it's OK for die-hard fans, I guess. Give it a try, at least for that scene.

| It's a bit more enjoyable and fun than the tv series, but it's still cliched, predictable, and has unoriginal characters up the wazoo. Hence, the first movie's score is still lower than the tv series' score.

| HHmmm this is just a very long ep.
The story doesn't advance the characters grow a bit but in the end we still aren't further in the development then in the beginning.
It is fun for an inu fan but nothing special and not a big recommender.
