It is difficult to tell whether this OAV set is a parody of the "harem" genre of anime, or is seriously attempting to be humorous or dramatic.

The animation isn't too great; character faces are very similar, and the "teachers", for the most part, look more like middle school students than 25-30 year-old teachers. The outrageous "Love Hina esque" character launching/explosions were also not humorous.

The Opening/Ending songs are pretty bad; they both seem very amateurish and arn't catchy or pleasant to listen to. The childish voices which the seiyuu utilize for the teachers goes well with their unrealistic childish bodies, but are still annoying to listen to.

The story is pretty much "Ah! My Goddess!" except with teachers instead of Goddesses. We never find out how they came to live with Chisoto, why, or how they all decided to do so at the same time. Apparently, Chisoto never agreed to let them live with him, so one wonders why they just moved in without asking.

Of course, Chisoto and all of the girls make the generic trip to the beach, there is the generic "bath scene"and, of course, a couple childhood friends (girls, of course) unexpectedly show up in failed attempts to create "drama".

As to the characters, they are all shallow and generic (the anime even has two characters named "B" and "C" that point out how generic their characters are every episode). The outrageous and completely unrealistic actions of the characters fail to be amusing, and instead make the characters seem even more flat and one-dimensional; it seems they are there only to provide amusement and, failing at that, they are useless.

There is no development in this anime; characters are the same flat, uninteresting characters from the beggining to the end of this anime. The introduction of a couple of Chisoto's childhood friends does little for his character and merely accentuates the ridiculousness of this anime.

I would not reccomend this OAV series to anyone; I will not be rewatching it. I plan on watching the TV series later, so maybe the TV series will succeed where this OAV series fell short. I did not enjoy this anime very much at all; I didn't find any of the antics amusing, and disliked pretty much all the characters.

Not much can be said to this OVA that i havent really said about the TV series, this is basically 3 episodes (there were 5 episodes but the other 2 weren't released for some reason) of Happy Lesson. One of which is a remake of the first episode of the TV series, so only two episodes were worth watching, though its nice to see the small changes in the first episode.

2nd episode is nothign more than a fan-service based episode with complementary hot spring and beach episode in one, which also brings about the introduction of Hazuki, Chitose's 'big sister'.
3rd episode is the introduction of the very cute and 'best character' Minazuki, so cute and innocent, this episode is basically how she arrived in town, and with slight touches on her background and stuff.. thogu hit has that generic childhood friend deal with it.

Thoguh the 3 episodes aren't really worth commenting on, one thign to note imo, is how Mutsuki mama is develoepd in these 3 episodes. Her presence is well noted and is the leader in the pack of becoming Chitose's mama, especially in the last episodes where she acted like a real mom with developed feelings fo Chitose.

Other than that, this OVA isn't brilliant, but it certainly is worth watching if interested in the tv series.

Overall: 6/10
Grade: C

I watched this after the TV series and in some ways it was a little better and in other ways, not as good! It was a little too short, although I suppose that was to leave the way open to the TV series the following year.
The storyline was a little more interesting than the TV series, but too short to really get into anything that was happening.
Definitely worth watching, but I'd rather have seen this first.

The animation is pretty good, so is the quality. The sound is alright too. There are no annoying character's voices that you want to make then shut up.

This is the start of how the five teachers came to live with Chitose. Also their reason is when they found out that Chitose was a orphan, so they wanted him to have a warm house to live in.

This is pretty funny and i really enjoyed watching it. I totally recommend it to everyone to watch it. Also you don't have to watch the OVA to understan the rest of of the anime.

My first experience of the wonder that is Happy Lesson.
Feels rushed is the only thing I can say about it. Kinda like they knew a full length series awaited and they just wanted to run through the characters.
The weakest of the three, by far.
But still very, very good!

Contains (as do all HL) possibly my new fave character in Kisaragi. Oh, way too cool. But, oh, so funny!

And to think, I was reluctant to watch this!

Happy Lesson takes the same type of humor as Love Hina (LH, coincidence?) but puts a different twist in it. Instead of a harem of girls falling in love with one guy, it's five teachers who want to become one guy's mom. Obviously this sets up plenty of slap stick humor and some "love" triangle humor.

Sadly, being only a three episode OVA, they can only do so much. These OVAs are obviously used as an introduction to the HL TV series (read review for that), but I have to rate this set by itself. With so many characters, development was limited, but at least every character is introduced with a personality. Though the personalities are cliche (there's an inventor/mad scientist mom, sports fanatic mom, study mom, miko shrine mom, and art mom), it doesn't detract from the humor.

These OVAs are rather light-hearted with some "drama" towards the end that remains entertaining and enjoable.

Overall, these OVAs are a good watch, especially as they introduce you to the TV series.

Happy Lesson went down realy well with me. Chitose is funny plus the moms are cute and well voiced. The quality of the show itself is good too. Bright animation and good music all around. Not having any normal romance between them is great btw. The mother-son bonding can be quite touching =)

This isnt your normal harem show. If you like the genre you'll love this. If you dont like the harem idea you might want to give this a try, as it puts a new twist on an old anime staple.

Insanity has never been more funny.
It never stops surprising you, one insanity follows the other, had it been longer it might have goten a bit predictable towards teh end, but... The characters arent realy "deep", but hey, this is a gag anime!

The TV series was completely bland, and this OVA makes hackwork of what little the TV series had going for it. It's one of those condensations of a larger work where they really made no attempt to tell a real story or maintain some level of quality. Totally forgettable, and completely missable even if you like the TV series. Just...just stay away. Anime like this just shouldn't make it past the cutting room floor.

I wouldn't particularly recommend the TV series version of it either, but at least it's vaguely watchable, so if you have some horrible need for harem girl anime that manages to have zero sexual tension, then by all means, watch the TV series, just not this.

Same, same, same, lame. Okay, this was slightly better than the series....but not by much. The music is still gaggling, characters still retarded, but great! its ovas so we don't have to bother with storylines!! if you didn't like this/tv series then don't bother with the tv series/this. there are better ways to waste your time. Go play tiddlywinks or something.

This is a very good anime. Really! It's a great addition to the genre one-guy-many-girls. Because it's different. It's not much about "that kind" of love, and the five, beautiful(and sexy) teachers who live with him is nothing but his mothers.

Though it is a little short and hasty, which the TV series changes. Though the TV series tends to be boring instead.

The happy lesson TV series is very good, they used some good CG animation for the series, they used some decent sounds, the story is preety bad, his parents die and so his teachers move in and giveh im echi fanservice fun to fill the gap in his life? Its fairly valueble, im surprised this isant as popular as love hina, i had alot of enjoyment out of the show, even if you dont like the genre i advise giving this a view or two.

The scores I've given represent the 3 episodes in this OVA, not the TV series, which I review seperately. As such, the scores are a bit low since there was not enough time for the character development required for a good story. The 1st of the 3 episodes was the most interesting, as it pretty much explained exactly what the anime was all about. The 2nd episode was almost entirely filler and seemed like nothing more than an excuse to animate the cast in swimsuits. The 3rd episode tried to be very emotional, but due to lack of character development it didn't really work. Still, there is a lot of potential here, even if many of the characters are cliche, and this serves as an introduction to the TV series. Anyone who enjoys cliche animes about 1 guy surrounded by a ton of girls such as Love Hina or Ai Yori Aoshi will probably enjoy this OVA and the series.

The TV version was slightly better than this OVA. If you want more drama, this one would do you good.

This time, Chitose's sister is given more spotlight. At least there's a bit more story to it than the TV series.

Now here’s an old story. Dump a guy w/a bunch of women under one roof. Still, they pulled it off well. The story’s not gonna be like a Love Hina since the women are the guy’s teachers. It’s more of a touchie-feelie story (the guy’s an orphan and the women want to be mommy). It’s a bit sappy, but it’s worth a watch when you’ve not got much to do.

It is just unbelievable that an ova series can have such a bad animation. Character drawings are so poor and edgy. None of the girls are drawn in a fanshion of kawaiiness and beauty.
It doesn't have a clear main storyline and who in the world are those 5 girls? And moms,5?! Creativity is deffinitely not ripping off logic and sense to mess around like bakas as the producers of this series did. For the characters, they are no different than the nonliving background in the aspect of design. They don't have souls or personalities that can touch the audience's feelings. And the immortal rocket punches patented by girls are just too trite to watch. Naru or Motoko can punch and make me laugh doesnt mean that that Ms. President will steal my laughter as well.
A comedy that doesn't make me laugh, a shounen anime that doesn't contain any cuteness, an ova that has such a bad animation quality... This is definitely NOT a HAPPY LESSON.

Classic but I like it more than the other series in the same genre cause it's very funny and the relation boy-mother-teacher-sister seduced me, it's more touching and it's like a family life comedy.Just a preview of the TV series.

Another Happy Lesson review. This one is for the OAV series which came before the TV series. I have to admit that Happy Lesson is one of my very favorite series. It's a lot of fun to watch and it always puts me in a good mood! I just wish it was more popular. A lot of people think it is another Love Hina clone but it isn't. Happy Lesson is not very much like Love Hina at all. Please don't misjudge it.
