| Puni Puni Poemi is certainly not for everyone, which is evident by taking a look at the score and reading its reviews. To some, however, it's one of the funniest piece of animation ever made. The key to "getting" this anime is probably having a real messed up sense of humor, and not having a fanservice complex.
Puni Puni is a spinoff of Excel Saga, and parodies on a number of anime genres (the main issues being sexuality and Sailor Moon-type heroines). This is all achieved in the most fast paced and crazy manner you could ever imagine. Poemi/Kobayashi's tounge can outperform a chaingun, and be prepared to pause sometimes when she peaks if you want to read all the nonsense. While some are apalled by this and/or the entire theme of the two episodes, I'm absolutely fascinated by it, and Puni Puni Poemi is probably the most rewatched show in my collection, with competetion only from Kenshin: Reminiscence and Fumoffu.
The animation of Puni Puni is great, and the artwork superb. There's nothing I can complain about here, but it's still not as good as the best out there.
The BGM fits well, and both the OP and ED are funny. Voice acting is top notch, especially Kobayashi's (I'm infinitely impressed by her speedtalking).
There isn't exactly any story, and that's all a part of the grand joke that's Puni Puni Poemi. Still, they've managed to actually fit a grand plot in there (while intentionally inconsistent and insane). However, you've just got to love the characters. For one hour of entertainment, there's a big cast, and they all have such wonderfully crazy personalities you couldn't even wish for character development!
I've likely re-watched this show ten times or more already, and each time I've discovered something new to laugh about. There is so much going on at the same time, it's impossible to catch all details in one go. As far as replay value and enjoyment goes, this one is a solid, indestructible ten for me.
Watching Puni Puni Poemi is a gamble. You either find it funny, or you'll find it apalling. Either way, it's only two episodes long, so it won't steal that much of your time should you dislike it. If you know beforehand that you don't like crazy humor or can't stand sexist parody, then you can overlook this one with good conscience. If the opposite is true, however, you should definitely give PPP a try.

| To summarize Puni Puni Poemi in blunt terms, it's a variation of the Excel Saga style parody that aims at Japanese sexual culture and its influences on anime, so as you might expect it's quite ecchi. Unfortunately, I don't think it worked quite as well as Excel Saga, as it lacks the framework that allows for cumulative humor. That's not to say it fails to be amusing -- it certainly garners laughs -- but it lacks the ingenuity and subtleties that made its predecessor so appealing.
Though the animation is a step up from Excel Saga, it still by-in-large is the same; the vast majority of changes are merely polishing on some of the rough edges. Character designs showcase the most improvement, but nothing really worth mention. What you saw in Excel Saga expect to see here.
The sound score was a bit of a letdown, though. A handful of new tracks and a handful of rehashed ones. Excel's Seiyuu returns to voice Poemi (hooray!), and a number of popular actors voice the rest of the characters. Not nearly on the level of Excel Saga, but not that bad either. Could have used some work here but I'm not all that disappointed.
The story once again follows a purely random framework, so expect it to follow a trend similar to its predecessor. Because of its length, however, it's hard to script a solid plotline to work the humor around -- it took Excel Saga a good four or five episodes to do so (to get started...all 26 to achieve its desired effect), yet here we only have two. It's still good, just don't expect a great deal of coherence.
As for the characters, they each mirror a stereotypical female archetype found throughout Japanese sexual culture (cool, moe, sports, shy, etc.) I found myself laughing while hanging my head in shame simultaneously, as it shows quite effectively just how blantantly wrong some of the "fantasies" are. Not nearly as memorable, though, as the Excel Saga caste. Again, they work well enough given the time constraint, so no real complaints.
All in all, a pretty good followup to Excel Saga which covers a number of more controversial subjects and thus probably required a different name and face. If you enjoyed Excel Saga, definitely something to look in to; likewise, Poemi will have virtually no appeal if you disliked it. Does not really stand alone all that well, in my opinion.

| To sum up Puni Puni Poemi in one word... "worthless". This spinoff is basically a fast-forwarded,condensed, and more perverted/fanservicey version of Excel saga. To make things worse, there is absolutely NOT A SINGLE second of silence especially because Poemi shoots out words at a rate of 10 words per second... It isn't even that funny... its like the first thing that comes out of her mind and it just leads to more and more other random and unrelated talking.
Parody or not, this isn't that spectacular of a watch. I disliked Excel Saga originally, but this is even worse. I could only imagine the creators probably had a spectacular time making this and thinking up these random ideas, but as a viewer I want my 1 hr back.

| When I reviewed "UG Ultimate Girl", I said it was perhaps the gretest parody anime ever.
Then I saw Puni Puni Poemi.
THIS is the ultimate in parody anime. It takes every anime you can think of, puts it into a blender and then adds some extra fan service, just for good measure. In short, it's cracked out. But it still has a silly story (kind of), so it's not TRULY random. I'm sure the creators had fun making this. I also feel that they were concious in what they did. And that's what keeps it grounded. It would fail completely if it was truly random, with a bunch of unconnected scenes. The fact that it's obviously planned craziness makes it even more fun. It shouts out to so many anime, and insults them at the same time, that you can't help but laugh.
This is not recommended for new fans though. They just won't get it, and then think all anime fans are perverts >_<

| This spin-off of Excel Saga continues the insanity but concentrates mostly on the magical girl genre, which Excel Saga didn't touch on a whole lot.

| Excel Saga is a unique piece of anime. Undoubtebly, it's one of the sickest pieces of animation ever made. Puni Puni Poemi, in it's 2 episodes manages not only to reach Excel Saga's head illness, but somehow to be even more insane. Being a 2 episode-long series, it's just a insane ride for the first second to the last possible moment.
Animation wise...it sucks. Plainly and roughly...it sucks. One of the worst animation I've seen in anime up to date.
Sound...one of the best. It's not the music which is absolutely retarde(the lyrics that is)...but the voices. Excel had a trademark machine gun voice. Poemi doesn't fall behind and at times I had troubles reading the subtitles at her rate of talk. I'm amazed and I feel pity for the seyuu who lent Poemi her voice.
The suporting voices are nothing for the anime to be ashamed off either. Each character has a well suited voice for itself.
The sound sector of PPP is great...not for the OST but for the voices.
Story? What damn story? The tiny thread in PPPis retarded to the brink of inexistence...but the comedy makes up for it.
It's not inteligent humor or something like that. If anything, it's shear stupidity made into action. But somehow, PPP pokes fun at a lot of different anime. The jokes are hard to swallow if you don't know the anime but otherwise, one may consider them some-how clever.
Besides the insane situations, the weird character humor also takes its own cake.
The over-the-top sexual content of some jokes can place this anime into the hentai category as I've seen on some sites but it most definetly is not hentai-ish. Just pure humor, wich just abuses the freedom of speach.
The characters are a bunch of weirdos. Poemi on one hand is a one-man freak circus, the suporting cast are nut-cases with weird powers and the villains are...erm...what ever they are. There is absolutely no development for the characters but who cares about that given the circumstances?!
Weird, over the top, insane....PPP is just madness in motion. I liked the show, I saw it twice...I grasped alot of jokes better at second viewing. Not for the weak of heart, that's most definetly sure.

| If you're looking for an all out laugh Puni Puni Poemi is a must see. Though characters just die just like road kill, you will not find any remorse or guilt what so ever. Puni Puni Poemi is just as twisted as it gets and the story doesn't catually go anywhere...
It's an all out anime parody which you'll find funny. All scenes are exagerrated and overly hilarious! But I don't suggest the series to minors, for it contains very graphical and adult contents which others may find disturbing...
But all in all, Puni Puni Poemi is a show that would make a smile out of any anime fan. ^^

| wow... this has got to be the worst anime ive ever seen in my life. this is what you get when you take a little kids show, mix in some softcore porn and dump a steaming load of random stupidity on top. geez, what were the creators thinking when they made this. there was almost no plot, no character development and the main character "poemi's" voice was so annoyingly fast there was barely time to read the subtitles. the only thing that would have made this worth watching is if it actualy was hentai and didnt censor out all the nudity. i just cant belive how bad this was.

| For one thing, thank god this is so short.
I don't think I could've watched a whole series in this fashion.
You think Excel talked fast? Well, Kobayashi has trained even more...
This is totally crazy (where "Excel" was only mostly crazy) and full of fan service on the border of hentai. It has no coherent story, the characters are hardly explained and nothing makes any sense at all...
But somehow it manages to be totally frikin' funny as well!
Note: Just one thing is oh-so-lame, and that's the fact that almost all the music is taken directly from Excel Saga...

| First, this should be watched only after watching excel saga. Its from the same creator, and some characters are taken from it.
Second, This really is like Austin Powers but more revealing in ecchiness/adultness, though not shown direct, clearly almost all scenes are perverted in some way while maintaining the wierdness of excel saga. Thi is even wierder than Excel.

| The animation is alright. they draw some of them pretty good, but other have a wierd look and stuff like that. Also the person tha they put in at the start of the song is not really good looking or not even funny looking, so there wasn't any point. The sound was not good at all. The openning sound is really bad and not catchy at all. The sound of the characters were some what annoying. If they are going to make a character talk so much like Poemi, the should put a person that has a nice voice, so it won't make it too annoying. Poemi's voice sounds a lot like a guy trying to sound girly, which wasn't really good and didn't really match the voice for the transformed Poemi.
The story is pretty ecchi when it comes to the last episode because it gives the reason for the aliens to attack earth is because of the "hentai".....
The characters are ok. Some of the are really bad without much to do because there is no real plot so there is no need for a well developed character, as long as they are crazy and loud that should do it.
Overall, I didn't really enjoyed watching the anime and the value is not that high for me because i felt more stupider than when i started to watch the anime

| I suppose there was a coherent story once during the creation of this show. Too bad the storyline never made it past the pre-production stage. You get a jumble of excellently animated animals and people and things fighting and whatever.
It looks very good, with plenty of colors and sharp animation. The music was nothing memorable at all. I can't remember the OP or ED(or any music in between, for that matter). Story/character wise, it's just a mess. If you like the random "humor" of Excel Saga, you can enjoy this. If not, avoid it and just find something else.

| I think I was set up for a big fall this time. “P^3 yeah that’s some funny stuff!, “P^3 is one of the best OVAs I’ve ever seen!, and my friends saying “OMG you gotta see this so bad. Sure, I was excited. Heck, it was even advertised IN the Excel Saga anime. Continuing off of that last episode of Excel Saga, it’s got to be a hoot.
So, because of this, I was set up for quite a disappointment. I’ll come out and say it…I didn’t laugh once. I might have snickered, or chuckled a few times. Smiled quite a bit…but didn’t laugh once. My mouth was constantly agape at all the constant things flying at you….but never laughed. I laughed all the time at Excel Saga, but why the difference?
I mean the Sound and Animation were near the same quality – this one had a far more numerous amount of fanservice but still lots of visual gags…maybe too many to take in at once.
Its probably because its just so incredibly made up on the spot, that there virtually is no story or characters at all. Excel saga was a 26 episode work that, despite the sheer amount of humor, actually had episodes with stories. Plots and arcs. And as goofy as the characters were, we got used to them a lot easier. They started off far more docile in the humor department, and got more aggressive as it went. I mean, part of the reason ES’s last episode was so incredibly funny was because it went above and beyond with the characters – even we haven’t seen them in such ways before.
P^3 on the other hand started out even more aggressive than the original’s last episode, and just wouldn’t slow down. I couldn’t stand the main character and her extremely fast speeds. There really weren’t any characters, as far as I was concerned –these are just here for humor and nothing more. And, for me, in this area it failed. Had they either spread out what they had into at least double the size, same humor, made the characters less consistently abrasive, I would have probably had a great time.

| As a continuation of Excel Saga I had high hopes for this anime. I knew it was basically going to be 2 extra episodes of episode 26, so I wasn't dissappointed. Of course it doesn't come close to the greatness of excel saga, but it does provide plenty of laughs.
Nabeshin once again provides a quality battle with Alien No. 1. I have to agree that the aliens were sort of odd.
Again I thought the ending was hilarious and I never doubted Nabeshin for a second.
BTW The girls don't really get tortured, it's just Nabeshin playing mind tricks with you.

| Brilliantly funny, totally weird. As a satire of anime it is wonderful. As a unique work of comic art it is great. The manic, joke-a-second audio and visuals force you to watch this several times to get it all. Kobayashi Yumiko is hilarious as the voice of Poemi, and in her live appearances in the intro and at the end of the second episode. Warning: avoid this anime if you think you will be offended by satires of rampant fanservice and loli-hentai that become what they satirize.

| MAn this is really really really fuuuunyyy, well if your into mature jokes and stuff. The characters always had funny faces, it didnt really make sense but i kept watching it because there was comedy every second of it. The main character is so funny , she talks so fast and i have to get my "speed read" on to tackle the subtitles. The stotry is really fast paced and the script was realy funny too. Even though i heard it was a parody anime, i think i caught a sailor moon kinda parody in it. One spoof i caught was this... remeber in card captor sakura where sakura waas jumpin the vault thingy in PE in slow motion and her eyes were all lit up to give the "wow thats so adorable scene", haha they did it in puni puni poemi but she did it inside an english classroom and fell down. YOu should really check it out, im about to buy the dvd of it now.

| Amongst the best three anime I've ever seen. Rikudo Koshi made excellent work with Excel Saga and this might be even better. Well both of them have their (dis)advantages.
Puni has more bare skin than Excel had but they both have main character who talk over every silent scene. Otherwise these two are quite similiar.
Rikudo&staff are mashed every single joke in the show what they have invented (I thinkin Nabeshin shooting little afromen from his hair and Alien 1 defending from his.. well what ever it is.. was among the best ones) so the show is funny as hell.
Story is nothing but a excuse to tell all those jokes and show those two cute main characters, which of other is a little 12-year-old lesbian and the other is gonna be one =)
Absolutely great anime. Rikudo is the man!

| Think Excel Saga (especially last episode) now add in some FLCL, stir some generic hentai and what you get is Puni Puni Poemi. Is that a good thing? Well give or take, depending on personal preferences.
If you liked Excel Saga, expect something similar here, but expect a more hardcore version of it. This stretches boundaries, sometimes its funny, sometimes it tasteless, but damn thing was still humourous.
Personally i found the anime to be a big blast, it was funny in an excel/flcl kind of way but some of the material shown wasn't greatly received by me. HOWEVER, that's only in the 2nd episode, the first is genius! A fast-talking girl with a lesbian friend who manages to avenge her parent's death while saving the world against a squid, hardly sounds like a good storyline but then this anime isn't meant to have a solid storyline, or one.
Overall, i gave this OVA a 5, this may seem harsh for what it is, but i split this OVA in 2 marks, a episode is worth 5, so 2 episodes = 10.
Overall, episode 1 = 5, episode 2 = 0
Overall, 5
Grade: D+
However, watch it though, i enjoyed the 1st episoide enough to warrant this a good purchase.

| This OVA is more akin to the final episode of Excel than the rest of the series. Perverted and random as hell, with one of the strangest openings ever. Personally I enjoyed it greatly, but I can understand where some of the complaints come from. Whereas Excel tended towards mostly one or two outright parodies per episode, Puni is just endless parodic references from start to finish covering everything from Jojo to GTO. Most of the non parodic humor comes in the form of Kobayashi talking insanely fast and refering to her character(Poemi) as herself, which seems to be where the love/hate kicks in as it annoys some people more than humors.

| Sad to say I am dissapointed at this film. Excel saga melted my heart and made my brain do happy little skips.
(Couldent resist that ^_^)
Although the humor is similar the characters where just so ....
But it was nice to see Nabeshin again.
Poemi just seems an Excel wannabe.
And I get fed up with the magical schoolgirl routine pretty fast.
And the overly "ecchi"nes of it all just didnt apeal to me...
Maybe I just cant get over the fact that the Excel saga episodes didnt last forever... I cant bear myself to enjoy this, it seems just a hollow copy.
