This show reminded me alot of Alice in Wonderland. I actually loved Alice, but this leaves alot to be desired. First off, the show was originally cut down from 25 episodes out of an originally planned 51-52 area.
That being said their was a filler arc toward the end, and they couldn't wrap it up nicely enough and then have a enough room for an ending.
Characters are never fully fleshed out and many questions are left unaswered. The story it's self has a basic premise and few twists here and their but it's nothing groundbreaking at all.
It's also repititve, with the 'Summon of the Day' as I like to call it. The villians are annoying and I found that some of the adults were waay more interresting then the children.
Ai was bratty and annoying and Yu did get some development, but he was still slightly bratty and annoying. Lisa I thought was pretty cool, as was Makenshi and Kaze. Of course none of them are fully developed, so yeah.
The background music is reptitive, and I liked the opening and the second ending song, and the animation was alright, cept the CGI stuff was kinda annoying and didn't look all that attractive sometimes.
As somebody who's never really been a big fan of the games, even though I've enjoed FF7-FF10, this was kinda mediocre.
All and all this anime isn't the worst I've seen, but its a far cry from the best I've seen.
Still it may be worth a look if you love everything FF or if you just like incomplete stories and disjointed pacing.

| While being Final Fantasy, it doesn't quite live up to the standards set by the games. FFU, in my opinion, is presented and shoved along a little too fast. The first five episodes move along at a fast pace and the characters are shoved into an adventure in which they really don't know how to carry out. They moreover just go with the flow and deal with events as they randomly happen.
Ah yes, almost forgot, the intro to each episode is rather annoying. As Fabula our Guide recaps the seemingly obvious occurences of the previous episode.

| This is a fair anime. Like another reviewer said, it's like a kid's anime with FF characters.
There was no effort to blend the gaudy CG with hand created portions. The character designs looked like they came from a decade ago and were just...blah.
There is an awful CG sequence where Black Wind's Magun weapon transforms from a stump into firing mode, he loads it with colored dirt bullets he names, and then it's fired. We get treated to that at least once per episode. The only thing that changes is the dirt color and what he says.
The story was nothing special. Because of all the repeated sequences, such as the one I just mentioned, and the bit at the beginning with Belldandy, er, I mean Fabula our Guide, there is only about 15 minutes of real content per episode.
Despite all it's negatives, I found I couldn't stop watching. The disapponting ending didn't bother me too much. And I don't know why. I think the Earl was controlling my mind. He forced me to watch. That must be it.

| This anime belongs to the types of Pokemon and Digimon but it mixes characteristics of the video game Final Fantasy.
But it could be described something as ''Alice in Wonderland''. This stuff is mainly for kids:

| I started this series with slightly low expectations and nothing better to do. I had played most of the Final Fantasy games and had a casual interest in the series. So I watch it, and in the end I find that this entire Final Fantasy theme only had adverse effects on the anime. Every FF creature that was featured in the anime had at least one instance of saving the helpless main characters. However, the chocobo was annoying, the moogle (the "soil missionary") hardly served any purpose despite all the time wasted on him (and besides being a poor representative of the moogle race), and the cactuars in their own episode late in the series had me frequently rolling my eyes.
Perhaps without the "Final Fantasy", GONZO might have made something decent. As for the "Unlimited," this series is far from it. Even so, I stand by the opinion that this series is extremely underrated. Though the series bares the name of a great RPG line, it is my opinion that the anime scores should be free of the game's influence. Even with the knowledge of FFU being a let-down to Final Fantasy, I still eagerly anticipated the color combonations of Kaze's soil charges in the magun scenes, and wondered what the next destination of Cid's train would be. Forget about Final Fantasy when viewing this series, and you'll find something there that may be to your liking.

| Disappointing. I think that one word sums up everything I felt about this anime. I tried real hard to find something redeemable but I just couldn’t do it. Everything about this show either annoyed me or bored me. It was just so repetitive: the scenery, the music, the jokes, the fight sequences; I felt that I was watching the same thing over and over again each episode. The fact that this anime carried the Final Fantasy moniker set it up for a huge fall because I had high expectations for this show and it failed to meet them. I have a policy of not comparing an anime to any other show, movie, book or game but I couldn’t avoid comparing this show to the games because it carried so many of the same elements: the chocobos, the cactuars, the moogles, the summons, the battle music; it was practically begging you to compare them. It wasn’t as if I was expecting FFVII in anime form or anything of that nature, but when you borrow so many elements from the games, you have to craft a story that is worthy of the rest of this franchise.

| most aspect of this anime is not what would people expect for something bearing the name "final fantasy"
the character is not that great looking as for the story which is quite confusing; quite unique fantasy but not fantastic enough to make it so exciting to follow, the sounds are decent with some taken from the game

| The height of FF mythology this ain't. The sort of wondrous moments which the game line is famed for are totally absent in this anime. The story is dragged down by repetitious battles and depressingly lackluster characters. Even the relatively awesome Kaze and Shiroikumo feel bland.

| At first, this anime was quite interesting. I hadn't seen this kind of graphics before and the kids seemed well off on a nice adventure...
However, around the middle of the series (9+), things made a turn for the worse. A bunch of random things happen, things start to collapse, I don't know what really was going on here.
Characters arne't that impressive... they don't have any depth to them but then again they weren't particularly annoying. They just were there, existed, and walked around exploring this world.
It had some potential but it just took a downfall when it couldn't decide what to do with their journey.

| Being a Final Fantasy fan myself I did have high expectations for this anime. After I finally got to watch the first episode I immediately fell in love with it. The characters Ai, Yu, Lisa, Cid (yes the famous Final Fantasy Cid) Kaze (Black Wind), Chobi...even some of the bad guys Herba, Makenshi (White Cloud) and Crux are all loveable in their own way depending on what Final Fantasy characters you like. For example if you are a fan of Vincent Valentine it is almost certain that you will fall in love with Kaze who bares quite a bit of ressemblence to him...which I'll admit was the first thing that attracted me to him as I adore Vincent Valentine. Ai is more of a bratty character which can be a pain for some viewers but if you are a die hard Final Fantasy fan you will see some characteristics of Yuffie Kisaragi or possibly Rikku. If you love Aerith/Aeris you will most probably love Lisa, if you love LeBlanc you will love Herba (the flirt) and if you like Sephy/Sephiroth or Kuja you will probably like Makenshi (White Cloud). For people who are not Final Fantasy fans they probably won't enjoy this series as they would probably have no idea of what the hell a chocobo is, have no familiarites with moogles (unless they have played Kingdom Hearts) or who the famous Cid is. If you are a Final Fantasy fan I suggest that you check this anime out!

| Wow, been a while since I've reviewed. In any case, I wish this hadn't been my return to anime. While I'm no Final Fantasy buff, I did have a run-in with FFXI, and the music from this series is very much reminicent of the game. As for the story, well, I just have to say, What the heck kind of ending is that? The entire series was just far too episodic for my tastes, and the ending was more of an afterthought. A terrible afterthought, though it may be. I can see why this one has such low numbers. I liked some of the characters, but most of them didn't have nearly the depth or emotion they could have. All in all, a below average watch.

| Why couldnt this anime be more like Final Fantasy? I didnt like the animation to much and it both looked and felt like a kids show to me. The story in the games are a lot deeper and they have much better characters. I thought it would have been so much better if they based the story of one one of the games or made it feel more like Final Fantasy. The action scenes are pretty boring and the plot is really simple compared to the games. But one thing good to say is that it was better than the other final fantasy anime and the Spirits Within. the show wasnt horrible but they could have done so much better.

| quite bad indeed. In general the animation was quite nice, except for the 3d animation in some parts such as explosions. They looked very bad indeed, and gave the show a real tacky look. The outro in the first half was awsome, i listened to that song over and over again, but then they changed it to some crap song that just doesnt suit it.
The story is very bad. Towards episode 18 i really wanted it to end, but they managed to pull out episodes up to 25, but even still the story had a terrible ending that was very unsatisfying. Each episode is very loosley related to the overall story of the two kids trying to find their parents, but really, i forgot it had a story half the time anyway.
It has a few allright characters, only because they remind you of a few characters from the games a bit. It was good to see they had another Cid, and Kaze was pretty much a copy of Vincent from ff7, and they had many of the summons from the games. But otherwise they were pretty poorly designed characters. I especially hated Lisa, both her character and her design.
After being a big fan of all the games, i was very dissapionted in that one :(

| ugh. disappointing is what comes to mind when i think of this series.
animation was alright, i didn't like the way ai and yu were animated, though. music is not bad, but it's repeated over and over until you can't stand it anymore.
story? what story? the "story" basically consists of "monster of the week" episodes with kaze saving everyone's ass every time. the last 2 episodes were pretty decent, since they actually started to fill in the story then. the pacing was horrible, though. if they had spread out the plot and content over 25 episodes instead of just the last 2, it might've been a lot better. things were filled in hurriedly. no subtlety or anything. it was also really annoying how they showed the same freaking flashback (for kaze) over and over with like a split second of new stuff each time.
hmm as for characters: yu's a fruitcake, ai's a whiny bitch, ru's annoying, kaze's too silent and expressionless, lisa's kinda ditzy, and everyone in general is pretty underdeveloped. you don't find anything out bout lisa till the very last episode, and even then she only says like 2 sentences about herself.
BUT, the redeeming factor of this anime is that some of the summons are pretty damn cool.
overall, a big letdown from squaresoft (i expected so much better). if you just wanna watch for the summon monsters, then go ahead and knock yourself out. just don't expect anything meaningful or deep.

| Along with .hack//sign, this is one of the few anime series I never finished watching.
Being an avid fan of all the Final Fantasy games and especially the soundtracks, I was extremely disappointed by FF:U.

| FFU was good, and i'll go as far as to say that I thought it was a really good fantasy anime... which might be hard to believe given the synopsis' of other members here.
FFU has a lot of characters, great animation, outside of some intrusive CG on the part of Gonzo. The pastel feel to the characters and environment was a nice change of pace. The story is fun and fast paced, but due to either budget cuts or lack of viewer interest, ended half way through it's original count of 51/52 episodes. Yes, it ends incomplete more or less but they did find a good place to end. I'm not that familiar with the final fantasy games. Yeah, I've played a few, but it's never been something I've gotten into really; perhaps that's part of the reason I was able to enjoy watching this. As I wasnt expecting something from one of the FF games.
FFU is very under rated for what it is, a fun adventure series in a fantasy world. If anime like Rave, Outlaw Star, etc turn you on try this out.

| eh, this anime doesn't onvoke strong feelings for me in either way. The biggest mistake would be to compare it to the games when watching it. Like anything final fantasy that isn't a game its just allright. Its good for what it is, which is essentially a kids show.
I like the way its animated. I like the soft kinda childish way its drawn. Its refreshing and original. However the the overly detailed yet bad CGI stands out in sharp contrast and looks horrible. It doesn't fit in with the 2D art at all.
The musics good and I'm a sucker for the ending theme. over all this shows mediocre, Its not something I'd go out of my way to watch, but at the same time not something I would burn in effigy over a pool of acid. It doesn't hurt to watch and its definently enjoyable enough.

| Final Fantasy is a well known name. This anime doesn't exactly live up to your expectations, but then again, you can't really relate a game to a show. I admit that there are a few odd episodes in the series, but the ending more than makes up for it. I believe that the ending is worthy of the "final fantasy" name.
