| This 90 minute movie is basically a re-iteration of all the stuff in the series. As a result, the story is rushed, character development isn't as touching, and on the whole, it is not a satisfying alternative to the series. However, to someone who watched the series already, all of this doesn't matter. Instead, the most disappointing aspect of this movie is the animation - it doesn't improve at all. It makes me wonder, what exactly was the point of this movie if not to make it visually more pleasing?
Although there is some new footage, it isn't really that important to the storyline. I suppose, to the hardcore fan, this is worth watching just for Futune's Spoor captain's comment about Lafiel's hair and clothing that was left out in the series. But overall, there's no reason to watch this. If you want to follow below reviewer's suggestion and pass the series up to 'play catch up', I suggest you don't bother with Crest of the Stars trilogy at all. Crest of the Stars is better than Banner of the Stars and watching this movie to replace CotS is not a good idea.

| Second among my many reviews, where I do not need anything else than Overall section. It is so because this little movie is a compilation of great space opera, or rather its beginning, on which I happen to already have a review. Thus, I feel no need to repeat myself.
"Crest/Banner" series currently has three series around 10 episodes each, two OVA's and this 1,5-hour movie. And this movie happens to be mere compilation of first installment of the cycle, "Crest of the Stars" series.
That alone is sufficient to make me interested, for all other parts of the cycle were greatly interesting, well thought and done, they all made for amazing and enjoyable watch. So does this, but, on one condition I happen to fullfill. I am an ardent "Crest/Banner" fan, and prior to watching this, I have seen the series.
Those of You who do not fill those criteria will find it hard to enjoy this movie. First, its story is rushed, often You wonder what exactly happen, like in the scene when there is a chase, and suddenly those who run away are no longer in a larger group, there are only two persons now. Why? What happened? You will never know, unless You will see the series, where the scene is longer. And that is not the only example, that is numerous, although always the questions that spring to mind upon seeing the scene are of lesser importance than in the example I used.
Animation and sound are on the very same level than in the series (a detriment, I hoped for some improvement). Characters are exact same, and story is worse, since rushed. There is additional footage, yet I found it amount smaller than expected, and of worse quality than I wanted. Alas, I lowered almost all of my ratings, and still, I do it whilst being a fan, so for those of You, who happen to come across this title as a first from whole cycle, I say - wait for Crest series, to be blown away, and treat this one as I did. Remainder on what happens in the series, when You will be needing one.
On a final note, if You found this review lacking, I point You to my review on "Crest of the Stars" series, when I provide more information.

| If you have seen Crest of the Stars, there is really no point in seeing this. Though there is few additions to it, and slghtly changed dialogue, seeing this after seeing CotS will make you think that this is a rushed version of the anime. This is really for those who want to skip CotS and play catch up.
