A pretty good anime. The story is easy to follow, doesnt need alot of thinking. The about human fighting a virus, but the main focus is about the relationship of the main characters. The music was average, i didnt find it too interesting or anything special. The characters wasnt well developed, but since its only a 4 ep anime, i dont expect too much. I really enjoyed the anime because of the emotional story, especially the relationships between the main characters. I would recommend to people who is looking for a decent short series.

Wish you weren't here... enough with the bad jokes.

The problem with IWYWH is that is fails somewhat in every aspect. Starting with story: whoa! We got this crazy killer virus from space that makes people monsters! Let's put this silly looking special team with nanoarmors against them! Yeah, their success rate is close to null and everybody dies after few missions but that doesn't stop people from recruiting. One more thing: the whole thing is secret. We can just cover these hundreds of death with bs about gas explosions. That's how things start and they don't get much better later on. The story throws a lot of cliches against the viewer and the plot never takes on. Rather I had very small idea where on earth the series was heading as the twists seem random and sudden.

I saw something like this close to ten years ago when I watched Guyver and I wasn't impressed then either. The characters of IWYWH aren't much better either. The only memorable people are Ai and Yuuji. Unfortunately their relationship goes something like this: never seen -> blink of an eye -> I'll betray everything for this girl I love more than anything. My jaw dropped down few inches when Yuuji made his choice. Love isn't logical but that decision was just plain old WTF. Rest of the characters are pretty forgettable: some army buddies, a mad scientist, a mother figure and some rival troops that will anyway see greatness of our hero in the end.

2D animation looks just fine but CG is outdated. Ai's astral from is meant to look cool but it didn't impress me. Time and progress, the enemies of series with looks and no content. Music is rather nasty rockish stuff that gritted my nerves in every scene.

The positive side of the series is the somewhat interesting science part where they somehow try to explain everything. But when this combined with bash the monster with bioarmor stuff and uninteresting characters, it amounts to nothing. Watch with stimulants at hand.

A rather solid viewing. After reading some low scoring reviews, I was rather judgementive on whether or not I should watch this. Well, in the end, I ended up downloading it for one simple reason; the picture on animenfo looked so cool. That's why I hate animes with cool pictures; I'll always be drawn into watching it. But after what I've went through, I would say that Zaion is all right for what it has delivered in just 4 episodes.

A meteorite crash landed onto earth, plaguing the human race with a virus known as M34 that turns those infected with it into rock zombies with the intent to kill. The government established NOA; a group of super soldiers injected with nanomachines in order to battle these zombies, and prevent the virus from spreading any further. The story mainly revolves around Tamiya Yuuji, an NOA member, and Ai; a girl with supernatural abilities that can easily destroy the infected patients with ease.

The only thing that really bothered me about I wish you were here is the relationship between Ai and Tamiya Yuuji. It wouldn't be appropriate to label it love at first sight, but with one simple conversation that doesn't even last longer than 5 minutes, they instantly become the most important people to each other. Ai can only utilize her power when she wants to, and Ai is an angsty I-give-up-on-life type of character you would see on Neon Genesis Evangelion. The only time she'll use her powers is when Tamiya, a guy she met for only 5 minutes before, is in danger. There is some story to why this mysterious man is so important to this girl, but it was still pretty poorly done.

Though other than that, everything else is all right. The fight scenes are surprisingly not as good as I expected, coming from GONZO and all, and it's an OVA. But looking at what year it was animated in, it's pretty understandable. The animation, while looking rather outdated, is also pretty nice. Though what's dragging it down are the CGI graphics. The CGI doesn't fit in at all with the rest of the animation. The story makes some twists in the final two episodes, which are pretty cool. But then it falters in the final episode, leaving a "WTF just happened?" kind of conclusion.

All in all, I wish you were here is not a bad watch. Nothing really excelling, but other than the love romance going on, it's not entirely lacking either. If you want something to kill time, this certainly does a good job of consuming time without wasting it.

I don’t like sci-fi anime – that’s a fact, because they really don’t have much good idea in them.

Zaion felt like a more grown up version of the power rangers, with a bit of science thrown into it. There wasn’t much that I haven’t seen before.

The subject of virus though is rare in anime and it’s something that really does interest me. The idea of infection was something that sparked curiosity ever since I was little, with films like Fly, Alien and Outbreak. But what they had here didn’t.

The main reason being that this was far too one-sided, concentrating too much on the armed forces and research members. They should really have focused more on the civilians instead.

A good idea, but otherwise, very bland anime. Girls possessing special powers, transforming soldiers and bad guys merging together to become bigger are just so old that when you don’t have anything new or dramatic to add to it, it really fail to deliver at all.

A very underrated anime. It's rare to find an OVA this good, as I was very impressed with how tense and emotional it was. It should have deserved an average score of at least 8.

Animation:
The animation is great for a OVA. It's definately better than the animations on most other anime series.

Sound:
The music is superb. It really adds to the emotional scenes.

Story:
A unique love story set in a futuristic sci-fi setting. The main story about the virus takes a backseat to the love story between Yuji and Ai. It was a touching story that had a great blend of emotional moments and tense action sequences.

Characters:
The main focus of the anime is the relationship between Yuji and Ai, which was told very well, as the plot was able to establish a strong emotional attachment to the characters. I was very intrigued about what were happening to the main characters, and could feel a lot of sympathy for them, especially Ai. The only problem is that the secondary characters weren't given much development, mostly because it was a short OVA and also because it wasn't actually necessary for the plot.

Value:
A very memorable anime that I wouldn't mind watching again.

Enjoyment:
I really enjoyed this OVA a lot because of the emotional story, unique characters, tense action scenes and superb music.

Ok, lets be honest. Its low budget so the animation and the CG won't be very good. So lets not hold that agaisnt it too much. And its only four episodes character development and plot will be rushed. Considering all things a very well done animemation. Its worth viewing once or twice.

I had read some bad reviews on this OAV in a few different places. I watched it subbed and was pleasantly surprised. The story itself I thought was pretty interesting and it had the feel of the last episodes of a complete series. The characters were a bit typical. The CG felt out of place, however, it wasn't a complete backfire. Overall it's worth the watch.

I Wish you were Here is an odd mixture of good and bad things... so it's difficult to rate.

First of all, although, this OVA has many faults I enjoyed watching it. I don't think it's a very good anime, but it's still enjoyable, I guess.

Starting with the animation, I rather liked most of it. The character designs were good, as were the backgrounds. The only thing that didn't look very well, were the robots (not the nano-machines, the other robots) and the helicopter. I believe those were the "CGs". Well, they sucked. They spoil what would be, otherwise a very decent animated...erm... anime.

The sound. The music was not very good. It was bearable, but honestly, could have been so much better. The voices were ok... no annoying voices.

As for the story, well it's the most weak point of I wish you were here. I mean, the general idea was not so bad. Really, it was good actually, and could have been a great plot if it was better developed and explored. As it was, the story was not very well developed. I kept thinking that all that flashed before my eyes were bunches of scenes, only barely related with each other. Also there are so many things that are left unexplained. For example why, does Yuuji suddently decides to kidnapt Ai (or whatever it was he did...)? Some things left me really confused. Also, the pace of the story changed frequently. However, not all is bad. I believe that the romance part was done worderfully. I mean, it's difficult to see how it happens, but the attitudes of the characters are very good.

Now, about the characters. You do have many characters. They offer no backgrounds, no explanation for certain behaviors. Sometimes the characters are important to the story and you don't even know who they are! Nop, the characters were defenitely bad developed.

Well, "I Wish you were Here" had much of what it needed to become a decent anime. But, for that, they needed to make it longer. And work on the characters and in developing the plot. Really, now! Wasting a plot with that much potential!

i wish you were here is a largely mirthless anime that takes itself far too seriously. In three times its length, this would have been awesome, but as it stands this just feels like the final four episodes of a series, slightly appended to make a plausible OVA set. It starts slowly, picks up speed towards the middle, then slows down again and crashes to a rather severe extent from which it never really recovers. I'll admit right now that I downloaded this series for two rather unconventional reasons: I liked the vaguely mysterious title and the picture on animenfo intrigued me. I'll know not to make any downloads on those criteria anymore...

The worst part about this anime is that if it weren't for the description on Animenfo I wouldn't know what the hell was going on 90% of the time. The plot exposition is unbelievably poor, and the series just thrusts you right into the action without so much as a word of explanation. The rest of the series is scarcely better, with basically every plot event being a fight against the viral outbreak or Yuuji and Ai having bonding time. Seriously, almost nothing goes on in this anime, and it really is distressing. To add insult to injury, the ending is not only confusing but also awful, and the anime leads into it very poorly. I was left with an incredible amount of unanswered questions by the time i wish you were here was over, all of which are spoilery and that I probably shouldn't divulge. However, it is not arguable that the story is absolutely full of holes. Poor and unoriginal in both presentation and content, this feels like a low-budget cross between Resident Evil, Blue Gender and liberal amounts of narcotics.

The characters of i wish you were here are certainly stronger than its plot, though not exactly incredible by any means. Yuuji is a perfectly dismissible Valiant Hero, and Ai a highly archetypal Wispy Pretty Girl with Latent Asskicking Powers. The only supporting character whose name I remember, Misao, is decently developed but nerve-gratingly weepy and overemotional. The rest of the supporting characters are placed in front of the viewer, a potentially likeable and fun cast, and then are thrown completely off the face of the earth. What bothers me the most about the cast is that none of the characters have any sort of backstory at all. Why does Ai have her powers? How was she discovered? Why is Yuuji fighting in the army? Why can they use the nanomachines; is it some sort of inborn power or army-granted ability? The characters just end up adding even more questions to the already addled anime, which does little to clear things up in the end.

I have been watching a lot of short OVA series lately simply because they are compact and often interesting experiences, but I've come to realize that a lot of them are plagued with very similar problems. They are almost all too intent on delivering flash-in-the-pan action and thrills without any regard for building plot or character. i wish you were here is a grave and exemplary example of this, and it suffers horribly for it. The plot ends up so muddy and incoherent by the end, and not in a good 'I want to think about this' way like Serial Experiments Lain or Paranoia Agent. It was a decently serviceable action OVA, but it just ended up confusing me more than it really should have.

Oh, and also, you never get to see Ai on fire. That disappointed me greatly.

This OVA was fun to watch, better than what I expected after looking at the negative reviews. The story here pretty basic, a girl with special powers need to save the world from mutant zombies. Not original, but not annoying to watch neither.

The animation here is slightly above average. It is smooth and contains decent character designs. The CG and mechs however, seem kind of poor. The voice acting is quite alright, while music is nothing impressive. Character are distinct and easy to identify with, although not very likable.

As for value and enjoyment, it is good. I really liked it the first time through, since the futuristic idea was absorbing. Those who enjoyed lite drama/romance series such as Saikano and Gunparade will probably want to see this one.

Overall, i enjoyed this anime. I like the futuristic part of it, with mutating viruses and nano-machines inside your body. I also like how it showed "regular" citizens of earth had no idea that such a virus was going on, everyone was in disbelief that 3% of humanity has fallen to the virus.

It looked as if Blue Gender and Bubblegum Crisis got drunk, had sex, and produced a low budget anime.
IWYWH is definately not one of Gonzo's greatest works. While the standard animation is average, the CG is some of the worst I have ever seen.

Visuals aside, the story that spans the four episode OVA is undercooked, inconsistent, and unoriginal. At times it teeters on the edge of complete boredom despite whatever sequence is playing out. I had a hard time watching the remainder of the show after the first thirty minutes. I found it to be that bad. If you are wondering the story telling improves at all, do not get your hopes up. I merely decided to surrender two hours of my life to enduring this piece of crap. Please do not repeat my mistake.

One stand out is the progressive music used. While it doesn't necessarily fit in with the show, the musical score was enjoyable. Reminds me of some of Motoi Sakuraba's work.

All in all, this is probably the worst anime Studio Gonzo has ever had a hand in. At least out of the shows I have watched.

Love saves the world in this sorta action-packed OVA from gonzo. The idea of love saving humanity is usualy an easy base to build a story on and has been done very well in the past by several other series, but it really fails in this for two reasons; 1 cosmetic, and 1 substance. The animation in the series is really pretty good. The CG however, really sucks. It's very low-budget and gonzo uses it in so many horrid places that it's hard to really pay attention what's going on in the series at all. You're eyes are that sore. Second, the characters. With an story about love saving all, if you have no idea who the characters are how can they be saved? Im being 100% serious when I say that supporting characters die off before you even find out their names. Not good at all.

This looked like it had some things going for it but in the end it fails. Boring, characters you dont know the names of, terrible cg, the whole nine yards.

For a four-episode OVA, this anime has a lot going for it. At first, it's the classic sci-fi/action story about mankind fending against monsters. But this anime goes way beyond that. Instead of just superpumped heroes, the clue to mankinds salvation lies in hope, love and the will to live, and IWYWH shows this throughout the series, without making it seem boring. in fact, my eyes were glued to the screen for the full two hours that this anime lasted.
While the story and characters may be good, the animation itself was kind of average. Sure, even if it is Gonzo, you can't expect a level of CGI as in Last Exile, but the CGI here was barely above Final Fantasy Unlimited, so it's not really something to be happy about. On the other hand, the mecha, character and enemy designs were great and the action scenes were well choreagraphed, so the mediocre CGI can be overlooked. It was not really that the 3D CGI was the problem, but the fact that it was used blending it with "normal" 2D animation.
Unfortunately, I found the sound forgettable. I liked the end song, but it was the only part of sounds I'd like to hear more often. The rest just blended with the series and maintained a fast paced atmosphere. As for the voice acting, it wasn't memorable either. Not bad, but also nothing that stood out.

But on the whole, IWYWH has little problems for an OVA of this length. Although the story has been done to death, IWYWH still manages to give it enough depth to keep you watching. If you can get a chance to watch this anime, don't hesitate to do so.

Just recently bought the OVA released by ADV films.... over all I got to say I enjoyed this anime, even tho the character development is quite quick it has a nice storyline to it. I think for the 4 episodes it consists of, they did a goodjob. One thing I did not like at all was the terrible CG. But the animation is very good. If this would of been a full series ( 12 - 26 ep. ) it would of been alot more touching. But if you want to watch something short and not be dissapionted in the end this is a good OVA to get. I would semi-recommend this.

This is the kind of anime which require you to just sit back, relax and enjoy the show with no thinking involved. True there are a lot of things that should have been explained but this mini-series is just too short for that. The story is very simple, mainly focusing on the relationship between the two main characters, with some action here and there. Nice little series.

this series is crap. i don't understand it's purpose. i expected way more than this from gonzo. it was obviously an experimental anime that went horribly wrong. it's like the creators forgot what they were doing after the first episode, so they threw something together at the last minute. throughout the 4 episodes various staff interviews are shown, where they keep saying, "we hope you like this, we are trying really hard to make it good". i could see in their eyes that they were actually apologizing for what they knew was turing into one of the worst OVA's ever made.

the story is dumb and boring. a group of people wearing stupid looking hardsuits are fighting human beings who have turned into monsters because of some virus.

the characters are all boring. i like yuji and ai's designs but they are so DULL! they fall madly in love with eachother after they talked for 3 minutes one night. there is NO reason for these two people to be in love!

the animation is horrible. the close up shots look fine but the rest of the animation is complete shit. the CGI is some of the worst i have ever seen. the music is SO bad. i hated all the BGM. the end theme is ok which is why i gave sound a 3, otherwise it would have got a 1.

don't watch this series! i'm warning you that this is really painful to watch, even if you love gonzo.
