| Super Dimension Century Orguss 2 is a 6 episode mecha OVA released in 1993. It is set in the distant future of the original 1983 anime Super Dimension Century Orguss.
Released in 1993, Orguss 2 features highly detailed scenes and excellent animation. Although some scenes could have use smoother animation, most of the key moments are animated to a good degree. The character designs are also excellent for its time. Orguss 2, with its high level of detail, was very impressive to watch when it was released.
As the European distribution of Orguss 2 only featured the English dubbed track, I am unable to comment on the original Japanese voice acting. And sadly, the English voice acting is far from agreeable. Most of the dialogue sound bland and unemotional, including the parts spoken in an imaginary foreign tongue. However, the audio in Orguss 2 fares much worse than just the voice acting. The background music in the OVA not only fails to suit the scenes, but also sound absolutely awful. The theme songs do not help either, especially when used in the most incorrect way during the anime. Orguss 2 is a disaster in terms of audio. The Japanese voice acting might prove to be better than the English dubbing, but it will do nothing to improve the awful music and songs.
Although it starts off on the slow side and finishes a bit on the fast side, the storyline in Orguss 2 is interesting. The actions of the characters in the OVA are mostly rational, and almost all questions are answered and explained. Rated 15, Orguss 2 does not cut back on the contents it displays, making the storyline surprisingly believable. The OVA concludes nicely, making Orguss 2 a decent watch when considering storylines.
The characters in Orguss 2 are let down by the abysmal English voice acting. The characters themselves are interesting and have well defined personalities, and their actions and reactions are realistic and believable. Although character development is almost non-existant, it is not a major factor for a 6 episode OVA.
Orguss 2 has a good storyline and impressive albeit dated animation, but fails miserably in terms of sound. With characters that are heavily tainted by the poor English voice acting, Orguss 2 is an OVA which would appeal most to Super Dimension Century Orguss fans. To other viewers, Orguss 2 might be worthwhile for its storyline.

| From the first episode I had doubts about the title. I thought it would turn mediocre and would not catch the quality of the series. But then I realized that Orguss 2 was completely different and had a more mature approach. Incidentally anime like Saber Marionette used also a darker theme in the OVA and similar settings. Because now the settings are similar to WWI and the OVA has not much to do with the original series and only in the last 2 episodes a connection appears, even if not much is explained about how the series really ended.
What I really liked in the OVA was the animation and SFX that were of high quality for the time they were made. CGI wasnt in such an advanced stage as today so the hand-drawn models were striking.
The story was also detailed with two rival empires fighting for conquest with the help of mecha robots from the future.
Instead of all the characters speaking the same language here actually an artificial language is used for the citizens of the other empire, ensuring some original and funny moments regarding character interactions. Also the cruel side of war is depicted without hesitating and also some other gruesome moments regarding murders in the royal families.
Characters (I watched the English dub) werent anything special and are just a copy of other dozen similar characters.
The story uses many elements and is well scripted and the last episode is satisfying, even if a bit rushed but not as rushed as the ending of the series.
Good animation, good story, good sound, not so good characters, some pace problems.
Overall a well executed OVA for the first watch, but I'd prefer to rewatch the retro series instead.

| The visuals were, to be frank, aweful. The quality of animation was poor - really, really poor. The artwork and detail weren't very good, and the style was pretty bland. To think this was made in the 90s is astonishing. It has a very dated feel - early 80s in my opinion. The only positives in terms of visuals were the action scenes, which were fast and furious.
The sound was as abismal as the visuals. The quality is so bad that once again, it makes you think the anime was made in the early 80s. The voice acting is alright but typical, the music is 80s and horrible, along with the sound effects, which seem sub par.
The story was good but just not quite executed as good as it should have been. It dawdled on boring parts too much of the time, and only got to the good stuff towards the very end. Having said that, it was intriguing enough to keep me sat where I was throughout.
The characters weren't bad. They all did their job fine by playing out their roles in a predictable way, but they lacked a bit of oomph. I wasn't too fond of the vilian.
The replay value is pretty low due to bad execution of the plot and its general appeal. Overall a subpar anime but one that isn't terrible. Reminded me a TAD little bit of Laputa towards the end (but no way as good).

| Ok first of all, as the previous review states the information on this series is entered incorrectly and I've sent feedback.
I remember seeing the first 4 episodes of this series dubbed on a VHS copy long time ago. Back then it failed to impress me. Mostly due to the pisspoor dub Mangle had blessed the show with. Later I aquired this series on DVD and decided to give it a chance since it had gotten such good reviews in many anime related publications. Damn glad I did!
I cannot really put to words at what kind of awe I was at watching this show. It was so well done and had a rich and colorful world filled with history, culture and languages, something in which anime usually fails.

| the infos in this database seem to be incorrect, as Orguss 02 'only' lasts 6 episodes. nevertheless, this is a hell of a great show. furious mecha-action, depressing war setting, real good characterwork and a compelling storyline is what you get here. this awesome peace of work is one of my alltime favourites and is more than worth watching. get it if you can, you won't be dissapointed.

| I really enjoyed this one. Even though I watched it dubbed, the voices weren't particularly painful to the ear. The story could have used a little more fleshing out, but maybe because I haven't watched the original Orguss. I liked the characters and I loved the ending because it wasn't the normal mushy-wushy stuff you tend to get but it was still feel-good. I wish the mecha could have looked cooler and played a little more of a role, but then they would have ended up overshadowing the people and you can't have that. Overall I would recommend this one to anyone who's looking for a short, low-commitment but good series to watch.
