| I've just finished watching Blue Seed for the 6th time (yes six times ^_^) and I still enjoyed every moment and I don't think I will ever go off of this anime.
I think part of my enjoyment is made up of the "based on Japanese mythology" element, I'm a sucker for anything like that ^_^
I also think part of my love for this anime stems from it being one of my first ever boxsets of a Japanese anime that I ever owned.
It's a good series, filled with great characters, a very interesting storyline and some really fantastic music. It should be a must watch for every anime fan - my opinion only of course!!

| I saw Blue Seed as a younger gentlemen. I think I was only 12 or 13, but even then I understood it and instantly fell in love with is after watching only two tapes (or 6 episodes) of it. The story centers mainly around a young girl named Momiji Fujimiya who is your average every-day girl, clumsy, loud, a bit obnoxious, but she has a destiny that no man could fathom. She is a kushinada, a princess baring the power to save mankind in her sacrifice. Over-all, it's an amazing anime. Also, check out Blue Seed Beyond (Blue Seed 2 in Japan).

| This is a fine example of an average anime. No offense, but this is a good anime for people that are beginning to be anime fan. This anime mix decently many categories (action, monsters, romance, team relationship and suspense) and many other ideas already being introduce by others anime shows however, sometimes the plot switch back and forward from kids-like plot to adult-like plot. The Spanish dub version is good but the English one is better as it put the dialog more mature. The characters are likable and the story is ok.
The opening song and ending song for this anime is remarkably a perfect combo.

| Protect The World From Itself.
Blue Seed (1997)
Plot:
A new danger appears in Tokyo, this time it's the lifeform in the form of the Aragami. Plant based monsters that can kick some ass. An organization, TAC, is born with the intentions of killing this threat. Enter Momiji, a normal teenage girl that is deemed 'the human sacrifice', she's recruited into TAC and the story begins unfolding.
What I Thought:
It's amazing how fast I turned into anime. In the blink of an eye, I'm an anime geek, watching it back and forth, all the time. "Blue Seed" is an anime series that takes me back to before I even began watching anime. I remember catching episodes once in a while, now that I got the DVDs with the 26 episodes, I couldn't stop. Let's see how it went.
"Blue Seed" is definitely a worthy member of the middle 90's anime streak ("Evangelion" being there as well. It spawned a second series called simply "Blue Seed 2" and there were plans of a full lenght movie. The truth is that the series isn't as good as I remembered at first glance. The story seems to be extremely thin during the first DVD but later on, when there's a mayor plot twist, "Blue Seed" shows us exactly how amazing it is. The story twists, turns and bends every episode in the final arc of the series and every second of it had me drooling. It isn't as complex as my love, "Evangelion" but it's certainly a more complicated universe than most stuff I've seen lately. The ending was somewhat a dissapointment because of how amazing the past five episodes had gone, I was expecting something more like what I had seen. The ending works fine on the universe but it could've been more climatic (the children chants were amazing though).
The characters are fantastic, like most anime. But like the plot, they take a lot to develop. The first two DVDs have little character development, with it relying mostly on predone anime clichéd personalities (cooler than cool Kusanagi for one). But when it gets good, everything does. The characters begin getting wrapped with layers and in the end, they are all well developed and complex people. Every dramatic scene during the final blocks of the story is extremely effective (the scene where everyone is getting ready for 'the end' had me teary eyed) because it carries weight with it. I'm glad I could connect to everyone at least at some point.
The epic storiline near the end opens doors for fantastic action sequences and fights. I'll be damned if I wasn't pumped for that 'mirror' battle with Kusanagi. The director had a lot of talent but not too much to work with, sadly. The animation -as most low budget 90's series- is very limited. The backgrounds are generally stylishly unanimated paintings, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. But the series is plagued with clever camerawork, great action and well cued drama. The soundtrack was surprisingly forgettable. Though 'that music' during the final episodes of the series is absolutely beautiful. Mostly, the rest is generic.
The acting (pretaining the Japanese version only) is absolutely fucking amazingly omygawd fantastic. Like "Evangelion", the scenes of fights and such made you think that the actors were actually feeling the characters' pain. Every emotion is transmitted like it should and it kept me hooked the entire way through. The charismatic actors voicing the great characters always felt so damned right!
Gore:
Not as much as you'd think. Someone gets his/her arm lopped off, some dude explodes (or something) some dogs munching on a guy, people turning into plants, cuts and some more.
Overly, "Blue Seed" is gold that takes time to build. Overlook the first 10 episodes because after that, the quality is amped in monumental proportions. It's like the creator sat down and said, "Now it's going to get good."

| It was fine and had some good moments. However, there is nothing that seems too great here. Although it had a good concept of the mythology, the fights felt like an ongoing version of "kill the bad guy with the seed and the heroes win" type of scheme. The story had a lot of weak areas. Very little does it changes as it progress, and so do the characters. Kusanagi was probably the memorable and amusing character that I could think of that added to my minor interest on it. The music was just too average, and the animation was the only good thing during its time. The Omake itself was probably the only thing that gave me a good laugh, which was good at making fun of the character’s traits. I guess I wasn’t into it, even with some of the humor that tries to remain throughout the series. I almost can't see anything good out of it, and probably wouldn't even think of watching it again.

| Well, what can I say, this was one of the first post-ranma animes I watched making that about 8 years ago or so. Since then I've been able to watch a lot more anime and come to realize how prevalent the cliches have become and how much they've become overhashed. But I'm rating this anime based on how I enjoyed it when I was first watching anime so maybe this review will appeal to those in a similar position.
First off, yes the first 1/3 of the anime consists of a "monster-of-the-week" episode used as just filler and to a small extent, character development. Didn't bother me at the time, maybe it'd bother me now :). I really liked kusanagi as I've to this day base my username on for every account I make. It was pretty emotional for me towards the end of the series and considering I had to wait episode to episode, the effect of each episode ending was that much stronger.
Hrm....not sure if this is a good review actually. I would say I liked Kusanagi so Character I give an above average mark. Story was above average as well. The Omakes were priceless. The rest I would say is average. Overall an above average anime and would recommend for new anime watchers.

| Every once in a while, a gem of an anime may be found among the insufferable formulaic glitz of so many other shows. ....and Blue Seed is no gem. It's trite. It's cliche. It probably doesn't mesh its genres well. And it hasn't aged well at all. But yet, there's something about this show that could make me watch it even after almost ten years. Recommended.

| Blue Seed hasn't aged well. I really enjoyed it when I first watched part of it back when it first came out, but after having watched it again recently, all I can say is I've seen it before a million times in other anime over the years. Once upon a time it might have been original, but the direction the story went in really didn't interest me, despite the otherwise interesting characters. The animation is dated, while the music fares a bit better. Overall it's a decent anime that's simply showing its age.

| Blue Seed is an action/sci-fi title with a touch of Japanese mythology and folkore. I've been a fan of this series ever since my first viewing of it on Encore's Action Channel a few years ago. I've since bought the DVD boxset, so I can enjoy the show whenever the mood strikes me.
Blue Seed sparked some interest in Japanese mythology in me, as it uses the legend of Susana-oh and Orochi in an interesting manner. The intitially slow-moving underlying storyline gains spead and scale in the second half of the series and engages the viewer's emotions in the last few episodes. I've likened it to Neon Genesis Evangelion, not only because of the inclusion of many of the same dub VAs, but because of story similarities.
Both Blue Seed and Evangelion feature a government organization dedicated to ridding the world of a group of attacking monsters. Both have somewhat a "monster of the week" feel. Both employ both scientific knowledge and mythological symbolism (though in Evangelion the symbolism is mostly dressing). There are secrets, lies, and conspiracies in both series.
It is not without it's flaws, of course. Like I mentioned, there's a "monster of the week" theme to it that can be irritating. What sort of Aragami will show up next? Will it look like an insect? Is it a bird? Will it form into a giant worm thing? Save us, Godzilla! But most of the forms of the Aragami make some kind of sense, at least. It's explained. That's very reassuring.
The art and animation aren't very good. The sound is decent at best, though some of the music's quite nice.
The characters are fairly developed, though I can't help feeling that if the show were longer they could have fleshed some of them out more.
I'd reccomend this series to anybody with some spare time on their hands and a liking of a good sci-fi/action/mythology story. Heh.
Oh, also... Kusanagi rules.

| Quite the enjoyable anime.
I first watched this back in greece when I didn't even know what anime or manga were.
Watching this again (and watching it whole this time), I see that it is still as enjoyable as I thought back then, which is definitely a good thing.
The story is interesting (maybe a little unoriginal though) and unfolds at a comfortable place and the characters are likeable.

| Blue Seed is a very entertaining anime.
I really like the fact, that Blue Seed's story was based on japanese mythology. The plot is ok enough (not a very good plot, but nice), combining action, romance and LOADS of drama. Of course you have the underlying theme, that old 'Save the trees and the Planet', which, of course is always good, but it seems the purpose is to add depth to a simple action plot, where the good guys fight the bad guys.
The characters are, the majority of them, pretty normal, they don't stand out much. The ones that do, annoy the crap out of me: Momiji's voice makes me greet my teeth and grab my hair as does her goody-goody, 'too good to be true' behavior. I also have a serious problem (mainly I dislike him) with Kusanagi... I mean who does he thinks he is, a secret agent? what's with the secrecy? :p
The sappy romance/drama story, almost makes me sick, which is weird, because I usually like romance. Ah, yes. It was sappy, and the two characters involved annoyed me VERY much.
The music is pretty good, in my opinion and I love the opening.
If you can get past that... great story. Yeah, strangely enough I actually liked Blue Seed. So, call me crazy...:p

| From my point of view, Blue Seed is not an interesting anime. There's no particular atmosphere. And the characters are all so boring! (except god-damn-Sakura!). I've watched the 26 episodes, and I felt like it would never end.
I know this series is more than 10 years old, but other animes are older and so much more entertaining!
Blue Seed is definetely not the kind of stuff that would have inticed me into discovering other animes.

| An average anime with a typical 'monster attacking and destroying the world' theme. The short romance in the story was quite enjoyable, and the action scenes were pretty awesome. The characters, however, was not as thoroughly developed as it should be, which degraded the quality of the anime.
The music and voices are awesome though. Having Megumi Hayashibara as Momiji's voice was the best choice. Check out the songs 'Touch and Go' and 'Matsuri Uta'.

| What can I say about Blue Seed? Hmm...it's hard to remember, when the story is so bland I don't remember it. And the characters are so bland I never even bothered to learn all their names, even after 15 episodes! That's not a good sign.
Blue Seed has characters and plot so forgettable and unmemorable that it's hard to believe that it once had a fairly large fan base.

| Highly underrated series that is very entertaining and a little deeper than it seems to be at first. The animation is only decent, but the characters and many of the storylines really make this work. It does fall into Monster-of-the-Week on occasion, but the ending is well worth the wait.

| Blue Seed isn't what i would call a great show, but it's quite good.
The anime is rather old (1994) so art and animation are rather outdated, as is the sound.
You could hope that the story would make up for it, it does a bit, but it only gets interesting rather far in the serie, making the first episodes boring.
Characters aren't very special, you'll be happy to find your typical shy girl, tomboy and scaredycat guy... and of course, the bad mannered tough guy, protector of momiji who'll end up falling in love with her (of course...)
Well i would only recommend watching this if you aren't bored to see always the same cliche and plot turns.

| I've always found Blue Seed to be perfectly blah. There really isn't anything about this series to get excited about.
A full 26 episode series was far too much for a plot as wafer-thin as this one, but that was the norm when Blue Seed was made, and it hurts.
The problem is intrinsic to Blue Seed's very idea.... There really isn't much room to develop a plot based on what we are given in the first few episodes. Even worse, the characters involved seem fairly limited by the series humble ambitions.
The attempts at humour come across as forced (except in the omake sections, which were animated purely for the video release, I believe) mostly because the drama sections are similarly forced.... In the end, you can't laugh at the jokes because you can't feel enough for these characters and the situations they find themselves in.
Blue Seed is disappearing off the radar today, and it is probably just as well.

| A nice series, but don't expect anything you haven't seen in some other anime series. The nature theme of the series gives it somewhat fresh flavor, though. The omake clips are funny....
