| A smaller addition to the Mamotte Shugogetten series. A little better, but still sometimes gives that same silliness whenever it wasn’t really needed. The first episode, or at the second mostly because it was just some out-take, doesn’t give you any briefing on all of the character’s origins, so you really have to watch the TV episodes in advance. But really, they should’ve given at least some warning. After episode four and over, the whole series becomes a mellow dramatic mumbo-jumbo between Tasuke and Shaorin from their continuing outings such as the time on the mountain and the Christmas date, which is just a lot of hesitation on Tasuke’s emotions, whether he wants to say it or not. But he doesn‘t do it, because he was just so gutless, and then becomes mushy in the middle of it. The biggest mistake that some people will be doing when watching most OVA’s is that they usually have to watch the TV episodes at first in order to understand everything that‘s going on; but that didn’t really matter, since it will mostly still be odd on the whole thing anyway. It does give each character a fair amount of attention from some moments, but does it in a lesser manner than the TV episodes. The dragon that got hurt from the later scenes, was the only one I’ve favored. Some of those characters weren’t as bad, such as the older sister that had some spunk from the time that was viewed within her role. She says this on one of the later episodes that Tasuke was spineless, and as of course she was right. He was just a spineless heel that only “acted“ tough whenever something bad happens to Shaorin, but just couldn’t express his own actions. Even though that he wanted to say those things when it comes to admitting his true feelings on Shaorin, something always unnecessary happens with an excuse, whether it was his fault or not. And of course, the older sister was helping him, as the whole thing from episode four and over were partly focused from Shaorin’s thoughts as being overemotional just to reason with herself, as to my next thought of why would anyone would just care for that over-lapping scene in the first place. Just one new character comes in later the series, which were at times humorous to those events. Watch this only if you are into the first series, or else of course, you would be entirely, as well as predictably, be over raging from the wasted time that was spent and finding the idea of blaming yourself. As for some who wouldn’t favor the partial comedy/little drama genre, I mostly won't recommend this. And for those who’ve watched it already, “chuka chuka chan chan chan".

Yeah, just in case you hadn't figured out, this is a decent anime for you weirdo Chobits fans and those that can't pull away from anything cute. Otherwise it's just a complete waste of time.

| Ive already reviewed the TV series check that out.
I thought I watched all the best animes already but then I picked up the tv series of this and liked it very much, but I incredibly loved the OVA. I cant believe I missed this anime for so long, why is such a good anime hiding from me. However I found it and dont know how it stays off the top 200 list.. no no top 100. First of all the romance is much stronger in the ova as well as character development. Alot of character devolopment(for Shao and Tasuke at least) comedy all still there. Each episode is 30 min so more stuff can happen during each episode which means more story line.

| While it is quite enjoyable to watch this series, in the end, nothing was developed and the story didn't move along at all.
I was really hoping the relationship between Shaorin and Tasuke would move along in this OVA, while some issues were touched on in the second half of the OVA, nothing was actually resolved at the end.
Rishu is still very cute as usual and the animation is cleaned up quite a bit from the TV series, but I don't think it is still up to a typical OVA level yet.
Songs are okay in the anime, but I've never enjoyed putting songs in the middle of the anime anyway.
It is fun to watch this Shugogetten OVA, but just don't expect it to develop any of your favorite characters.

| I think my review does not really reflect my feelings towards this OVA series. It was enjoyable, just that the sound and characters did not really contribute to help the overall score. I watched the TV series first and to be frank I had quite a bad time with it. The OVA appears to be much better. According to story and development, OVA is the sequel to the TV but I am not entirely sure about whether the OVA came out first or not but I suppose starting the OVA would be no problem.
The OVA has improved art for character designs(maybe it's just that I don't like the char designs in the TV series), characters are definitely less irritating and actually more lovable(praise the lord). Music was an improvement but I didn't really like the songs(esp those in between eps). The OVA is definitely more romantic and straightforward. Recommended(I suppose if you are not into cute or romance, you won't even come here to review so I stereotype this for all romance fans or those that have no problem with chibi and romance).

| I have not seen the normal eps. But this is the story of Ah my goddes with a twist. More cute in some ways. If you are a fan of this kind of anime watch it. If action, stay far away as possible from this anime. Its a love story where some shugogetten loves her master. Typical love tory, ok I guess.

| By diminishing the comic aspect of the series, Mamotte Shugogetten OVA fails and succeeds at the same time. People (like me) who was expecting the same cheerfulness and comedy of the series will be disappointed. On the other hand, several episodes of the OVA are nice, focusing on the relationship between Tasuke and Shao. Other episodes will disappoint, though, since like the series, a couple of episodes focus too much on characters that I couldn't care less about (although all the episodes came back to Tasuke and Shao at the end). Mamotte Shugogetten OVA is also episodic in nature (except episodes 4-5, which are connected), like the series. The ending doesn't seem too conclusive (a future continuation of the story, perhaps?).
Mamotte Shugogetten OVA can be also seen as just a chance to meet all the characters from the series again. This works for me; Rishu is just so cute ;)
People who watched the series (and enjoyed it) will probably enjoy the OVA, but it might be too 'out of the blue' (the relationship between Tasuke and Shao, for example) for people who hasn't yet watched the series.

| With beautiful animation and plain cute romance, it seems to push it with the OVA. There's not much to get out of this Mamotte Shugogetten OVA, just simple entertainment of nice animation, characters, and music.
Not for those who want excitement, this anime series is sorta bland and lacking.

| Mamotte Shugogetten is a cute, fun show that fans of romantic comedy anime should enjoy. The main characters are Tasuke, a likeable guy who (like many anime males) has trouble confessing his feelings to Shaolin, the guardian angel of sorts he accidentally awakens when his father sends him a strange object from an archeological dig. Throw in Ruuan, another ancient spirit and rival of Shao's who has a crush on Tasuke, add classmates in love with either Tasuke, Ruuan, or Shao, and you have the requisite complex relationship chart for a romantic comedy. The cast is pretty funny and plays off each other well, and unlike Oh My Goddess there's actually some character development, as Shao begins to think about what she wants and both her and Tasuke come to realize their feelings. The comedy element in the OVAs is supposedly less than in the TV series (haven't seen the TV series yet) but there are still some pretty funny moments.
The OVA series ran eight episodes, and assumes a lot of familiarily with the series--if I hadn't read about it on the web before I watched the first episode of the OVA it would have been kind of confusing.
Mamotte Shugogetten seems to be one of those series people either love or hate--it's frequently compared to Oh My Goddess, although to be fair OMG itself is also pretty derivative of shows like "I Dream of Jeannie". Overall, I liked Mamotte Shugogetten better--there are a lot of parallels, but where Mamotte diverges I think it tells a better story.
