It wants to be an anti-depressant to the Zeta series. Then it wants to be a set-up for Char's following film. The direction his hap-hazard and is probably the reason for the re-editing of Zeta into a movie series.

But Double Zeta Gundam receives credit for doing its best; featuring a male lead whose term for "guts" is more genuine than that of Amuro and Camille.

In fact, it felt more like a throwback to some of the earlier mecha shows that Tomino tried so hard to avoid doing. It also helped a bit when Haman's Neo-Zeon utilized a bit more comic relief than before.

Nearly the first half of the Double Zeta series is more like a parody. I must say, this is unusual for a Gundam show. This part isn’t totally bad, I had to laugh sometimes and it was pretty okay as a Gundam parody. However, starting a comedy like this in the middle of a dramatic story is a disaster. Everyone’s waiting for what will happen further, and people get a half-good comedy instead. No wonder why most Gundam fans think this is the worst Gundam show of all time. The main reason I decided to watch this show, was to see how the story from Zeta Gundam would end. I can’t say that I’m satisfied with the plot.

The second part of ZZ has a lot more serious tone. But actually, this is when it gets really, really boring. I got the same kind of feeling like watching a common cartoon on TV. The characters stay pretty much the same all of the time, no development. Neither the story was very interesting.

Good sides are the animation and sound. These are at the same level as in Zeta Gundam. Proper opening and ending songs and well done animation for being 1986. I can’t really recommend this one easily. But if you want to know the continuation of the Zeta-story, then watching Double Zeta is the only way...

Disappointing. I wanted to like it more and tried pretty hard. The contrast between Z Gundam and ZZ is shocking. Even when taken entirely on its own, ZZ fails under the very poor attempts at comedy and erratic nature of the story's tone.

Only die-hard Gundam fans should be concerned with seeing it, for it fills a space in the main UC story arc, though admittedly one you can all but do without.

Did'nt like it that much... Not much to the story and characters, and not much thrills offered unlike in Mobile Suit Zeta.

But I had to say that it was a bit fun to watch during the first run of episodes, as it got farther, it only got more serious and nonetheless senseless to watch.

Therefore, i conclude that this anime is so-so, there's not much to see here except for teenagers battling for liberty, a cliched role.

If you're planning to watch this, rent it, or better yet, don't watch it, go watch Zeta instead.

Tomino nearly wrecked this show. For the first 16 episodes the show is a disgrace to gundam. Instead of building off of Zeta's climax it stumbles around using poor comedy to try and create something.
However, once Puru arrives into the plot ,episode 18, the show changes completely.

This is by far the worst Gundam, no - quite possibly the worst anime I've ever seen.

The first opening theme of ZZ Gundam starts of by ranting, "This isn't anime, this isn't an anime..." It is god awful.

If Zeta Gundam's plot can be described as being Star Wars Episode III, then ZZ Gundam's plot can be best described as Star Wars Episode I + Jar Jar Binks on steroids.

All of the new characters are annoying, and their character development painstakingly slow.
The way the kids outsmart and outmaneuver the older, veteran characters from the previous shows makes you wonder if the producers were trying to turn this anime into Home Alone.

Having watched the way Gato steals the Gundam in 0083, I watch the Kid's lame-ass attempt at trying to steal the Zeta in ZZ, and it makes me want to punch a hole in the screen.

I would sooner recommend Kokoro Library than this piece of garbage. Stay away - far away. It supposedly gets better at the second half, but you are better off watching another Gundam series instead.

This is perhaps the worst Gundam ever. Not only is the plot totally unbelievable we have just a mess of annoying characters in this anime doing/saying stupid things all the time.

The only bright spots in this anime is some of its better characters. I liked the whole Puru and Puru 2 thing, but that's about it. They also entirely killed Haman Khan for me. She was a total bad ass in Zeta, but ZZ, she was someone else. Action scenes are your normal Gundam thingy. Songs weren't bad. Plot SUCKED. Character development . . . leaves me wordless in a bad way.

Stay away from this series if you can. Watch it only if you're trying to get the whole Armuro/Char Gundam storyline. Other wise, RUN, RUN AWAY NOW, RUN FAST, and don't stop RUNNING.

The sequel to the wonderful Zeta Gundam, ZZ Gundam took a 180 degrees turn and change into a comedy for the first half of the series. Yoshiyuki Tomino took over the second half and the story starts to take shape towards the end. But it was far too little too late because there are a lot of stuff that just doesn't make sense in the series.

Animation is pretty good considering the are from the late 80's and the theme songs are pretty catchy! But the main flaw is the story and the characters.

The first half of the story suddenly becomes a slapstick comedy that is 180 degrees different than Zeta Gundam, and at the second half, the story decides to take another turn towards a more serious side in order to solve the Neo-Zeon conflict. This simply does not work out at all because it is already hard to accept Gundam as a comedy, and then when it decided to become serious again, it just makes the whole thing horrible.

There are a lot of filler in this series that doesn't have anything to do with the actual war that they are in. And what is with Captain Bright Noah letting a bunch of teenagers take over the AEUG battleship along with the prototype MS? Those are just one of the few things that doesn't make any sense at all. However the story does redeem itself if you actually can stay till the later half of the series.

This Gundam series is OK. Although I don't like the beginning, I like what happened at the middle and the end. The tone switch from dark to light at the beginning (Last episode of Zeta, then first 16 episodes of ZZ), then it switch back to a darker tone again (the rest of the episodes.)
I think it's kind of disgraceful that the seriousness of Gundam had been made fun with by this series. Even though this series is a continuation od Zeta Gundam, it doesn't feel like Zeta Gundam until episode 18. So I kind of skim through the early part of this series. (Let see, watch only episode 1-3, 8-11, 12, 16-18, then I started to focus on this series. So I skipped many pointless episode, kind of. Don't watch episode 14-15. They are worthless.)
The actions started to heat up at episode 27-28. The war between AEUG and Neo-Zion started to become more intense. Camille Bidan does appear in this series, but too bad, he's only a side character in this series and he still can't pilot a Gundam due to the attack of Sirocco.
At the end of this series, some deaths do occur, but not as much as Zeta, Victory, and SEED. It has a happier ending then other Gundam series. What I like about the end is the one-on-one between Judau and Haman, and the rebellion of Gelemy. The relationships between Puru, Puru 2 and Judau are OK. I can't find anything to complain about.
At first, I don't really like those punk kids (Elle, Bicha, Moddo, Irai...etc. Judau's friends it is.) I think they are annoying and are too suck to become a MS pilot. I think they are very lucky enough to survive the 1st Neo Zion War.

In general, this series is not really recommended. But if you want to know what happened after Zeta, feel free to watch it.
