| Ah, Kizuna...truly a landmark in BL anime. The characters are likeable, if a tad shallow, the story is truly progressive for a BL one, and the animation is stuck in the eighties. I was under the impression that this anime was kind of bad...and reflecting on it, it kind of was. Aside from the well done depiction of gay characters, everything else is kind of a mess. The first OVA is great, but the second switches focus on a side character. Many scenes lead to nowhere - namely the 10 minute chace of Ran's sister. And I heard this is a mafia-type anime, but mob ties are only briefly mentioned for a second. If you've only got two OVAs, try to work in the most interesting part of the story.
However, the "threat" of a love triangle is really interesting, and you find yourself rooting for the main couple even though they're not developed at all. In fact, the characters though are VERY hard to read into. One minute Ran is a loving guy, the next he is beating away Enjoji! I imagine the manga is much better at developing the characters than this. So even though this is messy in several places, I still enjoyed it immensely. It has all the characteristics to send the fangirls into a frenzy - undying love, hot guys, an emotional plot - although not as much as the third OVA released in 2001. THAT is a fangirl parade.

| Just a romantic story. Nothing terribly original. It was ok enough I guess.

| 3 stars; an average yaoi story. The 3 different OVA's differ in tone and quality.

| Kizuna is great when you're looking for a nice, little bishounen retreat. It's a series of three well-composed (but unfortunately short) OVAs that tell about two men's semi-dramatic love for each other. Even though half of Kizuna is pure fan service, the other half is a decent story with well-balanced characters and animation. It's an enjoyable experience, but if you're not a bishounen/shounen-ai fan, you most likely won't go for this.
