After Koi Kaze and Sentimental Journey I didnt expect to find a romance title that would keep my attention till the final episode. But Boys Be, despite having some mediocre episodes, managed to be overall an interesting title focusing more on how males regard romance, something not found in many animes.

I found the first half more interesting than the second. Some episodes like that #2 with the French girl were touching, while others featured more on comedy (realistic comedy, not ridiculous moments) and various romance relations.

True the relation of the main characters could have been better developed but I actually appreciated the fact the producers decided to leave the story open ended as in real life. Some of the characters werent that convincing but it didnt matter really.

Animation was subpar (still better than Kare Kano) and character design of the worst I've seen, while the music was decent. Also the OP and ED were very good. Also notice that some of the pets during the eye-catch appeared in the ED of Saber Marionette J to X (both were produced by HAL after all)

Where the anime really becomes interesting is the realism of the various situation the characters need to face, though it doesnt reach a maturation to make this memorable, except a couple of episodes.

As a manga it could have been much better, but still a decent title surrounded by countless ecchi/harem/fanservice titles.

Recommended watching once.

Boys be isn't much of a romantic anime, but then again it doesn't try to be and for that I give this anime credit. The story is simple yet each story has a message and for that it turned into one where I was awaiting eagerly for each episode. Boys be is sort of like an ice cream cone, the flavor of the cone is always the same, but the topping only differs.

I didn't like this series. First of all animation. Lots of chars looked like hamsters. The chicks weren't good looking. The guys weren't studly or cool. They were dorks, I kinda hated them. The main guy especially seemed emo and I just did not like him, he was some artistic type.

I don't remember any songs from this. Maybe I watched too much in fast forward. It's the kind of series where I felt I could get away with FF. I wanted it to be done with quickly. There's some melodrama, which I can never stand, and no comedy that I recall. Not fun at all. Production value is low too--the intermission has live footage, never a good sign.

Story is about lovey dovey relationships of a few characters. The pairings weren't ideal for me at the conclusion. Yeah, I was pretty pissed off at the end of this thing. Things could've turned out in a much more satisfying way I think. Maybe the series was going for the realistic approach. I don't like that much. Realism be damned. And same for this series. Watch something better. Come to think of it, watch Suzuka. I saw it after this I think, and it blew this away. Both had sports.

I thought that KgNE is the most boring show I've ever watched, I was wrong, I forgot about one series that I've wtached some four years ago. Something like Boys be is really forgettable, it doesn't deserve a space in my memory. Actually, I was just forcing myself to watch this and I wonder how the heck it got into top 140, it doesn't even deserve to be on top 200.

I don't remember much about the events but I'll try to write some that are still in my head. There is this episode about a character who seems like a photographer of some sort and just taking pictures of different flowers, another is about a character who had a crush on the nurse that took care of him when he had an accident, another character's encounter with an actress. Mostly, the story is about a male will have a crush on a female and at the end of the episode, they're just "dumped", meaning nothing happened. And the plot just revolves around those kinds of events.

Well the description on animenfo by Takahiro Shinomura-san was absolutely right on this anime. At first this anime was one of the most boring anime with the most lackadaizical storyline and characters ever. Nothing basically seems to happen as all the characters just have this "may be I love her" type of episodes. No character development nor any progression in storyline till about episode 07. That's where this anime begins to turn things around with interesting look at realistic relationships between teenage boy and a girl.

What caught me by surprise was its seemless transition into the second half. Everything looked to be the same, but things began to happen and character began to be more involved with more involving thoughts. At first yawn, I found myself slowly paying more attention to the screen.

Characters also get involved in conflict. that's right conflict. first half there basically was no real conflict, which made the first half one of the most lame thing i've seen. As relationship between character cme into conflict of some kind the anime also began to come alive. The characters at first felt rather cliche, but eventually they became real. Situation they get involved in and their reaction becomes believable.

what was the most interesting was its animation too. Animation in the first half and second half was slightly different, which I think made all the difference. Music was pleasant, but sometimes it just overwhelmed some of the scenes where I would just like to have silence.

Well no matter how good the second half is there is really no way to make up for the first half. Good thing happen way to late and it doesn't really end well for that matter. I would mildly recommend this anime for people with a strong taste for romance drama and great patience. If you like fast paced anime this obviously won't do it.

Boys Be... is not based on anything much except for a bunch of high school friends going through puberty... And also on growing feelings between Chiharu and Kyoichi.
I felt it was a little boring and slow maybe during the first few episodes of the anime... But after that the characters develop beautifully and the story becomes meaningful. I especially like the Kyoichi's sayings at the starting and ending of each episode (if I remember correctly), they have a special meaning behind them.
It's a nice anime (I feel that word suits it the most) and not too heavy... I feel that teens should watch it. XD

This is a good drama/comedy/romance anime, you get three in one package. Even though it was short, just watching the anime could even make you fall in love with it. Though it was a bit perv-minded in the beginning, it got a bit mushy, or sentimental as it goes on through... I never really expected how the characters will be paired up, I had thought otherwise, contradicting each pair. But in the end I knew that they were really meant for each other. Romance animes always have this powerful feeling upon me, which gets to me, and gives me a fresh perspective about love. Artwork was cool, though no real effort was exerted to the male characters. Music? I only liked Aki Maeda's song in the opening. Characters aplenty, they were the ones who provided the most enjoyment in the anime. To wrap this up, It's a romance anime. The whole reason why you should watch it!

Might Want to Watch - i liked it and would suggest it to some, but it may be too romantic / innocent / heartwarming for others.

the character development is a bit lacking due to each of the plots or storylines only lasting a maximum of a couple eps. the feel of this anime is a bit slow, but with this slow pace there is also a serenity interjected in places. the animation itself was average and pretty typical of the times. don't expect too much in that area.

if you want to slow down from an action packed series, this may not be your best choice. but don't shun it either, it'll be worth your time to watch it.

At first, Boys Be seems to be another harem/high school romantic/ecchi comedy.
It's not. It is a very nice romantic story about a couple of high school kids discovering love, from a boys' point of view.

For me, this is the best in romantic anime. It's realistic, and it gives you this really melancholic feeling, but it does cheer you up somewhat in the last episode. I enjoyed every single episode of it, I was really pleasantly surprised by this anime. This is my all-time favourite, at least in the genre, it's kind of hard to compare it.

Watch this if you like slice of life anime.

This anime is so flat. Not too many dimensions to it.

Characters seem so lifeless
A decent story line basis, I mean, you can't really go wrong with choosing a love romance of high school times, but the story develops quite flatly.

Not much character development. Too many relationships. This wouldn't be bad if they only made each segment interesting. The relationships between the two main characters were pretty interesting, but not shown enough in this short anime.

Animation doesn't have many facial expressions, so it makes the characters seem quite flat. There are way too many simple movements. Panning across one cell-type thing. Not much movement

I think this seem to be targeted towards .... perhaps those people in love and will overlook the boredom of this anime. Otherwise, it just gives a feeling of someone's side project.

Lack of emotion, despite their attempt at some drama. Lack of intensity, lack of interest...

Pretty decent. This show has a nostalgic feel and actually kept my interest. It's cheesy, but not in that soap-opera manner. Every ep begins and ends with a similar positive vibe.

At the end of this kind of anime some folks might ask themselves, "what is the point?" since it doesn't ask any hard questions. But who cares, right? Even if you hate 'guilty pleasures' this one is okay.

The character drawings were occasionally a bit wonky. The snapshots of live girls in bathing suits were surprising bumper segments.

This is a very crumy anime. There is not develpment of plot. Each episode is boring and has no comedy in it at all. All the relationships are half-assed, with no romance at all. There is a new girl for each episode, which stops any progress of story between the main characters. And for only 13 episodes it tries showing 6 different love stories for each character. The people in this anime are unmotived about love or there relationship, if something happens the just move to the next girl or guy. This and green green are the only 2 romance series I didnt like and ive watch alot of this kind of genre.

Boys Be, a nice, calm, non-ecchi hartwarming romance anime with a more grown-up and serious attitude... the sentimental experiences of youth seen from the boys point of view... different from almost most of the romance animes there, this one is a must-watch in my opinion for all the true romance/growing-up anime fans.

Animation:
There are no action scenes in wich you can expect cutting edge special effects, but even so i still gave the animation such high grades, why? I loved the character design, it just on my taste, but i have to say the quallity of the animatio fluctuated from an episode to the other.... The backgrounds were ok and then in the last episode turn into beautiful.

Sound:
The Op/ed themes were beautiful, fantastic, so was the background music wich through their romantic, soft, laid-back and dream-like, reminesence sounds blended into perfection with the story creating such a powerfull mood, as if you yourself were going back in time, remembering those beautiful highschool days, and those harthwarming experiences.

Story:
First of all you shoulds't judge the anime after the first episodes, it might seem a bitt boring but once you acomodate with the characters it becomes ok and at the end it you wold regret it's over so soon.. but that's just my opinion.

It's moslty formed out of small episodic situations and experiences that develop the characters from the childish "i love the girls legs" to a more mature and deep understanding of the sentiment of love and life...This is just a story that focuses on the sentimental experiences of a few teenagers in the course of the year's four seasons without actually aiming for a finish line of the plot, and so giving the impression that it's just a chapter of the peoples life, a story without an ending as their life continues past this story of learning.

I loved the phoetic monologues at the begining and at the end of every episode, filled with truth about life, love, sadness, lonliness, friendship, and about the unstopable flow of time, all related and exemplified with the help of the four seasons of the year.

Enjoyement and Value:
Even dough the story isn't spectacular i still found it to be a very rewarding anime wich managed to create such a nice mood filled with sentiment wich cannot be explained without watching it. For that wonderfull mood, for serious interpretation of the boy's view on love, and for it's moral and emotionaly educative ideas i have to give it a high grade.

I should probably mention that the action fans, or the romance/harem/fanservice fans would be dissapointed by this one as it doesn't contain any of those elements, exept love, but viewed in a more realistic and deep way then your ussual "beautiful girl with mysterious past falls in love with the lead male character who's a total wimp, just because he shelters her and he has a good harth, and so making the people around them jeallous"... no this is nothing like that.. so perverts stay away from this...

For the few who actually enjoy a story about growing up and understanding love... WATCH THIS... especially if you're a girl and think that boys are just pigs, maybe this would change your ideas;)

Boys Be is about a group of high school friends dealing with love and their hormones and how they mature as time goes by. It accurately shows how different types of people could fall in love and how they would express they way they feel. I also liked it because of its realism. The story didnt consist of any magical being or force or super machines, nor did it have a certain animalistic character that pops up in every episode.

Boys Be is a nice slice of life anime. Its selling point is that it gives the romance from a guy’s point of view, but with a very serious feel to it. Although it isn’t the most exciting show ever made, it certainly pulls off what it attempts to quite well. It is a nice change of pace to see a romantic show that doesn’t rely solely on slapstick comedy and fan service. The only problem with the show is it can drag a bit because of the total focus on romance and the episodic nature of the show.

Overall Grade: C+

I liked this anime because it was very different from most of the stuff out there. It took a look at life from the viewpoint of a boy. And it follows the three main characters through changes as they grow and learn about themselves and life in general. I didn't like the animation too much, I thought the girls looked too masculine, but that is just personal opinion. This story probably has more real life value than most of the animes I've seen just because it is actually a lot closer to real life than many animes, and it examines real issues with characters that you can relate too as average, real people. Overall this was a good anime and I would suggest watching it.

Boys Be is a fairly recommendable feel-good romance series. It evolves through the eyes of the high school students as they are learning to grow up and experince love. Watching this show reminds you of your first love, or your current relationship, and makes you rethink of all your good and bad times. You will learn to see a different side or look through things in a different perspective. Although slow at times, each episode is meaningful and filled with emotions, not to mention the nice quotes in every episode too.

Boys Be was just what I was looking for, a more "grown up" romance, without all those elements from haremseries, as many romance shows tends to have.

Each episode follows two persons romance between eachother, from the guys point of view.
Later on, it developes to an even more serious love story, and the main characters feelings towards his love.

Boys Be have some very nice and beautiful music, not just only the op/end(which was really beautiful, especially the ending-theme), but also good background music, which fits the mood.
It doesn't have hilarious animation, but it does have very good , so it's nothing to complain about. The lines and proposions are used very clever.

All of the characters are well designed, have good development, and feels very realistic, which make the story realistic and good.
Although the ending could have been more "straight forward", I didn't think it was bad at all. After all, it worked out just as I wanted.

Boys be is a well done romance story, with many good quilities.
I enjoyed it all the way, so if you are looking for a serious and more realistic romance, for the more mature audience, then take a look at this, give it a try.
It's not a masterpiece, but yet very good.

After watching the first episode, inner groans and gritted teeth were my initial reactions. I predicted that this was going to be just more trite harem trash: ecchi drivel, brainless female characters, perverted, idiotic, and spineless male characters, no romance, and (lest I forget) a "prepubescent filled with lust." I was fully prepared to write a negative review, plastering a 4.2 on it all the while. Little did I know that I was in for my biggest surprise since Sailor Moon: This is actually good.

Not only is there not a horny twelve-year old present, but the males actually have redeemable qualities. Although they're not exactly breaking any genre rules (like Seiji from Midori no Hibi), they're not Keitaro clones either. It's just a shame that they're still so bland that I couldn't remember their names. (I used nicknames instead.) Because there are three main guys and each episode deals with one of them interchangeably, it was hard to focus or really care about any of them. Sure, they're likable enough. But they're just not interesting. Considering the title, they definitely should have been. The girls in the story are only secondary characters, used as pawns to aid the boys in their adolescence. "Yeti girl" seemed as if she would be a more important character, but after episode seven, she's nearly nonexistent. None of the other girls are worth mentioning. The reason I didn't score lower than a five is because there is something real about the characters. They represent what makes being a teenager the best and worst times of a lifetime: insecurity, friendship, competition, and damn it, even summer flings.

When the characters leave a bit of something to be desired, Boys Be somewhat delivers with its story. This is what Kanon wanted to be but couldn't. Unlike Kanon, where half the series is boring trash (and the latter, laughable trash), Boys Be has something to say in each episode. Using seasons to complement its story, the series confronts dreams, relationships, loneliness, and hope. Despite the episodic nature, I found myself somewhat enjoying this. However, I also found it to be two steps away from being boring. It took me longer than I thought it would to finish this series. There's absolutely no urgency and I wasn't exactly waiting with bated breath to see what will happen. This brings me to the last episode. The final episode of any series should have a climax and most importantly, finality. The last episode of Boys Be could just as easily been any other random episode in the series. And the fact the girl involved (Kyoichi is involved with a different girl just about in every episode that focuses on him) only appeared at that time just made it worse. In any case, the "ending" definitely put a sour taste in my mouth.

Despite that it was slightly boring and stale, it's something that I'll recommend. As an anime, it's average: There's nothing great or outstanding about this show. As a "romantic comedy," however, the show is damn near fantastic.

This anime is packed with ups and downs of various relationship. Every episode features a different story and there is new romance formed along the way. But in my opinion, there is nothing special about it. This anime is boring for me. There isn't any scene that makes me feel touched and the progress is really slow. One of the worst anime i've ever seen.
