"Hey, you know what's hot now?"
"No, what?"
"Making anime based off H-games, but leaving out the H!"
"No way! We gotta cash in on this!"

The above is what I suspect went on in the conception stage of Ajimu Kaigan Mongatari (whether Ajimu was actually an H-game or not, I dunno, but it was a PC game...just let me imagine...). However, it looks like they couldn't get enough support to relase these on DVDs, so to the internet! While Ajimu isn't quite up to the usual OAV standards, it's not bad at all. Although it's story has been done to death, Ajimu's aura is quite different. The setting, the songs and the characterizations are all laid-back, as opposed to the usual uptight characters in these love-dramas. And it's short, so if you don't like it, it's not a huge commitment.

This was a really good anime, it was better than i thought it would be. The animation was alright, the characters moved a little slow and choppy at times, but is overall good because the characters were well detailed. The sound is really good too, im not sure if i like the OP theme too much though, it reminded me of Marmalade Boy sort of. All the characters were enjoyable, i thought i would hate some of them, but they all contributed to the story. The ending was way too predictable and i think the story was a little weak on how they tried to portray a symbollic meaning with that seashell/acorn thing (for those who know what im talking about). They tossed in a little fan service, im all for fan service, but if you watch this anime, youll feel like the fanservice shots were really unneeded. Also something else taht bother me was that sometimes during the character conversations, they would say really weird things, and you wouldnt know that they were talking about, but then theyw ould smile at each other and laugh together, and you're still trying to interpret whatever they were talking about. But overall the pace of this anime was really well done, it didnt feel very rushed like i thought it would, but they may have put an over exaggerated ending though.. But i reccommend watching this anime at least once.

if watching indecisive men, this is not your genre. the story is built nicely due to accidents* and progresses slolwly throughout the series.

Fairly nicely done for a 4eps OVA. Characters were drawn nicely and was consistent throughout the 4eps. I love the sound from this series.. her voice is pretty good! Character development was lacking, but do i expect from 4eps.. i enjoyed watching this series because i liked the character themselves!

Ajimu Kaigan Monogatari comes off pretty much as average in every aspect being a romance story.

Being an ONA as well as developed back in 2001, the animation quality is obvious lacking when you start watching the anime. While a nice colour palette choice, the animation in general could be much more polished.

The sound however, is probably the best for this series. With Akira Ishida (the Athrun in Gundam SEED) and the famous Chiba Saeko leading the cast, the voice cast is excellent for this short series. And one can never go wrong for using Chiba Saeko in the theme songs for anime.

There is nothing much to talk about in terms of story and its characters. Because this is such a stock anime, where there are no twists and dramas. And because of it short length, there are no character development, and the story being as average as you can get, there's no much fault of the writing, but there's also no point of having it in the first place. It's hard to rate the series anything higher than average.

If you ever come across this series, it doesn't hurt to watch it. But don't stress yourself over not ever heard of this or not being able to find a copy of this, because there are thousands out there that's better than this one.

Hmm, pretty OK, although it's painful to watch good design being killed by extremely trashy animation in first 2 eps. Story is your average romance, rather predicatble, but doesn't get in the way. Characters are rather OK, and some are really cute. All in all, OK to watch, but nothing exceptional.

FS(3/10)

This one has a cute little story and nice (character sung) music. Overall animation quality is good but some character shots/angles seem oddly shaped and/or out of place.

(FS= FanService Scale, Zero being Akira, 10 being Aika)

One of the better romance anime I have seen. The story, while not too original, is simple and sweet. And the characters are very likeable. I am glad it didn't go beyond 4 episodes or it would have become stale. It also features a nice resolution to the love hexagon. Interestingly, I found myself rooting for one of the supporting girls instead of the main character Ajimu.

it was distributed to members of an internet provider. thus explains the skipping and the not so hot quality of the animation in some points (like how ajimu moves her move when no words come out?) but this ends pretty much in the first ep. besides, its not the animation that makes the anime, right?
anyway, a short, nice ova about the blossoming relationship between ajimu and nakaido that has its bumpy starts. that's sweet, right? and throw in the love triangle, then a quadrilateral, and then getting hit by a truck while trying to save someone, etc etc. you get the idea. however, ajimu pulls this off pretty well, and the end song, orange seashell, is pretty nicely sung. im also a sucker for ren ai type anime like these, so im gonna give this a 9 for enjoyment.
