| Pretty good for a parody, most of those characters were so weird and zany in the entire story. I also liked their given over-typical names. The story was purposely clichéd, and were involved with two characters who were involved with some messed up stuff. The story had some action and those times were just too hilarious. But what I thought was that C-ko was just too annoying on her part, with her constant crying from the whole time that it just got too repetitive. But I guess was supposed to be part of the humor in the plot itself. And those other side characters who were in the series, were a lot more weirder than the main characters themselves during the middle of the story. If you liked Excel Saga, you’d probably like this one. Also, it may not be too good of a watch if you haven’t seen enough of the sci-fi/mecha genre.

| If you're into crazy anime comedy, this one is a classic.
Project A-ko (the first OAV) was the first full-length anime I ever watched in my life. That was 12 years ago, and I still love this anime even now. I agree with one of the previous reviewers (Appleseed) that some of the merit of this anime lies in the fact that it doesn't take itself seriously. On the other hand, what makes it so funny and entertaining to me is that it's not a psychodelic, continuity-deprived insanity fest like Excel Saga and the like. This anime depicts two girls fighting over a kawaii blonde clueless cutie, using superpowers and superweapons, and parodying half a dozen anime cliches before getting down to have school lunch before afternoon class. :) A must-see.

| Yawn. I know this is supposed to be a parody so I shouldn't expect any actual plot or character development. But then you have to get the jokes to enjoy it at all. It only works if you've seen a lot of anime and you get the jokes, and even then the humor in A-ko is only mildly entertaining. Yawn again. Nothing special here. If you want fun parody watch Excel Saga; A-ko is just average. Add the annoying B-ko (made me wanna slap her myself) and you can see where this is going.
On the plus side, the animation is good (for the 80's). Also, the "serious" sequences are very well done; it could fool someone who didn't know he was watching a parody into thinking it's actually a very good show. Makes you wonder if the studio (Pony Canion) ever did "serious" anime, because they clearly had the potential. I haven't watched any of their works, those that are listed here on AnimeNfo, so I can't say.

| This is classic old school anime greatness, plain and simple. Even after watching all the fancy new crap with great animation like Last Exile or Inuyasha, you have got to love the classic stuff like Project A-ko. The naming of the characters was the most generic naming job I've ever seen, but it's just funny. Every fan of anime should watch stuff like this just to know their roots. Besides, this show has stuff that most series won't touch like cross-dressing (big guys in bikinis, oh joy) and lesbian love (that's better). Great movies.

| Of all the parody animes out there, this is my favorate one. Why? Because there are so many little inside jokes and details that are really interesting or funny.
The animation isn't very good, but it was done in 1886. The story is so funny and the perody characters are hilarious. I guess parody characters now are a little different than the project a-ko characters, oh well. Like all parodys, if you get it you get it.

| A proud member of the "old school." This anime is still as great as it was back in the day. The animation is a bit dated by now, but the mecha designs are a refreshing blast to the past. Many newer fans will like seeing some of what is becoming more popular in anime, girl-girl relationships, high-school feuding, superpowers, everyday people getting giatn combat mechs, ect. It's got a little somethign for everyone. I'd put it on a shelf of the classics right between Akira and Ranma.

| Perhaps the winner in the "oldies but goodies" category. It is a very fun anime with alot of wierd characters and a twisted but fun story. This is another of those classics one should have seen to be able to call oneself an "anime fan".

| This is the grandaddy of anime parodies, poking fun at everything out at the time of (and preceding) its release. Compared to other features of the time, A-ko had some seriously killer production values and a hilarious story (that can, honestly, be appreciated for its shamelessness without the knowledge of the anime being parodied, which I'm sure many fans today do not possess). I recommend this extremely highly!

| A hilarious anime parody of damn near every major anime in the early to mid 80s along with a slew of other things, it's what initially got me into anime. Well worth the watching time. However, be aware that unless you're a big fan of 70s and early 80s anime, and knowledgeable about Japanese culture, a decent amount of the injokes are going to seem odd. Also be aware that none of the sequels it spawned are anywhere near as good as the original.
Its got interesting music too.
