i usually dont enjoy movies of shounen anime very much but one piece movie 1 is an exception. it mixes some hilarious moments with a sad story and beautiful animated fighting scenes. overall i enjoyed the scenes with luffy and zoro but the ridiculous moral cut away some of the enjoyment.

The best way to view this is as a 50 minute extra to add onto the TV series inbetween meeting Usopp and getting "Merry" and before meeting Sanji.

It's a fun "extra" side story about a young boy's dream to meet an infamous pirate called Woonan who stole 1/3rd of the world's gold and hid it on the island of his birth. The story involves a band of nasty pirates who are searching for the gold and of course this leads to our heroes having to save the day!

Definitely worth watching if you love One Piece, but doesn't really stand alone as a movie.

This is my first one piece movie I have seen. In my opinion I thought it was very entertaining. One Piece proves that you can have a one hour movie thats just as enjoyable as a two hour movie. Well this has a good pit of action and some comedy.

Animation - I can't grade the animation because video quality screwed around and made the movie a litte bluury at times

Sound - This is a high point of the movie. The japanese voice acting was very top notch. The opening song was very catchy and entertaining. They fit the characters well.

Story - The story was awesome. It was about a famous pirate named Woonan's treasure, he owned 1/3 of all treasure. A bad pirate who wants Woonan's treaure is after it and its up to the Straw Hat Crew to stop him.

Characters - Thie characters were pretty good same as in One Piece. Though you should watch some of the series before you look for a lot of character developementb from a movie.

Value - I will definitly rewatch this one day because its very entertaining. A must see for any One Piece fan.

This feels more like an OVA than a movie, seeing as it's 50 minutes. It's still great that captures the same feel that the actual TV series touches on. Woonen is a great pirate that had captured 1/3 of the world's gold. Though it seemed like he has died, and pirates pursue the gold he has stolen. Tobio, a boy who admires the pirate, wants to meet Woonen and become a member of his crew. El Drago however, wants to kill him and steal all the gold Woonen stole. The Straw Hat Pirates happen to be in the middle of it all.

One Piece is one of the best shows because it does a good job of magnifying empathy through the background stories of its characters. It takes over 20 episodes for a successful arc to be memorable, so it's kind of difficult for a 50 minute video achieving the same level. Nonetheless, the movie does touch on why One Piece is so great. Luffy, being the airhead he is, is as funny as ever. The same goes with Usopp with his cowardly remarks and far fetched lies. Nami is as money hungry as ever, and Zoro, can't say much about him. The story behind Woonen was also satisfying.

The animation still retains the same look, but the quality is quite bad. When you've watched 130 episodes in the series, which covers almost 4 years of watching, and looking back at the first couple episodes, you can see a major improvement in animation. Since this movie is suppose to be set before the Grand Line, I guess it was expected to have degraded picturing. Though despite that, the major battle near the end is one of the top fights in the entire series. The music and sounds don't suffer from the same circumstances, and are pretty much the predictable, yet good.

One Piece fans should definitely watch the first movie in the series. It doesn't match the magnitude of the show, but it's still a great treat. Though it's not essential, seeing as the story is completely unaffected by the movie, and the events are not brought up later on. But if you're a person that wants to make the most out of an anime, then there's no other answer to give except for go for it.

A once great pirate who stole a third of the world's gold, creating himself a mountain of treasure from only the evil, has long since faded from the spotlight and his treasure along with him. Luffy and Co. set out on another high seas adventure, this time after his legendary treasure.

The One Piece movie is, more or less, exactly like the series. The art, story, and production are all about the same as a handful of episodes played back to back. While this might not thrill anyone expecting a big budget punch, the good news is it's a nice self contained story. It's really nice to see the whole story in one sitting, and the increased pace of the fights add to the fun without cliffhanger endings.

While the story isn't the strongest to date, it was still quite entertaining, funny, and full of action. The battles were well animated, fun to watch, and fast paced. The new characters were about as good as your average filler characters, and way better than many. The backstory was entertaining enough, and for once I didn't feel like the extras were just wasting my time.

So the downside is that it's not very important in the grand scheme of One Piece. It's the meat and potatoes action / adventure that makes the series tick played out in movie length, but it's still a good One Piece adventure and that's certainly good enough for me. Some good laughs, some good fights, and a fairly decent story make this well worth checking out.

There have been 13 movies based off of DBZ. Most of them were pretty subpar. It's *usually* the same with most series with multiple movies. Although this movie is far below the series in general, its still worth a see.

The animation actually looks worse than the series.. as amazing as it seems. Unimpressive, but I've also seen far worse for anime movies.

The sound was good. Nothing over-the-top though. No annoying voices.

The story was alright - dealing with something that pirates should be after - TREASURE! A little different from the series in this respect. Flashback was well done.

Some of the new characters were actually pretty strong. Strong as in personality and character in general, not muscle. The main baddie had sort of a lame power for a devils fruit user, though. Luffy showed his strong will in this movie just as good as the series. The only unfortunate thing was my main man, Sanji, wasn't in it.

Overall, a decent watch, especially if you're a One Piece fan. I'd probably watch it again if someone I know hadn't seen it.

::By the way... what the hell is up with the description on the main page? Its totally inaccurate.::

Wanted to watch One Piece with honest-to-goodness animation? Here's your chance! Taking a book from the DBZ movies of lore, it's a short tangent story with good animation and simple minded humor. It lacks the depth and elongated fight-scenes of the show, but it's still genuinely worthwhile.

Other than making my hungry for Oden, I can't complain about this movie.

For fans of the series, you'll watch it (after episode 18 of the series probably).

Frankly its a movie the length of 2 episodes... there not much "funny" in it either. The enemys certainly do not seem deep/well designed this time (well it is only 50 mins long...) and the story is bordering on rubbish (no wait the story WAS rubbish...).

For a good comparison it is episode 18 2x as long!. Utter crap... :'(

If you havent watched one piece yet and are feeling you want a preveiw into the anime before you download that lovely 20+ gig of episodes. WAIT, DONT do it!!!! I strongly believe this could turn you off of the WHOLE series!!!!

Animation:- same as the episodes, good, but let down by poor art, not as good as we expect to see currently BUT still very watchable (noteabley wasnt improved for movie).

Sound:- Fine... Perfect nothing wrong, nothing special, still included theme-tunes from series, but they are slightly longer! :)

Story:- Utter Crap. Refills you in on what the basic story is (incase you was in a coma for the first 18 episodes). The small story by itself is nothing compared to Captain Buggy's or Captain Kuro's (watch the series to find out!).

Character:- Same let down as the Story. (The new characters brought in are rubbish = story is going to be rubbish).

Value:- utterly essential if you are watching the series... not watching the movie is like not-watching one of the filler episodes (you lose little from the story but since when do you not watch filler episodes?) , its essential and i think 99% of fans will burn this to disk to add to their collection.

"One Piece" is incomplete without it!

Enjoyment:- It was very painfull to sit through :'( ! Still i have seen worse.

Like one really long tv episode, only it does not recieve the face-lift most tv show-based movies get once they hit the big screen. Also it looks more like a TV movie rather than something theatricly released. I wonder if this is correct?

The story is a one-shot and not all that entertaining despite the usual level of entertainment One-Piece offers. Perhaps it is because its a one-shot storyline with no impact on the TV show. Its a treat for hardcore fans, but not much else.

The first movie for One Piece is mediocre at best, and not nearly as good as the general continuity of the series. It isn't totally horrid, but it brings nothing to the series. It takes a very familiar routine for a movie...take the characters, and each one matches up against a suitable enemy which matches their skills to a certain extent. This is a formula used in the show a few times, but it never seems so forced or cheap as it does in here.

As the story is essentially a one-shot filler, it suffers from what all filler suffers from. They have a mandate to do nothing, change nothing, and add nothing. This essentially chokes any creativity, and the One Piece movie is a disappointment overall, although still mildly enjoyable for fans of the series.

I strongly disagree with shortie. According to him, if you like the series you'll love the movie... it's quite the other way around.

I can't imagine anybody who isn't a One Piece fan even remotely enjoying this movie. However, for any One Piece fan who ran out of episodes to watch and manga to read, this (along with the other 3 movies) offers nothing more than a bonus adventure of the characters us One Piece fanatics love so dearly.

The animation is identical to the TV series' in every way. If they can animate a 20 minute TV series episode in a week, does that mean they spent a mere 3 weeks animating this movie? I wouldn't be suprised, actually.

While I highly reccomend One Piece in all it's shapes and forms, you're much better off going for the TV series or manga. If you can't find either, downloading this wouldn't be a waste of bandwith.

More like a longer ep than a movie. One Piece Movie only features the 4 main character of the saga, Luffy, Zoro, Nami and Usopp so I suppose this movie is before the Sanji/Don Krieg saga begins.

Actually it's a pretty fun film with some good action and fighting scenes. Not an awesome movie, not that great of a story but still a must see for the fans of this awesome series.

Overall the anime is pretty good, I like the comedy in it, there isn't much really for story, not the kind of story that one is really looking for in an anime.
