| "One who manipulates puppets manipulates humans. The art of ventriloquism is the art of mind reading. It is not just the tone you imitate, but the very inner voice."
Ayatsuri Sakon is an interesting episodic detective show about a genius puppeteer Sakon who is lucky enough to fall into a "one of the guys in the closed house is a murderer" situations pretty much every few days. And of course, using his sharp mind and overwhelming skill at imitation, he solves all of the cases in the end.
Though this show packs some neat ideas it never really rivals other mystery anime like Monster or Higurashi no Naku Koro ni... It has some interesting crimes, but is brought down by downright pathetic characterization of villains and the suspects. Somewhat above average main character is not good enough to save the day either. Anyway, watch Ayatsuri Sakon for simple fun, as I doubt you will remember much about it after a year or two has passed. It's interesting until you know who the villain is. And I must say there were a few cases where the villain was hidden pretty well. Anyway, no groundbreaking story, nor any multi-dimensional characters can be found in this anime, just plain mystery fun.
Your detective's blood burning for some homicide mysteries to be solved? Give Ayatsuri Sakon a shot... just don't expect Sherlock Holmes.

| I really enjoyed this series even though it did use a few cliched ideas. Also, I was able to figure out the murderer in more than half of the arcs before he/she was revealed. The series is a nice series to casually watch. It's enjoyable and a nice break from anime that tries too hard to be mysterious and then ends without answering any of the questions it raises. In Ayatsuri Sakon, all your questions are answered at the end with no loose ends.

| I tried this out whilst waiting for the latest episode of FMA and i'm really glad I did.
The two mysteries I've seen so far( episodes 1-7) have been very intelligently done and although you could probably work it out from the clues given - it's not easy.
It's a good murder mystery and i'd definately recommend it to fans of the genre.

| Based on the first 5 episodes:
If I had to describe Ayatsuri Sakon in a couple of words, I would say "CLUE THE BOARDGAME".
Ayatsuri Sakon to me relates to CLUE so many ways but with a good spin as the main character being a puppeteer with loud mouth puppet named Ukon.
Ayatsuri Sakon thus far seems to be more of a mystery aimed for the college crowd and up with it's somewhat more complex stories and issues.
Like mysteries? Love Clue? Give this anime a try, be sure to watch the first 3 episodes.

| I am a huge fan of the mystery genre, so I may be coming into this review a little bit biased, but Ayatsuri Sakon is a diamond in the rough. If there is one overused phrase that speaks the most about it, that phrase would be "simple but beautiful". Everything about its atmosphere is masterfully subtle and quietly powerful. It experiments with crossing the mystery and horror genres and produces interesting and enthralling results.
Ayatsuri Sakon has no recurring plot. It's a murder mystery series, after all, and it is difficult to create a congruent plot within the scope of 26 episodes. Viewed separately, however, the plots of the anime are fairly well-designed and thought out. It makes a little too much use of the 'isolated environment murder' which often recurs in mysteries of this type, which tends towards repetition. Otherwise, detection is interesting and the conclusion is always reached in a satisfying way. There isn't a terrible lot to say about this anime in the story field, to be honest, except for the fact that it is agreeably produced and presented.
As previously mentioned, Ayatsuri Sakon has three important recurring characters: Sakon Tachibana, his puppet Ukon and his sister Kaoruko. She herself is a decently developed police detective, somewhat incompetent as most of them tend to be in detective serials and a kick-back kind of character. That aside, one of the strongest elements of Ayatsuri Sakon is the dynamic relationship between Sakon and Ukon. Ukon is such an intriguing and fun character that it is very easy to forget that he's just a puppet, which is a surprise that comes as an interesting shock to one character in episode 4. Sakon is also interesting in that he is the perfect foil for his mischevious puppet; while red-headed Ukon is a loudmouthed, brash womanizer, Sakon is reserved and intelligent. Even their names, which literally translate out to left and right (as in opposing political parties) reflect this fascinating relationship. Half of the fun of watching this anime is the dynamics between the two. Supporting characters are generally distinctive in design and personality, though not terribly memorable.
Like I said before, my bias may be speaking for me but I devoured Ayatsuri Sakon. It is a brilliantly-woven mystery tale with one of the most engaging lead characters featured in any anime, and its atmospheric beauty is simply unbeatable. The things I appreciate Ayatsuri Sakon for are subtle ones, so perhaps they'd be missed by a more casual viewer, but this is truly a poignant and beautiful experience.

| The setting is subtle and gorgeous, the animation is perfect and the main character is truely an original. Thumbs up all around! The storyline of the first three episodes is it's weakest point, it's rather clique, but not agonizingly so. It's also very cool to see an anime with so many traditional japanese themes set in modern times, it's a great contrast.
Last note: Sakon and Ukon rock! They mad me not care that the plot was only So So!

| A murder mystery style anime so far. The first 2 eps certainly did a good job of getting my attention and not letting it go! Give it atleast until the second ep.

| Aka Karakuri Zoushi Ayatsuri Sakon
Maybe it will be interesting for other pple to note that the mangaka also draws Hikaru no Go.
I really like this show. The main character is so handsome~~ Animation is really beautiful. Like the beginning scene in episode 8 where Sakon is lost, it captures a peaceful, idle atmosphere, but peace doesn't last long in detective animes...
Not only that, within that scene, it gives indepth about the relationship/dependence of Sakon and Ukon. So there's good character development.
I love the opening song and the ending do catch up on me slowly. the bgm is nice too. In fact, the sound effects of first case did give me the creeps. After rewatching the series, I love the bgm, it's a mixed of traditional japanese instruments music and modern. In most cases, the bgm really plays up the atmosphere of the scene. superb!
There are 2 other songs in the anime that are also beautiful to my ears.
I like how the mystery is solved within a few episodes, instead of the usual one mystery per episode (aka detective conan). But still... I do find some parts drag a bit, especially when you figure out who is the culpirt...
This anime also reveals some japanese traditional culture, like the traditional puppet shows (no it's nothing like Punch and Judy).
I would like to stress the fact again that the art/drawing is really, honto ni sugoi! So do try to get good quality versions of the episodes.
Haha I've finally bought the legal version of Sakon. The ending is good!! But sadly they didn't include the back into the past arc (which happens in the manga) That is really a big disappointment... Still, the ending does tied up the strings.
It can be quite uncomforting to watch blood coming out like sprinkle on full blast, when being stabbed.
