Can you say rip off? well tenchi muyo gxp can. seriously like half the elements of the show were stolen from Van Dread. However, this show forgot to steal one thing, the ability to not suck. oh yeah and this show apparently also has its picture next to the word crappy in the dictionary... at least in mine it dose

TM:GXP is about senia Yamada who has the ultimate bad luck. seriously, everythig he toutches dies, blows up or falls apart. (ok not everything) so anyway he somehow winds up joining the galaxy police and becomeing a key tool in destroying a pirate organization... which they do with completely un realistic ease (seriously it takes like 5 episodes.. wtf?)

The only reason i even bothered finished watching the show is because the first episode or two was so funny and i was hopeing for more of the same kinda humor later. the first episodes were hillareous (theres a scene with sena rideing a bike... well i thought it was funny) AHEM..

ANIMATION:
Well the animation wasnt horrible but there was definately room for improvement. In many of the scenes the characters are drawn awkwardly resulting in... well, bad animation. and wtf is with that bandaid on senia's head, its like ingrown into his hair... sooo annoying

SOUND:
It wasnt something horrible enough to make you want to stabb your eardrums out with an ice pick... im not really sure how to correctly portray my negative fealings towards the scores for this show, so ill just say that i didnt like them

STORY:
Senia has bad luck so the gxp decides to use it as a weapon and every girl instantly falls in love with senia... tenchi isnt even in the story till like ep12 and thats pretty much just a cameo.

CHARACTER:
Plenty of cliche characters such as the childhood friend/crush, the little sister, the irresistable (to the women of the show) male lead who is also a sexdrive-less teenager, the comic relife villan, and the im helplessly-in-love-with-the-main-character female lead...

VALUE:

ENJOYMENT: first episode accounts for 80% of the enjoyment i got from this show, the rest of the humor was poop jokes and other jokes of sexual nature. one of the characters at the end of the show even says something like "oh what, this gag again?" after they use the same joke for like the 11th time

I just had to review this after reading some of the other reviews. This series takes place in the original Tenchi Muyou universe, that of the OVA. After having watched anime frequently for a period of 7 years and after a countless number of series I've come to the conclusion that Tenchi Muyo OVA is the best anime series ever made. A series set in the same universe can't be bad, can it?
This series is very funny and I enjoyed it very much. The animation is very good and as for sound, the music could have been better. I miss the simple and straightforward music of Seiko Nagaoka from the OVA series. The voices (japanese) are very good as usual (I NEVER watch dubs).
The characters are nice even though Seina and Kiriko can be somewhat annoying at times. However, it doesn't hurt the series overall. I do like Ryoko though, and I wouldn't mind being a member of GP's fan club for her. Ryoko is hot! She can't compete with the original Ryoko (demon caller) though.
This is a nice series. Watch Tenchi OVA if you haven't seen it and then watch this series.

ERr.. err.. It's funny as hell!!! The jokes about Seina's bad luck really work!

Animation, sound, and everything else is average except the jokes that'll will blast you away with joy. Also since it have the same setting as the tenchi ova, we'll see some of old chars pop out and great us from time to time. It's really great to see more of tenchi in the same original script unlike other lame tenchi (tenchi universe, etc.) where they just change the story around and boost the stupitity. They used a new chars + good old chars to make this series. Even the chars diff, the stuff that happen around them is pretty much almost like tenchi expreriance in the first oav.

Tenchi GXP definately worth even you never watch any tenchi stuff you'll still like this series, or if you're fan of tenchi you'll love tenchi ever more.

Not without a number of problems, I found Tenchi Muyo! GXP to be far more enjoyable than its predecessor which establishes the universe and characters on which GXP is based.

With GXP, Seina Yamada is not at all the indecisive fool that Tenchi is. We know Kiriko is the one who holds his heart. With 26 episodes, we are given a hefty amount, if the same, adventures though the assembly of female characters that make up Seina's harem have charmed me more than Tenchi's.

The bottom line is that while I enjoyed the original Tenchi OVA's a lot, GXP stood out better for me. GXP's ending however was a complete cop-out, which made for nothing the progress of Seina's relationships and mocks the development that I was anticipating. Grrr!!!

I really dont get how people can call this the worst anime theyve ever seen. There were many funny things about this series, the background music was good not to mention the great OP theme and ED theme. Sure the story is a little random, but if you loved the ayeka versus ryoka theme, this shoudl be something to enjoy. each episode provided laughs, some including some dirty humor or just plain silliness. the animation is good, id say the frames are just as good as the orginal tenchi series but with more color and such. there is actually an episode with the appearance of teh orignal tenchi characters theyve thrown in, which actually fit in pretty well. if i had one complaint i would just say that seinas voice is really annoying (japanese or english...), and they could have at least made him look a little cooler, he had a goofy bandaid on his forhead the entire show which i guess is the secret to attracting girls... lol, but yea i loved this series, there is a lot of wackiness, but the story did have serious themes thrown in SOME times which all fit pretty well.

Oh, man, if you look up "crappy" in the dictionary, you'll see a picture from this show. This is the most pointless, worthless, stupidest anime I’ve ever encountered. One who might happen to glance into a random episode would probably mistakenly think this show has a plot. it doesn't. This is all a bunch of mambo gumbo with no point to the story, that makes you believe that something is happening when infact nothing happens. Characters are all boring, with no real personalities (all the girls act the same, you can hardly tell the difference between them aside from the visual appearance),the show has no idea what it supposed to be, if anything it's a lame attempt to get people interested in the 3rd OVA that just recently came out (and by the look of things, the OVA will be crappy as well).Just to let you know how lame the story is, without spoil too much: About 3 or 4 episodes near the end the show decided it wants to be a mecha show. Yes, that's right - mecha! with some sort of lame homage to escaflowne (I'm just guessing, mostly by the music they put in that episode),they try to make you believe that the entire show was all set for that momment with the mecha, although no signs of it were shown in any episodes previous to this. THIS IS THE LAMEST ANIME I'VE EVER ENCOUNTERED, and probably the worst spin-off of tenchi, right after Pretty Sammy OVA. What the hell were the creators thinking when they made this crap? The only reason I kept on watching is because tenchi muyo OVA was one of the first anime I've ever watched, so I figured this show has to come up with something in 26 episodes...IT DIDN'T! STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS!

After looking over other peoples reviews it seems this is an anime that you either love or hate. I for one found this hilarious and fun. I'd wager that the reason that many watchers are so polarized in reviewing this anime is that it is riddled with Japanese style humor. Many of the actions the characters take would be hilarious to a Japanese, but to a Western viewer might seem corny, disgusting, or just pointless. Indeed without knowing certain aspects of the Japanese culture some of the jokes will go completely over your head.

The characters were typical of the tenchi muyo series and in many ways mirrored the tenchi story itself. I.e. goofy shy main character that for some unexplained reason ends up with SEVERAL women in love with him at the same time. However this was less serious plot wise than the tenchi series which set the theme for this 'reality'. The embarassing situations were usually the funniest and many times I had a good belly laugh from the events that occured.

Now.....for the bad. This anime is supposed to take place within the 'tenchi reality' which is all fine and good. However, the story takes place well after all the events around tenchi OVA have been resolved. What's wrong with that? The OVA has yet to be resolved!!!! Episode 18 isn't scheduled for release until December 04'. This means that while watching GXP you get a bit lost and shocked in finding out the current relationships. For instance Tenchi's father apparently married Reia just to point out one instance. This also means that by watching GXP some of the untold events of the Tenchi OVA series get somewhat spoiled for you. Basically if you are watching Tenchi OVA and then you watch GXP you feel like you've missed the entire middle of the story. However this is just a minor annoyance since the GXP characters mingle very little with the OVA main characters throughout the series. But form a critical point of view this really seems like a timing blunder on the part of those who own the Tenchi series.

So to sum up. If you liked Tenchi you'll most likely enjoy this. If you see a joke you don't understand it's because you're a stupid gaijin or something along those lines. Watch it, laugh, enjoy, etc etc.

One final warning. You probably won't be able to find this on fansubs anymore since it's licensed, but if you do DON'T download it. I'm not saying not to for ethical reasons. I'm saying don't because it was HORRIBLY translated. Sometimes the sentence structure was completely destroyed with such phrases like "leave it to me" being turned into "Hang it to me". Other times they'd mess up names by calling Ryoko 'Kyoko' and mentally throwing you off. By far the most annoying was when the translators would not even get the gender right. Referring to a female character and calling her 'he'. Just buy it on DVD and save yourself the hassle.

I have to say, that out of all of the anime that I've seen in my life, this is the worst one yet. Someone in my anime club picked up the entire season and unfortunately, it got onto our viewing table. I try to leave whenever this is playing, but sometimes they sandwich an episode between some other two series.

I am *shocked* this anime has made it around the "8" mark !! OMG - this is a terribly **boring** series, and not to mention extreamly stupid.

Yeah - Yeah - Yeah...I know..Its "anime" and you shouldn't take it seriously. But does it really sound funny and amusing to watch the main character be such a klutz over and over ??? Not to me.

Just another one of those Tenchi Muyo spin off's (why that original OVA even is worthy of a spin off is beyond me) with the usual harem plot. Only this one is the *pits*. The characters are just plain AWFUL in this - especially the part cat/part human one's.

Very very stupid...and boring at that. The plot is just about nill. After the first 8 episdoes - I just couldn't take anymore. My first 3 volumes are up for sale.

Tenchi GXP is loosley based on the Tenchi Muyo series/OVA's. It concerns tenchi's nephew, Seina. He's 1)cursed with INCREDIBLY bad luck, 2)recruited by a Interstellar police force, and 3)surrounded by women who somehow have the hots for him. This details his misadventures in the police force, and has some of the tenchi muyo characters showing up. Animation is decent-good, the story is a real mess (but fun to watch, full of cliches). The sound& OP/ED is excellent, and overall it's quite fun to watch. I'd recommend this to anyone who liked Tenchi Muyo.

A realy good anime, it has an enormous amopunt of humor in it and you will laught, the animation isnt great, but its acceptable. Also the voices are nice but you tend to ignore the music. THe way that the story is built is realy nice in a way, good twists and no (as far as i have seen) plotholes. I realy enjoyed watching it.

This is just like the original Tenchi cast only with new characters. Amane = Ryouko, Kiriko = Ayeka, Seina = Tenchi. But that's okay, this show was hilarious. And it throws some serious surprises at you that you'd never see coming. It doesn't show the original Tenchi cast in any but 2 episodes I think, but don't let that stop you from watching Tenchi GXP. It's really a good series.

A funny and a bit ecchi spinoff of the original Tenchi Muyo OVAs. The same universe, took one year after the (yet no available) 3. OVA.
It starts as the OVAs, seem like a bunch of episodes without any real plot, but in the end, turns out that everything had it's own place.
The real value of the series is the background of the Tenchi universe, only shown in the True Tenchi Novels before. Kamiki Seto or Maguma Airi are great characters, and we can see what is the universe like outside Tenchi's closest family.

Kajishima Masaki, the co-creator of the Tenchi OAVs, teams up with "Nabeshin" of Excel Saga to produce a hilarious and charming romp through the Tenchi universe, but this time with a new set of characters. Probably around the level of Tenchi Universe in overall value and watchability, and a treat for fans of the earlier Tenchi material.

Not as good as the original Tenchi Muyo! OVAs, but it DOES live up to the Tenchi Muyo! name.

I am VERY disappointed and overly appalled to hear that FUNimantion NOT Poineer bought the license to distribute Tenchi GXP in the US. FUNimation BETTER hire/keep the same English voice actors or SO HELP ME!!!

The way I see it, FUNimation just wants to jump on the Tenchi bandwaggon. First they steal DBZ from Poineer and now Tenchi.

I apologies, I'm just venting my frustration. Anyways, on to my review.

RETRACTION: I am very pleased that FUNimation has decided to use voice actors that we all know well. For example, Kiriko and Amane. The two voice actresses for these two did Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop and Naru Narusegawa from Love Hina respectively. Also, for all who loved Ah! My Goddess The Movie, the english voice actor who did Keiichi Morisato is voices Seina Yamada, the main character in GXP.

Well, I've seen all 26 episodes of this show, and I can assure you that even though all the Tenchi characters are not present, you should fully enjoy this show, especially if you like delving into the physics and liniage of the Tenchi OVA universe.

The show takes place in the original Tenchi universe, which means that it is not a spinoff, it is not a "fake" story, it's the real deal, co-written by Masaki Kajishima and Yousuke Kuroda. The show features very nice smooth digital animation, beautiful CG for the spaceships, great character designs (Similar to those seen in "Dual: Parallel Trouble Adventure"), and some really slick storyline ideas.

I'd like to correct some things here. First of all, the main character's name is Seina, not Seinan. Some people in the show refer to him as "Sainan" because of his bad luck, which is legendary. Because of this luck, his life has never gone the way he has wanted it to... but that's all about to change.

In a single day, he encounters Amane Kaunaq, who gives him a pamphlet. Later on, due to some bumblings of his family, he finds himself drafted into the Galaxy Police and attending the GP academy, under the watch of Airi Magama, who is Tenchi's grandmother.

His crush from Earth, Kiriko Masaki, is also in the Galaxy Police, and ends up becoming protective of Seina as he journey's forth into space. Also keeping an eye on this boy are Seto Kamiki, known as Jurai's Devil Princess, and Ryouko Balta, a very unconventional space pirate whose namesake is the Ryouko we all know and love.

While at the GP academy, Seina makes friends with two other students, Kenneth Sabaru and Roger Gawalder. They share some misadventures on campus, and eventually go their seperate ways went sent into space for their on-site training.

After an incident in episode 10, Seina makes his worst enemy ever, Tarant Shank - An infamous space pirate who is feared throughout the galaxy as a ruthless killer and an unforgiving foe.

Through all of this excitement, Seina's luck seems to be turning around somehow, as he manages to slip through incident after incident unscathed. He has an ability to attract pirates, which could be seen as bad luck, but also has the ability to somehow manage to defeat them every time, be it through his allies or through his own courage.

Eventually, he is even given an amazing ship, the Kamidake-2, which was created by THE Washu Hakubi. The ship even comes complete with its very own Cabbit, which the crew (Consisting of Seina, Kiriko, Amane, and Ryouko Balta) name Fuku.

From this point on, it's high sailing in space as they move from one adventure to the next, battling space pirates, meeting strange people, and generally having a great time.

I don't want to spoil any more for those whohave not seen this show, but let me just say that it is incredible, and is definitely worth a watch, especially if you're a fan of Tenchi Muyo.

First when I heard this wasn't around the original cast, I thought it would be terrible. But consider a different series altogether! The comedy a bit like Excel Saga(for good reason). Since only 9 episodes have been fansubbed, the story has a bit more to go. Otherwise, it rates very favorably compared to the other new animes coming out.

So far I've seen the first nine episodes of Tenchi GXP and I'm pleasantly surprised. I was a bit sceptical at first, hearing that the original Tenchi crew wouldn't be present, but it turned out A-Okay.

There are all sorts of references to Tenchi and crew in the show and according to Windy211's review we'll be privy to seeing them later on.

The characters are great, animation high quality (with lot's of fan service! If only they had done that with Ayeka..), and it's hillariously funny. This is something any Tenchi fan should see.

Wow, When I read about this on the AIC homepage, I was both frightened and anxious. I grew up with the Tenchi OAVs and all additions to the franchise was fine with me(spare Tenchi in Tokyo) This anime turned out to live up to and past my expectations. Same zany antics and love triangles as featured in the prior installments, and though I was slightly bummed to not see Tenchi and co. We are visited later in the series by the majority of the main characters from Tenchi Universe. This is a great return to an old friend.
