| Bubblegum Crash is a 3 45 minute episode long OVA released in 1991, following the storyline of the 1987 Bubblegum Crisis.
Although the storyline can be questionable on occasions, Bubblegum Crash contains several highly impressive features.
Bubblegum Crash features highly detailed scenes and very impressive character designs for an anime released in 1991. One part of the intro is computer generated, which only improves the quality of the graphics and animation in Bubblegum Crash. Some scenes are reused, but they are minimal. Despite being occasionally uninteresting, the action sequences are well animated and mostly exciting to watch. Overall, Bubblegum Crash is excellent to watch.
Each episode of Bubblegum Crash features a separate ending theme, and each theme is performed to an excellent degree. The voice acting in Bubblegum Crash is carried out by mostly high profile voice actors and actresses who also featured in Bubblegum Crisis, making the OVA sound brilliant.
The most disappointing part of Bubblegum Crash is its storyline. It follows on from where Bubblegum Crisis left off, and follows an exceedingly linear storyline containing no twists of any form. There are also a number of contradicting events, damaging the enjoyment of the battle sequences and the development of the storyline. In spite of those disappointments, the three episodes of the OVA build on one another resulting in a well constructed conclusion in the end.
In addition to the excellent cast from Bubblegum Crisis, a few new characters are introduced in Bubblegum Crash. Although the appearances of the new characters are limited to one episode, they have fascinating personalities and bring some humour to the storyline. Character development is greatly limited by the three-episode length of the OVA. Although the ending hints of some development, its presence during the OVA is unclear.
Bubblegum Crash is a high quality sequel to Bubblegum Crisis. Its graphics, animation, and soundtrack are very impressive, despite the occasionally disappointing storyline. Although not really a must watch, Bubblegum Crash would be mostly enjoyed by fans of Bubblegum Crisis. This short 3 episode OVA will not, however, change the minds of viewers who disliked Bubblegum Crisis.

| For all those who have seen BGC...
This "sequel" to BGC doesn't live up to the original series. A lot of infighing in the studios and people who left the production from the orginal OVA i think contributed to the loss of connectivity.
But this extention does do a lot ot stay in line with the original, but it feels as if they decided to twerk it up a bit, to give them more room to manuver with the story and characters. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to fit. Priss's voice actor change but i don't notice it that much after the 1st ep. And there's the 1st Ep itself. It doesn't do a good job of connecting with the original 8 OVA. Priss is going to sign with a big record company, which seems really backward to her underground rock look. Linna goes wallstreet and works in stocks now instead of her aerobics club. And Sylia just disappears then comes back. nene's in the same place and is the only person who seems to stay true to her previous character. Linna and Priss don't even seem to mind that the group is broken up even though there seems to a certain bond that had formed in the orginal OVA.
But there are explanations later that help give these reactions credit and ep 2 returns everyone to their original circumstances, Priss quits the record deal and Linna will be fired but quits before. This makes as if everything was just a fling but its still awkward. Also, there is an opening sequence that applies for all the 3 OVAs. and it's boring. The hardsuits changed and are like supercharged. I kind of liked the basic suits honestly, but it doesn't not fit, but it's too obvious since it's a new series of OVAs. There's also the strong emphasis on commerical, labor boomers that never really existed before. We are introduced to cybords and Genom doesn't seem to be existant. Again, it isn't entirely out of the question what they did to the sequal butsomething's a little off.
In my frank opinion, i dislike where they decided to take the series with this addition. I would've rather they didn't make these three extra OVAs.
The action is also a little weaker i think.
Basic deal: If you liked BGC, then Crash is somewhat worth watching. It gives you some more stuff to enjoy, but doesn't really compare to the original OVA. Watch at your own risk. It may make you hate Bubblegum.

| I'm a big fan of the Bubblegum Crisis franchise. The original OVA is one of the best pieces of anime to come out of the 1980's and set the groundwork for modern cyberpunk. The latter TV remake was just as good, if not better in some areas regardless how you felt about their changes from the OVA.
There there is Bubblegum Crash, the sequel to the original ova, and the supposed conclusion to the original story. The animation and sound stay true to the original which is much apreciated as the OVA had outstanding animation and one of the best 80's rock soundtracks that I've ever come across. When you get into the first episode you'll notice, however, that Priss' seiyuu was changed for the worst. Her new voice is dry, scratchy, and doesnt bring her character across like you'd expect. The story itself is pretty bad; rushed, pointless, and weak comes to mind. Nothing happens, and for a conclusion, that's the absolute worst way to end something off.
Crash isnt a bad series but in all honesty it doesnt hold water to the first ova. This is for true BGC fans only, and even those people are going to be a little dissapointed with this.

| For true fans of the original Bubblegum Crisis, these 3 episodes will seem like a short extention to the series. Unfortunately they don't really do anything spectacular. The animation is quite good considering when it was made, and I can dig the 80s music. The characters haven't changed much (which is a good thing). If you haven't seen this yet and are a fan of the series, you don't really need to feel pressured to watch it because it isn't that important, but if you're dying for a few more episodes, pick it up.

| First of all, I haven't seen the original Bubblegum Crisis series, so I can't say how this all ties in. However, as a stand alone (complex... funny) story, it's okay, except there's reference to a major character I suppose must be from the first BC story, meaning I must be missing something pretty big.
Anyways, the art is certainly not fantastic, but what's really a disappointment was the music. Being part of a series that prides itself on excellent music... the music is crap. Really bad, considering the usual quality.
Also, the OVAs are 45 minutes each... a little long for the story, so points off Value because I don't think I could stand to sit through it again, decent or not.

| Bubblegum Crisis had no ending, so I decide to get Bubblegum Crash since it's the sequel to BGC. You'll be disappointed if your expecting it to be good. And since the plot from the last BGC wasn't that great, this one just fell apart. It took most of the episodes just to get them together. And then the music is the same from the last series(you think they would get new music, but they didn't). The animation is much better from the last series though(probably the only good thing about this OVA). Value to this series is below average, the only reason you would watch it would be to see the sequel.

| An atrocity to the Bubblegum Crisis series. After watching this, most fans try to pretend that the events in this series occurs in some strange alternate universe and thus, never really happened. Something akin to Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, if you're a big enough nerd to get that reference. Or maybe the disemboweling of the Foundation series after Asimov's death.
In essence, all the good parts of the original have been carefully excised out, leaving only an excruciating exercise in necromancy, where the mangled corpse of the source material lurches around feebly for the three episodes of the OVA. It essentially rewrites the mythos, and does it incredibly badly. Worse, the action sequences, easily one of the best parts of BGC, are neutered. Instead of the amazing classic battle sequences of the original, there's a horribly stilted battle sequence consisting of each Knight Saber attacking in turn, and the Boomers responding in kind. It's like they're caught up in some kind of giant archaic turn-based RPG. Hell, even the music sucks.
You have been warned.
