| Locke the Superman movie was for me, and for many others, one main reason I liked Japanese animation 20 years ago.A time where no age ratings were available in videocassetes and any child could rent titles like Locke.
Since I learned that there is a very good and relatively unknown manga of Locke I hesitate to watch any other movies or OVAs until I read some manga volumes.
Because the story of the manga is one of its strongpoints and it would be impossible to be explained in one OVA.
So I'll ignore this and focus just on the enjoyment. I have to say I liked the movie more and this OVA doesnt reach the movie's quality, though it is decent. But I wouldnt rewatch this.
This time Locke with other 4 people (3 in fact) tries to find and eliminate one ESP called Tsar but it seems someone messed with their memories. While at the same time Project Emperor is ready to take place.
Confusing realy if you havent read the manga. Just some nice ESP battles and various flashbacks make this interesting, but not so if you've seen similar sci-fi OVAs.
Some nice orchestration during battles also kept the interest.
Problem was with the characters. Who is who, except Locke and what is their background cant be revealed and this makes the OVA unappealing.
This is mainly for those who've read the manga. It doesnt suffice to cover the rest of the story for the viewers outside Japan.
There are other OVAs of Locke but I'll overlook them. Too bad the manga remains untranslated and completely unknown. Probably with so many publishers of Locke a confusion with copyright ensued.
Not recommended. Just watch it out of nostalgia. I wouldnt want to be introduced to anime with the more recent titles anyway.
