Hehe this is the one anime series that i find the english dub better and funnier then the japanese sub. Its a pretty cool anime, its classified as a horror anime due to some "scary" scenes, but its definitely an anime to laugh your ass off too. The ghosts within this series are well developed and seem as if they would be real ghosts. Its not really an all that scary series. It might cause you jump a few times maybe depending on who you are. But it is definitely a hilarious series especially if you watch the english dub.

Gakkou NO Kaidan is meaning Ghost At School but the reason why Hajime,Reo,Kei-ichiro,Momoko and satsuki are putting the ghosts to spiritual sleep is because they are trying to make amanojaku go away beacuse he is in the body of kaya but sometimes i think he like being withhuman more then ghosts i think there is a reason why he like humans... hmmm..... bahahaha but i surely love theanimation, art even the dialog the presentation and all the others

I have watched anime with a spiritual tone fom Yu Yu Hakusho, Jigoku Sensei Nube to this. This is the only anime I watched with a 90 percent horrific tone to it. What's really amazing is that the monsters are not just limited to just Japanese mythology, but the monsters are created beyond the unseen reality and imagination of the author/s. In addition to the beasts, ghouls and goblins, the heroes are not teenagers or adults but regular elementary school kids. Somewhat they were made to subdue fears of the spiritual world in their earlier stages. Great concept!

This is one really cool anime. It's an awesome horror show and yet it can make you laugh your head of at times. The animation is really good and the plots were great. The characters are absolutely cool and some of the demons and ghosts really look pretty scary and are very very well done. Overall I'd say its a show you just have to watch.

A horror anime that manages to be a childrens show, yet be scary and not cheesy at the same time. Sugoi!

Animation: The animation for this anime was top notch for a 2000 anime. It even used some computer cgs to portray dark swooping corridors and creepy lighting effects. Every scene there was something moving, (cough cough Lain) and running animation was excellent. The monsters were animated fluidly.

Sound: Creak! AAARRGHHH!!! Whoosh! Each sound was well done and crisp to the year. Footsteps were ominous enough, heartbeats heard, and the seiyuus did an excellent job. The cat, Kaya, had the most unique voice. Quite husky, yet feminine at the same time, it really fits the part of a demon turned good.

Story: Weak point for this anime. Each episode was a standalone ep, so each had a beginning and an end. The only plot device connecting the 20 episodes together was Satsuki`s mom and the old school buiding. Ayanojiku (the demon) also played a part in most of the episodes. Episode 12 was brilliant, for they could even add drama and emotions to a horror anime. Even made me cry...

Character: The five main characters, Satsuki, Keichiro, Momoko, Leo and Hajime round out an excellent cast for a school horror story. Each has its own quirks and attitudes. Momoko the bishoujo was the most mysterious of them all, as she acts as a wayperson for communicating with the dead. Satsuki is a genki girl, while Hajime is the usual guy next door with an unlikely crush on the main character. Keichiro is the little bro to Satsuki, and Leo is Hajime`s nerdy gay buddy.

Value: I watched all 20 episodes in mandarin chinese subs off a vcd, and I have to say the purchase was well worth it for the 10 vcds. Rewatchablilty value is high, as you go back to see which monster or plot point missed in the first watch.

Enjoyment: Overall, I really enjoyed Gakkou no Kaiden. I first saw it in Taiwan Animax, and I was impressed by its fluid execution of school horrors and its characterization. Too bad this anime isn`t fansubbed, as it was a sleeper hit for the year 2000.

it's the kind of naime who bring a new fresh into the anime world, not only it's original but it's also good. If you like ghost story (and this anime is inspired of true ghost school story) this anime is for you. it even succeed to give you somes creeps.
